NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
Just to avoid all the clutter of random news threads, post and discuss any silly season or news items here. I'll start:
- Bowyer weighing in options with other teams (Including RPM), still considering returning to RCR
- Fastenal Sponsoring Carl Edwards in Cup in 2012
- NASCAR to have its first ever Native American team Owner as Bob Germain will team up with longtime friend and businessman O.B. Osceola, Jr to form Germain Osceola Racing.
- ISC has aquired more land to improve traffic and extend parking for Kentucky Speedway, plans include a pedestrian tunnel.
- Rumor has it the KHI may be no more next season. Mike Dillon and someone else were spotted at the shop taking notes of the inventory
Regarding the KHI Story, I think RCR is about to absorb KHI. I say this because look at the timeline of things that have happened:
2010: No more 29 Team for the 2010 season
October 2010: Childress shuts down the 21 Nationwide team after many years and poor performances, most of which attributed to by John Wes Townly. At the same team, Austin Dillon is beginning to find his stride in the Trucks
2011: RCR makes engine deal with KHI, ECR engines now the sole engine for KHI in Nationwide and Trucks. Austin Dillon now consistantly in contention while younger brother Ty is putting on a dominent performance in ARCA
By Absorbing KHI, Richard is making a step ladder for his grandsons and eventually (assuming he ever gets the kind of pace Austin has going more often) Coulter. This would Give RCR now four Trucks and two Nationwide cars (well three if you count the 4 car) as well as potential a third car for ARCA.

Re: NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
Guess I'll be the only one that keeps this going:
- UPS plans to cut back dramatically on its support of Roush Fenway Racing's #6 Ford driven by David Ragan in 2012, SportsBusiness Daily reported. Sources familiar with the company's plan said it will drop its full-season primary sponsorship of the #6 car and sponsor 4-8 races at RFR in '12.
- Jeffrey Earnhardt to run in Grand Am Series: The Earnhardt family has accomplished nearly every goal set in racing. Jeffrey Earnhardt will now set his goal on a family first&&winning the championship in the NASCAR owned Grand Am Series
- Rockingham Speedway will host a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, tentatively scheduled for the second weekend of April 2012, sources have told ESPN The Magazine. The event will mark the track's first NASCAR event since the then-Winston Cup Series held its 78th and final race at "The Rock" on Feb. 22, 2004.

No he didn't, he merged with Morgan Shepherd.

Five trucks, RCR has the 3 and 22, KHI has the 2, 8, and 33, and as far as I know there's no four car team limit in Trucks or Nationwide.

Kevin Harvick Inc is officially done. Harvick has pulled the plug and has closed shop. The Nationwide team will merge with RCR but the #33 truck team has shut down and Ron Hornaday has ben told that he would need to find another ride.
Thoughts?

All I have to say is I called it. From the moment it was mentioned that some key personnel were "Taking notes of the inventory", I basically knew KHI was done. I feel sorry for basically all the KHI drivers in the Trucks, they basically got the boot without warning and just when it was started to get better for Piquet.
Of course, Harvick says they still have the rest of the season as KHI but afterwards, no more.

Re: NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
Maybe they'll throw the Truck drivers into the Nationwide seats so Bowyer and Harvick aren't always driving?

Thats assuming RCR will run more then the 2 and 33 otherwise not gonna happen. Its pretty much been said that the 33 will continue to be fielded for the RCR Sprint Cup Drivers.

Danica's already has been confirmed at Bristol.
Would that mean RPM goes to 3 cars, or does Ambrose or Allmendinger get dumped out? Cause I don't want neither driver to get kicked from their ride.

Re: NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
Saw this coming:
Just as I suspected, Richard Childress has established a step ladder for his Grand kids. Of course this now leaves just one question: Who's replacing Ty in the 41 for ARCA?
Also according to Speed, Johnny Benson will be returning to the Truck Series with his own team. Great to hear and I really hope there might a small chance that Hornaday will be part of it.
Jayski wrote:Dillon will use the #3 in Nationwide Series in 2012: The return of Nationwide Series teams to Richard Childress Racing also signifies the return of the venerable #3 Chevy to competition full time in 2012. The merger between Kevin Harvick Inc. and RCR will enable KHI's existing teams, the #2 car with Elliott Sadler and the #33 with a cast of current Sprint Car drivers, to compete in the NNS along with Childress' grandson Austin Dillon. Dillon, 21, drives the #3 Silverado in the Camping World Truck Series. Dillon competed in four Nationwide non-companion events for KHI this season. Dillon's brother Ty will take over the driving duties in the #3 truck next season.(Fox Sports), Austin Dillon is scheduled to make his Sprint Cup debut in the #98 Chevy at Kansas in October

Great to see Johnny back! It'll be interesting to see how they do if Hornaday will go with them.

RPM does NOT want Bowyer any more...
From jayski
•RPM no longer interested in Bowyer: Richard Petty Motorsports has withdrawn its offer to Clint Bowyer to drive a car for the organization in 2012. Team owner Andrew Murstein confirmed to FOXSports.com that RPM has decided to go in another direction with the program. "We are no longer in discussions with Clint," Murstein said. "We just feel that RPM is in a great place today, especially how far we have come since last year. Both #9-Marcos (Ambrose) and #43-A.J. (Allmendinger) are not only having career years, but they are both moving in the right directions and improving. "Clint is a great driver and we wish him the best wherever he ends up. For now, we will continue to focus on our two teams and continuing to make great strides as we return the King and his unmatched tradition and legion of loyal fans back into Victory Lane." The most recent organization in the Bowyer sweepstakes is Michael Waltrip Racing. Bowyer was seen touring MWR last Thursday. If he ends up at MWR, expect the company to a run a third team along with current drivers #00-David Reutimann and #56-Martin Truex, Jr.(Fox Sports)(9-14-2011)

Ok, anybody see the irony here?

If Bowyer goes to MWR, his career is finished.

I don't understand why MWR wants to expand. Sure Truex is doing a lot better, but overall the team's two cars haven't been great.

It'd be ironic if Bowyer ended up at MWR especially after Clint called Mikey "the worst driver in NASCAR, period."

Re: NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
Word is the #6 Cup car could become a part time team with possible ride altering between David Ragan, Ricky Stenhouse & Trevor Bayne. Personally, I'd rather the other two share it then Ragan. While I may hate Stenhouse in Nationwide, he actually has been constintly in contention along with Bayne unlike Ragan ever has been in his career. As for the other cars, the 99 and 16 are reported as fully funded while the 17 isn't but the team says they are prepared to run that car unsponsored.
Re: NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
Great. Ragan is out full time, but that means Stenhouse will run more Cup race. Which is worse? And I think Bayne is returning to the Wood Brothers.

Two terrible drivers and Roush putting Stenhouse over Bayne. Not surprised that team is going part-time. When Mark left...that #6 team up and died.Nascarboy426 wrote:RACECAR wrote:Word is the #6 Cup car could become a part time team

For some reason, Roush keeps the terrible drivers, and gets rid of drivers who actulally have talent(ex. Erik Darnell, Colin Braun).Alta wrote:Two terrible drivers and Roush putting Stenhouse over Bayne. Not surprised that team is going part-time. Re: NASCAR News/Silly Season Thread
If any Roush car is unsponsored, they should use the old Citgo paint scheme that Jeff Burton used. (I hate Citgo, but I've always loved that paint scheme)
