Korodovos Warned by Officials After First Practice
Nicholas Korodovos earned the ire of PCC Cup officials during First Practice today at Road America after causing two separate incidents in practice. The first incident occurred twelve minutes into practice, when the slow car of Jerry Myatt failed to get a good run coming off of Turn 6. Korodovos, on his second flying lap of the session, made no effort to pass the ailing #969 Nice Coq Racing Mercedes and turned Myatt's car into the tire barriers on the inside of Turn 7.
After the session was red-flagged for 25 minutes to remove the #969 from the track and to repair damage done to the tire wall, Korodovos caused a second incident in the same turn. This time the accident involved the #70 Clason Enterprises Dodge of Hank Wheatfarmer Jr. Much like in the first incident, the slower car of Wheatfarmer failed to get a good run coming out of turn 6. Korodovos, on another flying lap, failed to make an attempt to pass the #70 and turned Wheatfarmer into the same tire barrier on the inside of Turn 7.
PCC Cup officials released a statement after this second incident, stating that Korodovos was "under their gaze" for the rest of the weekend.
Korodovos caused no further incidents in qualifying, which was held in the wet, or in Final Practice. Kelly Blackwater, the second driver for ROG Motorsports, took her first career pole. Cale Burnfardt Jr. starts 2nd in a rare display of road course brilliance from the superspeedway expert. Korodovos will roll off 35th after struggling with his full-wet setup throughout the 20-minute qualifying session.
