Post by SpeedDemon37 Tue Mar 07, 2017 3:36 pm

The first ARCA race has already taken place, so I suppose that I can't post that anymore.

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Conor Daly (1), Mikhail Aleshin (1)
Most wins in a season: Josef Newgarden (3) (a bit bold perhaps, considering that his competition includes Dixon, Pagenaud, Power, etc.)
Upset of the year: Takuma Sato wins the pole for the 101st Indianapolis 500
Disappointments: Hildebrand doesn't achieve his first win despite performing very well throughout the season
Best race of 2017: Indianapolis 500 (winner: Charlie Kimball)
Worst race of 2017: GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma (winner: Scott Dixon)
Retirees at season end: (none)
Driver of the year: Hélio Castroneves, ending the winless streak with two victories and his elusive first championship; Honarable Mention goes to Ryan Hunter-Reay (who wins twice and finishes runner-up at Indianapolis)
Reject of the year: (I'm not really sure)
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Jones is most likely, but I'm going to predict that nobody will
Champion: Hélio Castroneves
Runner-up: Josef Newgarden

Most wins in a season: Josef Newgarden (Correct. 4 wins for Josef.)
Upset of the year: Coyne wins the Indy 500. (Wrong. They had the speed to do so all month though whether it be the 18 car or Jones but just came up short)
Disappointments: Marco Andretti (Wrong. I felt like Kannan was the worst driver this year and he was driving for an even better team)
Best race of 2017: Road America (Wrong. Indy 500 is almost like the safe best so i didn't see why i didn't go with that)
Worst race of 2017: Long Beach (Wrong.. Same as best race but substitute Mid-Ohio in)
Retirees at season end: Kannan, Castroneves (Correct and Wrong. Castroneves appears to be done but Kanann is staying around)
Driver of the year: Josef Newgarden (Correct. Newgarden had huge expectations and succeeded in flying colors
Reject of the year: Marco Andretti (Wrong. Again i feel Kannan just imploded 1998 style this year)
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Luis Dorrbecker if that test turns into a deal (If not, then Chilton) Wrong. Dorrbecker is a name i'll forgot in 6 months and Chilton despite teasing it saved his exit for the end of the year )
Champion: Josef Newgarden (Correct. YES FOR ONCE MY HEART PICK WAS THE RIGHT ONE!
Runner-up: Scott Dixon (Wrong. One off but i feel like Dixie left a lot of points on the table this year.

2017 Motorsports Predictions Empty Re: 2017 Motorsports Predictions

Post by SpeedDemon37 Thu Sep 28, 2017 4:36 pm

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Conor Daly (1), Mikhail Aleshin (1)
There were no first-time winners, surprisingly, despite Hildebrand, Jones, Chilton, Alonso, and even Vautier having had good chances.

Most wins in a season: Josef Newgarden (3) (a bit bold perhaps, considering that his competition includes Dixon, Pagenaud, Power, etc.)
I underestimated Newgarden here; he managed to win four races!

Upset of the year: Takuma Sato wins the pole for the 101st Indianapolis 500
Not as much of an upset as a surprise, but Fernando Alonso and McLaren appearing at Inianapolis was just about that last thing that anyone who follows the world of motorsport could have possibly predicted.

Disappointments: Hildebrand doesn't achieve his first win despite performing very well throughout the season
Overall, it didn't turn out to be a very good season for JR, unfortunately. Although he performed spectacularly on the short ovals. In addition, I would consider Mikhail Aleshin's release from SPH to be a major disappointment, as well.

Best race of 2017: Indianapolis 500 (winner: Charlie Kimball)
Worst race of 2017: GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma (winner: Scott Dixon)
The 500 continues to outdo itself every year, it seems! Although it was Takuma Sato who earned a rightful victory. Pocono Raceway also produced a fantastic race. I think that the worst event of the year was the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway (despite the intense racing, a ridiculous frequency of crashes plus blistering tires and an impenetrable Team Penske wall at the front turned the race into a complete debacle).

Retirees at season end: (none)
At this point, it's still not known as to whether anyone will officially retire (even Hélio, as he will at least be racing at Indianapolis next year).

Driver of the year: Hélio Castroneves, ending the winless streak with two victories and his elusive first championship; Honorable Mention goes to Ryan Hunter-Reay (who wins twice and finishes runner-up at Indianapolis)
After winning four races (two of which by making super-bold passes on his teammates) and the championship in his first year driving for Team Penske, I think that Josef Newgarden definitely deserves this award; he's taken to the team like a duck to water. I'd give honorable mentions to Dixon and Jones, as well. Castroneves indeed ended his 53-race winless streak with a victory at Iowa Speedway, but he wasn't quite able to win the title (Hunter-Reay also failed to find victory lane again after experiencing another Murphy's Law season).

Reject of the year: (I'm not really sure)
Personally, I would say Jay Howard for his poor driving in the 500 and his foolish comments about Hunter-Reay. I'm not ready to give the "award" to Kanaan; in spite of the fact that the second half of his season was largely embarrassing, he still managed to finish tenth in the standings.

Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Jones is most likely, but I'm going to predict that nobody will
Unfortunately, Mikhail Aleshin was released by SPH after Toronto. Jones has proved himself to be an excellent driver choice by Dale Coyne.

Champion: Hélio Castroneves
Runner-up: Josef Newgarden
Newgarden becomes a first-time champion, and Simon Pagenaud is runner-up. Castroneves ranks fourth behind Scott Dixon.
