Ford 400 - Sprint Cup Series

Three points. Two drivers. One championship.

The championship has come down to 2 contenders, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart. The points are so tight, only 1 or 2 positions could be the difference of being champion or being runner-up. If this goes to a tiebreaker, Tony Stewart would be champion. Who will be the one that puts Jimmie Johnson's 5 year reign to an end? We will see this Sunday!

I don't like Carl nor Stewart, because they have done some stupid things, but I'd rather Stewart than Edwards because at least Stewart didn't flat out make someone hit the wall while upside down on purpose.

I don't really care which one wins it. Although I would like Edwards over Stewart 'cause it would be a first time champion.

What I'm more interested in is can Kasey do what Carl did last year and go back to back.

Jimmie will engage in Hax and win the title!

Honestly, I'd rather see Stewart win. Both drivers are a-holes, but Edwards is the bigger one.

I want Stewart to win. But have a feeling Edwards will come out the victor.

Kahne can win the championship if he finished 25 points or more ahead of Carl, and 23 ahead of Tony.

I calculated, and if Kahne was in the chase, he would be -25 points from Edwards, and -22 from Stewart, being third in points.

Kahne only has to tie Edwards, but has to beat Stewart, due to tiebreakers.

Of course, Kahne can't actually win the championship.

BTW, I forgot to point something out.

Edwards has only one victory on the year. The same as Kenseth in '03, ironically. So if he wins he'll stick it to NASCAR beyond belief because they've been all ZOMG CONSISTENTCY IZ CRAP NAO U ALL HAZ TO WIN ALOT WINNIN IZ ALL THAT MATTERZ WIN WIN WIN LOLOLOLOLMONEYLOLOLSPORTZLOLOLOL and shoving that crap mindset down the throats of literally everyone connected to the sport since maybe 2007. I don't necessarily care who wins. Edwards might still be an ass in my books, but he's a good driver, and Stewart is also a bit of an ass, but he's also a good driver. So it's a toss-up.

Lally out of #71 ride; Bliss in Andy Lally has parted company with the TRG Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team, with just one race remaining in the 2012 season. Lally was unavailable for comment today, but team owner Kevin Buckler confirmed the move, saying that veteran Mike Bliss will be in the #71 Ford this weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway. "Mikes a great qualifier, and we need to have a good run this weekend," said Buckler. "I'm not sure right now whether we will be able to run the entire race, but we're about 3/4 of the way there (on sponsorship)." Buckler declined to speak specifically on reasons for the driver change, saying, "Let's jut say we're having some internal issues with who's driving the car this weekend, and leave it at that. We're working around some issues with Andy, but that's really all I want to say about it."
Lally said via Twitter this morning, "Had a hard decision to make this morning, but there are just some things you need to do on principle. I'll keep you updated on things to come."
Lally is currently 33rd in Sprint Cup Series championship points after failing to qualify last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. He has run unopposed for 2011 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year honors, and will secure that title despite his apparent dismissal. The #71 TRG Motorsports Ford recently dropped out of the Top-35 in owners points, and trails the #38 Front Row Motorsports team by 28 points in the battle for the final guaranteed starting spot in the first five races of next season.(Sirius Speedway)(11-16-2011)

One more thing to consider is that if Tony Stewart wins the title, it will be the first time in 19 YEARS that an owner-driver has won the title. Last person to do that was Alan Kulwicki all the way back in 1992.

Also, in 2003 and in 2011, the Pepsi 400/Coke Zero 400 was won by a Roush driver, both whom got their first winz!!1!1!11!!!

I really don't like either but I'm cheering for Stewart due to the fact he actually deserves the championship based on his Chase run with an exception of Dover.

Which is why Stewart specifically said that even if he did win the Cup it wouldn't be near equal to what the Underbird did.

Tony wins the tiebreaker by winning half the chase races, if you looked at it during the "Regular Season" it would look like he wouldn't of stood a chance.

Awesome race, great fight for the champion in the end. Hoping this starts a trend of Jimmie not winning it all, Since that was the most memorable fight since 2004 in Cup. 2011 one of the better season in the past couple years, Hope 2012 will bring more fun.

Stewart really deserved it. It pains me to admit it as an Edwards fan, but Tony ran a great race.

There's the old point system, the Chase, and the new point system. But the old point system and the Chase from 2005 can be considered 1 system, so I guess it's however you look at it.

Great race! My vote for best race of the season. That was exciting. I was rooting for Tony, but that was awesome! Loved it.

Tony Stewart won the same amount of races this year than he did when he won the 2005 championship. Difference? One of them was in the chase in '05. All of them were in the chase this year.

First tie EVER in points for the championship.

Yeah, but in 2005, he was the dominant driver from early Summer on. I don't think he lost the point lead once after he got it after winning Daytona in July.

Well as much as I wanted Edwards to win, I happy Smoke won it. Why? He EARNED it. He had to win the race and he did just that.

I'm also happy because Jimmie finished 6th in the final standings his first EVER finish outside the top 5 in points.

And as far as the old points system stuff, here is my response and I think it's fitting.
