NASCAR at Talladega

Post by bigdc48 on Wed Oct 21, 2015 5:29 pm

The final race of the 2nd Round of the Chase is held at the treacherous, baddest track: Talladega Superspeedway. Joey Logano is the only driver in the Chase that'll automatically move onto the 3rd Round with wins at Charlotte and Kansas. Everyone else is literally gonna sweat this one out for 500 miles to see which 7 others will move on.

The truck series is back after John Wrecks Weekly Wes Townley shockingly won on fuel mileage at Las Vegas a few weeks ago. Erik Jones, Matt Crafton and Tyler Reddick are in a heated battle for the championship with 5 races remaining heading to Talladega on Saturday.

Format change this weekend as for the cup race there will be only 1 GWC if needed rather than the usual 3.

Not surprising post-Firecracker 400. For someone who doesn't watched NASCAR for a little while, I sense that there will be a BS move in the race.

I like this. I always found it annoying how it always takes more GWC attempts then necessary to finish a race under green at super speedways because people like to junk it up at the end, especially on the Cup level.

gg townley

Brandon Jones' crew chief said on the restart before the Big One, "It's all in God's hands," so I was silently hoping something would happen to Jones just so I could say, "WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?!"

Whatever. GW Peters. Matt Crafton's team gets an A for effort even though they should've pulled that car out after the entire rear end of that truck came off.

As a fan of Spencer Gallagher, that finish was painful for me to watch.

I thought that the race was pretty good, and although the finish was a little lackluster, it's bound to happen from time to time. But remembering his third-place charge last year and watching him run in the top 5 all day today really got my hopes up to see him challenge for the win.

If the 1 attempt rule continues after this race, then NASCAR is basically admitting "We hate our fans and want the most anticlimactic finish possible. Freak accidents where the driver was UNHURT are totally worth running the risk of multi car teams wrecking someone to end the race with a teammate in the lead."

(I know that's nowhere near what happened, but trust me, if this rule continues, it will.)

Calling major BS on that last call. The first call, that the restart was not an attempt; I think that was justified because the flagman was waving the yellow when the leaders got to the S/F line. The second restart, I'm calling BS. What we saw clearly on TV was Junior out ahead when the caution graphic was shown, not necessarily the light.

I used to like Logano, but not so much now. Been a whiny asshole these past few weeks and today he was at his worst. I'll still be a good sport and say good win, but I do not for an instant agree with that call.

If Logano actually thinks this was a legitimate win, he's either insane or retarded. There was NO difference between those two wrecks except the officials decided they were cool with Logano winning.

In other words, the new GWC rule is basically race fixing. We're talking "keep throwing cautions until the guy who was falsely accused of a crime isn't leading" (California 2015) levels of bullshit here. Whoever decided on that rule change should be investigated; I think they might be a "double agent" working against NASCAR.

Keep in mind, this is all coming from someone who likes the elimination rounds format of the Chase.

Uh, I don't see why Harvick would have any reason to do that. I mean Bayne got by him really quickly, he probably (Just an assumption) went right to get out of the way as fast as possible and didn't expect Bayne to get by him so quickly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought he was comfortably at the moment?

I think NASCAR should revoke Harvick's spot, maybe even park him for the rest of the season (full on, no 4 car in the race style park). He proved able to get out of the way the first time.
I'd also investigate Logano, it was pretty clear he slowed down trying to draw a caution, thus SABOTAGING THE RACE to guarantee the win. Why would he run 2 more laps when he could fake an issue and thus prevent issues.

Also, fuck Dale Jarrett for thinking the first one was the finish.

If this is anything like the Spingate scandal a few years ago, what NASCAR will end up doing is take Harvick out and put Junior in, since the deciding call of the race came at his expense, and of course Harvick's move on the restart was sketchy at best...

Of course Harvick wrecked the field on purpose, I'd do that too if I was him.

Nobody ever thinks shit like this will happen until it does. Notice how Bayne hasnt been interviewed, and then realize.... He's likely to say things the NASCAR higher ups won't like. Shit's going down, and money's changing hands under the table as we speak.

We should start a GoFundMe to put a bounty on Harvick for the Martinsville race. Even if no one takes action on it during the race, the point is still made.

NASCAR told them not to, so they wouldn't risk exposure of how corrupt the officials really are. If Bayne had wrecked Harvick, they'd be on his ass right now. At this point, I am actively hoping that someone sabotages Harvick's car for the next round.

Regardless of whether or not he did wreck Bayne intentionally, or whether or not there is a penalty, this is no way to respond.

This has been the worst season ever for NASCAR, way worse than 2008.

It was intended as more of a symbolic threat than anything. I don't want anyone to get hurt, I just want anyone but him to win the title.

At this rate what is stopping people from doing that at 200 if Nascar is going to react like that. They claim to be champions of safety but this point system is making professional racing drivers pull moves that you and your mate would do at go-kart track just because you're young dumb kids.

A better Dega race up until the straight farcical end. It's funny yet sad at the same time.
