Re: F1 and NASCAR both visit Texas on the same weekend...
Texas Motor Speedway isn't even selling backstretch tickets for the two stops that Nascar Cup makes this year. Nascar is gonna get slaughtered on this one, The COTA date has people coming from all across America to see the lone American date on F1 schedule. Nascar's TMS date has just people in surrounding areas (Maybe as far as Oklahoma) coming to see the local Nascar race in town at a track that is similar to a good chunk of the Nascar schedule.
If you add on the fact that TMS in the past few years has been a atrocious race, You can figure out why people seem to prefer that other product.

Sounds like Eddie Gossage is a little butthurt that he'll be hemorrhaging even more money than before on that date. I hope F1 runs them out of a race there, honestly.

He'll probably just get <Insert major American political issue> related sponsorship to hope it sells more tickets.BurningThunder wrote:Sounds like Eddie Gossage is a little butthurt that he'll be hemorrhaging even more money than before on that date.

If Gossage wants to be pissed at someone, be pissed at NASCAR for putting out a piss-poor product. The track does suck some though.

I can't think of the last time there was actually a NASCAR Race at Texas that was actually watchable.

Maybe the first one, when there was a 10 car pileup in the first turn in the raceBWardboy88 wrote:PYLrulz wrote:If Gossage wants to be pissed at someone, be pissed at NASCAR for putting out a piss-poor product. The track does suck some though.

Bernie will not give two flying shits in all honesty, so long as the celebrities turn up.
On a similar note, Bernie has literally stuck his middle finger up to quite a lot of fans, now cancelling the allowance for teams to donate free paddock passes to friends and family which was how I used to get into Silverstone. Doesn't affect a lot of people, but irritating for those it does affect.

I don't think that's ever happened. There's been little moments of hilarity like the Jeff vs. Jeff slap fight and the first turn fail in the first ever race there, and some of the truck races have been tolerable. Honestly the only open wheel races at Texas that have been any good were before 2000, largely due to the IRL crapwagons of the time. The only exception was when Justin Wilson won there for Dale Coyne.

Texas Motor Speedway sucks ass to begin with, and you know this when even IndyCar couldn't put on a good race there last year, and IndyCar's on-track product is perhaps the best in the world right now, IMO. And of course, it doesn't help that the races have been trash, save for perhaps a few truck races.
Besides that, if they aren't selling the backstretch seats, why the hell does this track even have two dates to begin with? In my opinion, it doesn't even deserve A date, let alone two. It's the worst track on the schedule, and I have a feeling that fact will not change this year.

I personally agree. Plenty of the intermediate speedways aren't all that bad, but NASCAR's current cars and tire compounds make a good race on them almost a rarity.PackerMan71 wrote:Texas Motor Speedway sucks ass to begin with, and you know this when even IndyCar couldn't put on a good race there last year, and IndyCar's on-track product is perhaps the best in the world right now, IMO. However, as already mentioned, Texas has never seemed to produce any decent racing in any of the series that I can think of. The races there have always seemed especially boring to me. Despite it's similarities to Charlotte and Atlanta, I personally think that those tracks produce much better races than Texas (and considering the thin frontstretch crowds that show up for the Cup races, I'm surprised they're selling tickets there, too).

But then again, didn't IndyCar admit they came to Texas with the wrong set up for the cars, and would come back with something better?

There have been decent truck races in the past, 2006 seemed pretty good even know i couldn't see the race due to a power outage, Indycar's had a few good races as well.

Great race, I remember watching this. I agree though I can't recall another time Texas was worth my time outside of IRL.Mother of Invention wrote:

Texas is by far the most overrated track in NASCAR in terms of entertainment. They hype and hype it up, and it's always boring. I think it'll will be better though now that the spring race is back on Sunday afternoon at least.

They said they would come back with something better, but whether or not they can actually make it happen is an entirely different story.
Not that IndyCar can't come up with a way to put on one helluva race product. It's just that Texas Motor Speedway sucks.

Would it be safe to just move the date a week back? It's not like the off-season can get any shorter lol.
