Paul Menard's wife is expected to give birth anytime soon, so RCR has Matt Crafton on stand-by in-case Menard needs to jet back home.

Shades of the 2011 Coca-Cola 600, fuel problems rob Dale Jr. of Victory.
Re: Kobalt Tools 400 Discussion Thread
I'm ok with Kes winning, sucks that I have a stomachache and missed the finish.
2013 was definitely an off year.

Hey and also, Paul Menard who almost didn't race because of his Wife giving birth prematurely, finishes 3rd. Guess he took the chance and got it.
Re: Kobalt Tools 400 Discussion Thread
The Kez Dispenser is back. At least, for today. He can probably cruise for another 20 races or so before he picks it up again.

A bit of lackluster race with a pretty good last 30 laps, Good finish as well.
Good to see Kez back to his previous form, 2013 was truly a goof year. Sucks for junior but i was solidly in the 2 camp.

Ugh... Good finish, but at least Kes won, so i'm okay, better than Kyle Busch...
Junior has 8 straight top-10's and 5-6 top 5's in a row
JuneBug has a 11 point lead over Kes.
Also, Danica 21st, better than any SHR car...

Pretty decent race today. Too bad Dale Jr couldn't hang on, but that was a solid win for Kes. Solid run for Menard today too.

I don't think being a little bit short on fuel for one race means he's returned to his "old form"...
In fact I think Jr's record of 1st, 2nd and 2nd says otherwise.

Old form as in putting his driver in contention for wins and titles, even though people got buttmad at him for fucking the team out of a few races here and there?

Yeah I kinda realized this later. If Steve LeTarte is to truly return to form, he needs to screw over Jr with a botched late race strategy call.

Steve Letarte is a much better crew chief than he's given credit for -- he just has the misfortune of working with the two drivers with the most easily butthurt fanbases in all of racing.

I swear he has the worst luck among crew chiefs, it's like what ever strategy he picks ends up being the wrong one. Remember Vegas back around 09-10ish where Jeff had it in the bag, then a late caution hit and Jeff pit and got beat by Jimmie Johnson who I think employed an opposite pit strategy? there were several races like that I remember.

Re: Kobalt Tools 400 Discussion Thread
Wasn't it last year where Kez and Junior were the only two drivers with top tens in each of the first seven races or something to that effect? Anyways, happy for Kez. After last year, its great to see him in Victory Lane, even if it is at the dispense of Junior. Dat Menard Doe. Also, I was really disappointed with SHR. Their only even remotely competitive car breaks down and their next best is surprisingly Danica in 21st. Hmm...

I'm confused here, You seemed to bag on him for making bad calls and now you say he has the worst luck? Which one is it?Mother of Invention wrote:Cynon wrote:Mother of Invention wrote:Ben Atkins wrote:Mother of Invention wrote:I see Steve LeTarte has returned to his old form....

Sometimes crew chiefs are right and sometime they're wrong.

I think it's about 50-50there is a certain "luck factor" involved such as with the Coke 600 and this race. But other times he just makes bad choices.Alta wrote:I'm confused here, You seemed to bag on him for making bad calls and now you say he has the worst luck? Which one is it?

If it wasn't for this, nobody would really say anything particularly bad about him, and maybe some people would praise him for getting <Insert Not Particularly Popular But Still Skilled Driver Here> to a few race wins.
