Russian GP now in doubt?
Following the shocking plane crash yesterday of MH17, which was allegedly shot down by pro-Russian Separatists in Ukraine, could this push the Sochi Grand Prix to postponement?

Isn't Sochi like Russia's version of Detroit? All I have to say is, "about damn time"

Although i'm not familiar with flight paths and how F1 teams and their drivers get their stuff from track to track. I know for a fact that Sochi is on the far southwest part of the country and right near the Ukraine Border. So with that in mind and looking into certain events with the downed planed yesterday, i think the odds of this race not happening are really high.

This is Bernie were talking about here. Unless the UN threatens to shoot him on-site, the race will go on.

They did cancel the 2011 Bahrain GP though, remember.

Only when it got so bad, the safety of everyone involved couldn't be guaranteed. The race was scheduled to take place during what wound up being a three-month state of emergency. The race will go on, unless there's fighting within half-a-mile of Sochi.RetrogradeRenegade wrote:crl wrote:This is Bernie were talking about here. Beyond a joke that a country with a government like Russia is awarded a Grand Prix, the Olympics and a World Cup. If Iraq and Libya made use of their oil money, no doubt Bernie would be holding discussions left, right and centre.

Re: Russian GP now in doubt?
Two years ago, when Bernie decided not to cancel Bahrain for a second time, I Tweeted to the actor Donal Logue, who's a big racing fan, that Bernie would've held a race in the Southeastern US during the Civil War, even during the second Battle of Franklin in 1864, which turned the war in the Union Army's favor, and was the bloodiest battle of the whole ordeal. Logue favorited that Tweet.Milan655 wrote:Beyond a joke that a country with a government like Russia is awarded a Grand Prix, the Olympics and a World Cup. Russia is more like Europe's version of Mexico. Some people are ok, some aren't, but you wouldn't trust the government with anything and the country is run by crooks...
Incidentally, Mexico is set to be confirmed for the 2015 calendar. Yippee.

You would be right about that.
Good to see Mexico back. That's one of the classic circuits.
