This actually changes a lot. McDowell is much safer, and now he finally gets to compete full-time (considering the runs he had...chaser Michael McDowell?!?). My bet is Mears takes the now-vacated 44 Petty ride.

Sounds more like Mears is still going to have some GEICO backing and will run Xfinity races for Childress.

I think there was talk of a second team at LFR.
Also Ben Rhodes is in talks with a "Good Cup Team". Maybe he's going to the #44?

Chris Buescher will be heading to a second JTG car with the 16 team's charter. Also, sounds like Gray Gaulding may have already lost the TMG ride due to lack of payments.

Monster Energy is the new sponsor for the Cup Series, though a final name hasn't been announced yet. They will keep sponsoring Kurt Busch, and existing competing energy drink sponsors will be grandfathered in.

One of the reporters stated that NASCAR didn't get anywhere near their asking price for the title sponsorship. Well, I think everyone laughed when it was reported that NASCAR's asking price was $1,000,000,000.

This may be off topic, and it's not a huge deal but I'm not a fan of having the "Monster Energy Girls" at races. Kind of seems hypocritical when NASCAR talks about wanting to be more diverse, but Brian France's endorsement brought light to that already.

It sounds like at best 100m for the whole deal from what i read.
The rest of that press conference kinda screamed outta touch business men. So it wouldn't shock me.NeverNeutral wrote:This may be off topic, and it's not a huge deal but I'm not a fan of having the "Monster Energy Girls" at races. Tying up some loose ends. HScott is done, Premium got the charter they leased for the 46 back as well as the 15's charter. 46 charter went to the 77, they're keeping the 15.
Sounds like Buscher is taking his Front Row sponsors to JTG and the 34 has nothing at the moment.
Dale Jr. is cleared to return for Daytona, but Alex Bowman will be in the 88 for the Clash.
Matt DiBenedetto is the latest driver to not get paid by BK Racing. Sounds like he's going to the 44 and that Go Fas is going to get involved with them somehow. Jeffrey Earnhardt seems to be getting the 83.
Ryan Preece left JD Motorsports, rumor is Tommy Baldwin bought the JR Motorsports truck team and that he will be racing for him.
GMS looks to be running three trucks, Sauter and Kaz Grala are confirmed with Spencer moving to Xfinity. Sounding like Enfinger still won't be running full-time yet, unfortunately.

Suck for MattyDRaps. Really started to like him after Bristol this year and, overall, just seems like a good guy to be around. The 44 car is cursed, so I really hope he isn't going there, but at the same token that's really the only spot open at the moment other than the 34 (38 if Cassill moves to the 34) at Front Row.

Would be nice if the guy who got you an ARCA championship and a Truck win (yes at Talladega but it's a win) could get a fair shake for once. All these young kids are coming through with $$$ and Enfinger is just sitting there when he's not CCing. Not huge on Grala or Haley (who I think is also confirmed at this point), but it is what it is.

Re: Nascar offseason news
Clarifying the Petty/Go FAS Deal, the 32 charter is being leased to the Wood Brothers and Go FAS seems to be running the 44 entirely. A lot of wheeling and dealing going on.
So if all this comes true and I'm not missing anything, there should be 38 charters accounted for:
2 Ganassi - 1 McMurray, 42 Larson
2 Penske - 2 Keselowski, 22 Logano
3 RCR - 3 A. Dillon, 27 Menard, 31 Newman
4 SHR - 4 Harvick, 10 Patrick, 14 Bowyer, 41 Kurt Busch
4 Hendrick - 5 Kahne, 24 Elliott, 48 Johnson, 88 Dale Jr.
2 Roush - 6 Bayne, 17 Stenhouse
4 Gibbs - 11 Hamlin, 18 Kyle Busch, 19 Edwards, 20 Kenseth

First off, does anyone have a source for any of this, because this is the first I've heard of any of it. I searched through Twitter and Google but found nothing so I would appreciate it. Especially the part about BK Racing not paying DiBenedetto and Ragan because in both cases there was no mention of them not paying. From what I saw DiBenedetto left and BK chose not to resign Ragan.zfitzwater599 wrote:The 83 cup ride will go to Joey Gase.
Secondly, there are only 36 charter teams. The Motorsports Group never had one, and Premium's second charter is now the #77 team at Furniture Row.NeverNeutral wrote:So if all this comes true and I'm not missing anything, there should be 38 charters accounted for:

A lot of this comes from people who work for Nascar teams, so its not 100% that they're true, but they do have insider info and tend to be in the ballpark with their info. Also, NeverNeutral did say in a couple of those that they were rumors.
Regarding the charters, Circle Sport is (supposedly) taking their charter to the Motorsports Group and working with them, since they split from LFR at the end of the season. This gives TMG a charter.

Re: Nascar offseason news
BK announced a couple weeks ago that they would be running a rotation of drivers for 2017, so this is probably the first of many drivers announced. Jeffrey Earnhardt probably could still run some races in one of their cars, but it does not sound like they will have a full time driver in 2017. As for speculation on other possible drivers, Dylan Lupton and Ryan Ellis would be the first two to come to mind. Both drivers ran for BK in 2016 and both have an amount of sponsorship for next season. If the rumors are true that the deal between The Motorsports Group and Gray Gaulding fell apart, Gaulding could end up running some races here since I believe he still has Krispy Kreme sponsorship. This could also be an opportunity for Gibbs to get Daniel Suarez some seat time in Cup.zfitzwater599 wrote:Gase will be driving the 23 in the 500. ESPN's Bob Pockrass is reporting that Circle Sport and The Motorsports Group have officially merged. They will run one car, the #33 car, full time. The #30 car that TMG ran full time in 2016 may run on a part time basis later in the year. The #33 car will use the charter that Circle Sport owns. No driver was announced.

Carl Edwards to not race in NASCAR for 2017. Suarez tagged to replace.
Just when you think things couldn't get any crazier, Carl Edwards pulls this out of his rear!
Gotta wonder what's up with that.

Just when you thought that Rosberg's retirement was the biggest surprise that you'd hear in a long time.BooyakaDragon wrote:http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/exclusive-carl-edwards-wont-race-2017

I hope that Edwards enjoys whatever it is that he may venture into.

Edwards is notoriously private with his personal life, which I can respect. I wonder if Nico Rosberg's statement that he couldn't give enough energy to make another serious run at the World Championship resonated with Cousin Carl (or as Kurt Busch apparently called him, "The Carl")?
Alternatively, there might be other things Edwards wants to do with his life while he feels he's young enough to do them properly. The one thing I can think of is acting, and a lot of modern racing drivers are pretty good at making excuses.

Wasn't Carl on the show "24" in the past? That would make a lot of sense, if that was the case.

Apparently it looks like Carl may be interested in getting into politics.Ben Atkins wrote:Cynon wrote:PYLrulz wrote:BooyakaDragon wrote:http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/exclusive-carl-edwards-wont-race-2017

He mostly said he's done what he wanted to accomplish, in racing. He's been racing for 20 years, full-time and wants to go into other ventures. He also suggested he's healthy, and him being able to leave saying that is good.
Re: Nascar offseason news
Why seeing Edwards go sucks, it sounds like he was absolutely burned out. Which i totally can understand with.
Hyped to see what Suarez can do, he's got a big shot.

Given that he had the Gadsden flag openly displayed on his car, that isn't a surprise.
