What happened? I was watching the live scoring, willing Sato on, next thing I know, he's nowhere.

Dario pinched Sato to the white line and Sato wrecked on the final lap.

Great race, was hoping for a driver that hadn't won the 500 to win. Oh well, on to Detroit.

Dario wins yet another one. It was a good race, but damn, Dario had to be his usual dirty-piece-of-crap self to win it.

Dumb move by Sato no matter what. Dario would have gotten around him at the exit of 4 if he had made the pass in 1.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
That was mostly Sato's fault there. He wasn't alongside at all heading into the corner. It was a total banzai move and I can't blame him. Had be backed off he wouldn't have been able to run him down by turn 3 again. Awesome job by Dario to give him room and not get taken out by him

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
All Dario had to do was block Sato all the way to the wall. We all know IndyCar officials won't call the two red cars for blocking.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
What I could see from the cameras (which were all shitty angles btw) was that Dario gave Sato room with his banzai move heading into turn one, but pinched him down as they were in the turn. Overall I'd say it was a racing deal.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
Sato really should've had that one in the bag if not for Dario being silly.
Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
Even if Dario gave him more room, I don't think Sato could have made it stick. He went in way too hot, probably would have slid out of the groove on his ownBWardboy88 wrote:Sato really should've had that one in the bag if not for Dario being silly.

Completely agreed. Sato went in way too hot and way over his head with that move. He saw a win, went for it, and overdrove the car....much like Hildebrand did last year. Can't put it all on Dario...well, I guess you can if you want to be part of the hivemind.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
Dario wasn't being dirty. He was leading the biggest race in the world and defended his position on the last lap. Congrats to him. He ran a great race after falling back early.
Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
Looking back at it, it was just hard racing. Dario tried to defend his win, while Sato went for a hole that wasn't there.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
There seems to be more butthurt here than a Goatse convention. As Ben just said, hard racing, two people going to same real estate.
Do people really think the leader will give someone one room on the last lap of the INDYF***ING500.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
Okay. After clearing my mind up a bit, competition-wise, the race was awesome, with drivers passing each other back and forth. Restarts were interesting and drivers did a great job of keeping their cars off the walls while spinning out. I saw a replay of it and I saw that Dario gave Sato SOME room. I would agree that Sato was a bit too agressive for going into that first turn but as Ayrton Senna would say: "If you don't go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a race car driver." Sato saw a gap that existed and tried to take advantage of it.
And this was happened on the last lap. Even with the GWC rule applied, it wouldn't have been done anyway.

Re: 96th Indianapolis 500
What an awesome race. This is my second favorite 500 I've been to. (2006 will always be first) Dario is one of my least favorite drivers, but he drove a Hell of a race. The racing was really competitive and exciting this year. I was furious when Ed (favorite driver, fellow Butler Bulldog here) wrecked, but it at least showed that his team can still put together good cars for ovals. Sato should've waited longer for his move, but it took guts to do so I give the guy credit.
Overall, one of my favorite days ever at the IMS. (even though it was really hot. )

And we don't even know how they got there. Up until the last 20 laps or so, the ABC coverage was great.
