Well at least he was competitive here and there.
Most wins in a season: Helio Castroneves (4)
Well at least I had the right team, just the wrong driver.
Upset of the year: Takuma Sato wins the Indy 500
I'm making this prediction again next year. I called the race of the upset right though. Razz
Disappointments: Sebastien Bourdais is nothing like last season.
And yet he still won a race.
Best race of 2016: Indy 500
Anyone disagree?!?
Worst race of 2016: Texas

Retirees at season end: None come to mind
Haven't heard anything
Driver of the year: Graham Rahal puts in another stunning performance
Top 5 in the points, but I'd give it to Pagenaud
Reject of the year: Marco Andretti
How about Andretti Autosport as a whole? It's pretty sad when the team they support has a win, but they don't.
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: None come to mind
Coyne's 19 car was kind of a musical chair, so can we really count that?
Champion: Helio Castroneves
Right team, wrong driver
Runner-up: Scott Dixon

Re: 2016 Motorsports Predictions

Post by SpeedDemon37 on Sun Sep 25, 2016 10:00 pm

Verizon IndyCar Series

First-time winners: Gabby Chaves
Alexander Rossi
Most wins in a season: Hélio Castroneves
Simon Pagenaud (5); zero wins AGAIN for Hélio, and he still finished 3rd in the standings.
Upset of the year: Marco Andretti wins the Indianapolis 500
Alexander Rossi wins the Indianapolis 500 (in what was a much, much bigger upset); Marco had an off-year at Indy (and an off-year, in general).
Disappointments: Max Chilton unfortunately does not adapt to IndyCar as quickly as hoped
A great race at Phoenix, but finished 19th in the standings; unfortunately I'd consider this prediction to have been correct.
Best race of 2016: 100th Indianapolis 500
To me, it most certainly was; the race more than lived up to all of its anticipation! Although the Firestone 600 came very close.
Worst race of 2016: Firestone 600 (Texas Motor Speedway)
GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma; could not have possibly been more wrong in guessing Texas; the race was good, but the final quarter of the race through the finish was absolutely incredible!
Retirees at season end: N/A
As far as I'm aware, no drivers are planning to retire.
Driver of the year: James Hinchcliffe, returning to the driver’s seat and winning multiple races
Josef Newgarden; Pagenaud gets an honorable mention for his well-deserved championship, but through displaying so much grit, maturity, and speed, Newgarden may have earned himself a chance to drive for some the best teams in the series come 2017; zero wins for Hinch, unfortunately, and a 13th-place points rank, but he did score three podiums and earned the pole position for the 500.
Reject of the year: N/A
Not quite sure, to be honest.
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Conor Daly
Luca Filippi (following Alabama); Daly was able to stay, and proved that he has a tremendous amount of both maturity and potential.
Champion: Graham Rahal
Simon Pagenaud; Rahal ranked 5th (1 win) after another great season, but was outperformed by Pagenaud, Power, Castroneves, and Newgarden.
Runner-up: Ryan Hunter-Reay
Will Power; Hunter-Reay ranked 12th (0 wins) after unfortunately experiencing a total Murphy's Law season.

Re: 2016 Motorsports Predictions

Post by Alta on Fri Nov 18, 2016 10:17 pm

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series:

First-time winners: Ryan Blaney (Wrong. Blaney was close a couple times but just couldn't close the deal)
Most wins in a season: Dale Earnhardt Jr (Wrong. Concussion took him out of the 2nd half and his season before that was kinda middle of the road)
Upset of the year: Blaney gets a win (See first-time winners)
Disappointments: The Low Downforce Package, Tony Stewart (I'm going to make an argument for yes on both of these. Even though the 1st half was good, the 2nd half got to 2015 levels on just flat out boring races. Tony Stewart despite making the chase will still the guy who was down in the 30s for most the year.
Best race of 2016: Darlington (Wrong. Pocono where Buescher won seems to be the only race that's standing out to me)
Worst race of 2016: Texas/A Chase Race (Correct. Texas Chase race was terrible)
Retirees at season end: Tuny (Correct. I think it had been already announced by then)
Driver of the year: Dale Earnhardt Jr (Wrong. There's more an argument for his sub driver being DOTY then Junior)
Reject of the year: Brian Scott (Correct. Scott was a weapon at point this year)
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Michael Annett (Wrong. Annett is more than likely gone but it was decided at the end of the year_
Champion: Martin Truex Jr (Wrong. He was the best car all year but got screwed by the format)
Runner-up: Kevin Harvick (Wrong. Surprisingly didn't do well in the elim. race)

NASCAR Xfinity Series:

First-time winners: Daniel Suarez, Darrell Wallace (1/2. Suarez notched 3 wins this year, Bubba contended at Mid-Ohio but that was it
Most wins in a season: Erik Jones (Correct on the Regular side. Jones notched 4 wins this year and looked pretty good)
Upset of the year: Road Ringer wins a race (Correct. Justin Marks won Mid-Ohio, and if you want to go off his best track McDowell's counts for this)
Disappointments: Elliott Sadler (It's tradition at this point) (Incorrect. Dude almost won the title
Best race of 2016: Road America (Wrong. Mid-Ohio took it this year)
Worst race of 2016: Texas (Sure)
Retirees at season end: Elliott Sadler (Wrong. Probably saved Sadler for another couple years)
Driver of the year: Erik Jones (Wrong. Jones had a hell of a year but i feel like this season also exposed some of his shortcomings. I'd go Suarez on this personally)
Reject of the year: Elliott Sadler (Wrong. I gotta these predictions with my brain and not off me hating the guy)
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Anyone signed to Tri-Star. (Correct. Starr got canned.)
Champion: Erik Jones (Wrong. Smart pick from a pure speed pick but bad pick on the easily self-destructible point of view)
Runner-up: Daniel Suarez (Wrong. OH YEAH THE ONE TIME I PICK WITH MY BRAIN INSTEAD OF MY HEART AND IT BITES ME IN THE ASS)

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series:

First-time winners: Rico Abreu, Daniel Suarez, Daniel Hemric (1/3. Rico was crap, Suarez notched win, Hemric was good but didn't do it)
Most wins in a season: Matt Crafton. (Wrong. He got wins, but he was no where close to 7)
Upset of the year: Someone unknown wins Eldora (Wrong. Larson was probably a favorite)
Disappointments: Johnny Sauter (Wrong. Welp)
Best race of 2016: Eldora (Sure? I can't remember right now)
Worst race of 2016: Texas (See best race)
Retirees at season end: Johnny Sauter (Probably not)
Driver of the year: Christopher Bell (Wrong. Bell did pretty solid but Byron was in a league of his own)
Reject of the year: Donnie Levister (LMFAO)
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Donnie Levister. (He didn't even start a race)
Champion: Matt Crafton (Wrong. One spot off)
Runner-up: Christopher Bell (Wrong. One spot off)

Most wins in a season: Joey Logano Jimmie Johnson.
Upset of the year: Austin Dillon wins one of the super speedway races like Dale intended. Nope.
Disappointments: Tony Stewart goes winless in his final season How the hell did he win Sonoma?
Best race of 2016: Darlington I think so. There were a few races that were really good this season.
Worst race of 2016: Texas Wasn't expecting anything less.
Retirees at season end: Tony Stewart (the obvious one), Boobie Laboobie Tony and apparently Brian Scott. Still waiting for confirmation on Boobie...
Driver of the year: Joey Logano Either Jimmie or Martin Truex, Jr.
Reject of the year: Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. Brian Scott
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Jeffery Earnhardt None that I recall.
Champion: Carl Edwards (The Chase makes the title fight such a lottery that it's hard to pick a sure-fire champion) GOD DAMNIT SO CLOSE.  Crying or Very sad
Runner-up: Kevin Harvick Joey Logano

Re: 2016 Motorsports Predictions

Post by PYLrulz on Sun Nov 20, 2016 8:42 pm

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series:

First-time winners: Chase Elliott
Maybe I should have at least gone with my Larson pick from last year.
Most wins in a season: Brad Keselowski (7 wins)
lolNope
Upset of the year: Bobby Labonte will upset everyone and win at Daytona
lolNope
Disappointments: Roush has more of the same
lolYes
Best race of 2016: Bristol
Worst race of 2016: If the new package is all it seems, I'd say there shouldn't be many. Indy

Well things were better, but I'd think I'm still wrong on the best at least.
Retirees at season end: Bobby Labonte done totally, of course Tony Stewart is done.
I'm not counting Brian Scott's retirement. He quit because the truth finally slapped him on his face and he sucks
Driver of the year: Brad Keselowski
There really wasn't a stand out performer this year, so it's going to be Jimmie by default
Reject of the year: Ricky Steinhouse Jr., again.
Can we wreck Roush and start that team from scratch?
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Ricky Steinhouse
Nobody really lost their ride other than Cole Whit, but can we count that?
Champion: Kyle Busch
lolNope
Runner-up: Brad Keselowski
Right team tho

Re: 2016 Motorsports Predictions

Post by Alta on Sun Nov 27, 2016 8:49 pm

Formula One:

First-time winners: Danill Kvyat (Wrong. He started off looking good but then Russia happened and then depression
Most wins in a season: My Heart: Sebastian Vettel, My Mind: Lewis Hamilton (Heart Wrong, Mind Right. Vettel didn't even win, Hammy got most wins but only took that honor in the last race of the year)
Upset of the year: Manor and Haas scores points (Correct on both. Grosjean got Haas 29, and Wehrlein got a single point
Disappointments: Jolyon Palmer (Arguably correct. Palmer had some pretty bad points at the beginning of the year, although Rio Haryanto still ran this year.
Best race of 2016: Hungary (Wrong. Brazil took the honors)
Worst race of 2016: Abu Dhabi (Wrong. Yas Marina actually is a top 5 on the year)
Retirees at season end: N/A (Wrong. Massa and Button called it quits)
Driver of the year: Sebastian Vettel (Wrong. Vettel and Ferrari had an off year)
Reject of the year: Pastor Maldonado (Wrong. Didn't run)
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Pastor Maldonado (Wrong didn't even get it)
Champion: Sebastian Vettel (Wrong. Ferrari were probably the worst i've seen that team in a while)
Runner-up: Lewis Hamilton (Correct. Holy crap going with my heart/biases paid off)

Re: 2016 Motorsports Predictions

First-time winners: Valtteri Bottas
lolNo. Verstappen says otherwise
Most wins in a season: Lewis Hamilton (9)
One off, but otherwise correct (10 to Rosberg's 9)
Upset of the year: 3 teams win races (Mercs dominate, with an occasional win from Ferrari and Williams
lolNo. Usual Merc domination though.
Disappointments: McLaren still sluggish as all hell
Showed a little life this season. Sauber and Renault stunk up the joint with Haas slowing down late.
Best race of 2016: Belgium
Brazil says otherwise
Worst race of 2016: Abu Dhabi
lolNo... though Hamilton's strategy helped matters.
Retirees at season end: Felipe Massa
As well as Button
Driver of the year: Valtteri Bottas
Max Verstappen by a mile
Reject of the year: Pastor Maldonado
Well, F1 wised up and no one gave him a ride at any time this season.
Most likely to lose ride in the middle of the season: Whoever ends up in the Marussia
Called it. Couldn't call the driver because there was no drivers on the team at the time of the prediction. Haryanto helps give me a correct pick.
Champion: Lewis Hamilton
Runner-up: Nico Rosberg

Let's flip the script, shall we?!?
