Re: 2012 Race 1: Daytona 300
- Spoiler:
- First of all, is that Pedobear driving the "pace van"?
FAC's ARLA debut ends early at Daytona
Nick Azure's debut in ARLA went up in smoke after Azure was involved in the big one on lap 29 in race 1. Azure dipped to the inside, but then clipped the 57 of Ashley Tucker, ending his day. Before then Nick struggled to hang on to the main pack. "We were struggling the entire race up to that point. I went to the inside to avoid the wreck, but just barely clipped the 57. While all the other Saar's were blowing up in the second race, we were just off pace."
Nick's next race will be at Carbondale.

Re: 2012 Race 1: Daytona 300
- Spoiler:
- Rhylen's Debut Ends Early, Clutch Issues
After having a great start to his ARLA Elite Series debut, and even leading for a lap or two, Mac Rhylen went out of the race with just seventeen laps remaining, with clutch issues. He had this to say, "I was very impressed with how the car ran. I am extremely proud of my team for building me this excellent piece, and I wish we could have finished the race, but things like that happen."
Also at the track, team owner Ike Durbin commented on Rhylen's debut. "I was alittle worried about Mac running his first race at Daytona. Obviously I shouldn't have been. He won an NSRL race there a few years back, so I guess I shouldn't have been that worried. He drove a great race, we just had an unfortunate clutch issue towards the end of the race that eliminated us."
The next race is Talladega, another big SuperSpeedway, where Rhylen and Ike Durbin, Inc. hope for some redemption.

- Spoiler:
- Gaffigan Comes Close 2nd, Delgado Returns With Respectable 13th
Kyle Gaffigan was one lap away from his first ARLA Elite Series victory, but he'll have to be content with 2nd as his teammate Joseph Howard edged him out at the line for his 2nd ARLA victory. This is notable as that it ends the run of first-time winners in the race.
"I told Joseph that if it came down to the two of us, to let me win. Guess he didn't hear me" Gaffigan said while laughing. "Everything worked so great today, I just wish I could have brought the win home for my parents who were in my pit area today" Gaffigan added before celebrating the team's 1-2 finish with Joseph Howard in victory lane.
Meanwhile, Tom Delgado had a slightly more eventful day. In his first sanctioned race since his heart attack in January, Delgado's body held up, though not necessarily his car as he was able to bring it home in a respectable 13th position after getting caught up in the big accident on lap 29. "If only we hadn't got caught in that mess" Delgado kept muttering on the radio. "We had a car capable of a top 5, maybe even winning this thing. That mess on lap 29 set us too far back. We had no place to go, we committed to the high line and that wasn't the way to go. I should have shown a bit better awareness, but the fact of the matter is we finished" Delgado said after coming out of the car. "I'm glad Joseph and Kyle came 1-2, but I really would have loved to be fighting for that win with them" Delgado added, lamenting his involvement in the lap 29 crash.
The #87 will most likely return at the Mini Indy 500, with a potential driver combination of Tom Delgado & Azuma Kazeyama, similar to what they had last season at Dwyer, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Re: 2012 Race 1: Daytona 300
- Spoiler:
- Cranston happy to finish 9th in debut, apologetic for incidents caused
Lane Cranston's official ARLA Elite Series debut was successful. He started near the front, and stayed there all day, finishing 9th in his and MT Motorsports' very first ARLA start. However, Cranston was caught up in two separate incidents during his race.
First on Lap 25, while battling with Jim More, Cranston's car came up the track out of Turn 4, spinning More out and bringing out a caution. More did not hit the wall and kept going. Cranston was involved in the next caution on Lap 32, this time out of Turn 2. He clipped the left rear quarter panel of the 20 car of Darren Grant, collecting Nami Mura, who crashed head-on into the Superstretch wall, ending her race.
Cranston was not penalized, but he was apologetic.
"I'm sorry about the incidents I caused. I was too aggressive, and Nami's race ended early because of me. I'll try to be less aggressive at future races."
Despite this, Cranston was happy with how the race went.
"I'm so happy we had a car that could qualify in the Top 10, and stay there. I'm extremely happy with the result."
It goes without saying, so was MT Motorsports owner Fred Caldwell.
"We couldn't qualify for races where we were one-off entries. We get a full-time slot this season, and in our first race, we finish 9th? That's wild! Only winning would've been better."
Cranston and the team will now head to Talladega for the next race.

Re: 2012 Race 1: Daytona 300
- Spoiler:
- (BTW Ceej, it's More, not Mora, )
GLM Owner comes home with top-15 finish in ARLA Debut
For GLM's Jim More, today's event marked not only his first ARLA start, but also his first start on a paved race track in more than 20 years. The last time the 48 year-old Michigan native was behind the wheel of a race car was during a late model race at Buffalo Downs in 1992.
More started the day by first watching the first of the two races from the top of his motor coach cheering on Mac Rhylen, Ike Durbin's driver.
Following the 1st event, More buckled himself into his #28 Mega Mart machine and started 22nd in the 40 car field.
More spent much of the early part of the event inside the top-15. On lap 25, though, he had a close call when Lane Cranston washed up the track and made contact with the #28 and spinning More unto the flat. More however keeping his cool kept the car off the wall and avoided damage.
He would finish 14th.
Afterword, More had this to say about his debut:
"It was fun. That sounds generic I know, but I really did enjoy myself. We proved we had a car capable of running in the top 10 and we finished 14th. If not for Lane, we had a top-10 car I believe."
More went on to say he harbored no ill feeling toward Lane, but did say he might not be as kind in the future. More will be in Talladega for the next event.

- Spoiler:
- "Kuzzie" Celebrates Quiet Top-10 Finish With Vodka
After Daytona, many drivers were upset with their cars and engines. Not Yevgeny Kuznetsov.
Kuznetsov, affectionately called "Kuzzie" by his legions of adoring fans in Russia, gave a short interview after finishing 8th in Round 2 at Daytona.
"My English is not good, I am sorry if I speak bad at it. You know, during race, this superspeedway draft pack is really fun. There were couple accidents in front of me, so I use my skills learned in Russian Rally to get through. We could not race with leaders due to our car not have downforce like other cars. Though by end of race, we worked hard and we finish in the top-10. It is good start to good year. Also, thank you to Fatherland Vodka for putting logos on car. "
Kuzzie then pulled out a bottle of Fatherland Vodka, flashed it in front of the camera, took a swig from it, and proceeded to join the crew in their celebrations.

- Spoiler:
- Matthews apologetic for pit road incident:
Normally a top-10 finish would be a cause for celebration. Not so today, as Tiffany Matthews was more upset at herself than jubilant over her ninth-place effort in Race 1, her second career top-10 finish in two starts.
"I (messed) up," she said, referring to her get-together with Leslie Riggs on Pit Road during the first caution. "(Team owner) Ryan (Matthews) was spotting for me, and he was telling me over the radio that Leslie was on her way out of her pit, and I just didn't give her enough room, I guess. Fortunately, it didn't ruin either of our races, but I wanted to let her know that I was sorry and I'll make sure to listen to my spotter next time."
She also said her miscue probably cost her several spots on the track. "We had a great car all day," she said. "This was easily a top-five car, and we might have even been there for the win. But thanks to me, we had to settle for ninth."
The 116 team heads to Talladega next - a track Matthews has never seen before, let alone race on.
"I'm excited for Talladega," she said. "I'm actually beginning to like superspeedway racing, so I'm looking forward to seeing how well we run there. If our effort here is any indication, we'll be a force to be reckoned with."

- Pushanda pleased with 7th place
In his first superspeedway race, Vijay Pushanda scored a top ten. "I really don't like this type of racing, in fact, I hate it. The first half of the race was quite crazy. Plus I am really happy I have a Xenos under my hood." We have to do this all over again at Talladega. So, I am very happy, with the run."

- Spoiler:
- Makoto Yamada Alright After Wild Ride
In the first heat of the Daytona race today, there was a big one, which Big Mac Racing driver Makoto Yamada was involved in. The car was running in the 30's near the time of the wreck, a little off the pace. Up ahead of him, Yamada saw cars scattering all over the track. Actually let's ask what he saw. Yamada said, "The cars were all over the track in front of me. I thought I saw a crease in the pack of wrecked cars, but I nipped the side of another car and lost speed. Someone behind me didn't have time to break and hit me in the rear which sent me barrel rolling. It was just a racing incident... (later in interview) This was my first time flipping in a stock car. It was pretty freaky. I'm doing alright, but I'm really sore. Time to take some Aspirin."

- Morales unhurt in lap 29 wreck
"unbe-fusking-leiveable, the qualifying races were there for a reason, to keep out the drivers who don't know how to drive out of the series, I'm at a loss of words at what happened out there, and I hope Talladega isn't like this"
Winter has dissapointing day
"I'm just happy I finally got to race, Daniel [Leckliter] isn't happy, but he's optimistic that Lucas will redeem ourselves at Talladega next week"
This will be Winters first ARLA Elite Series start, he plans on racing the Mini Indy 500 and Rockford 200, all while racing the full CRL Modified schedule.

Dan Mackay to focus on TM Master Cup commitments instead:
Dan Mackay will be replaced in the 56 car for the rest of the season by Nicole Moreno. Dan was talking to team owner Mike Howard about how focusing on running Master Cup for the 2012 season would be a better idea then running in ARLA again.
OOC: Occured to me that full time in both series would be impossible, given some obvious reasons...

Can I suggest adding "2012 AES" or something similar to the topic title?

- Spoiler:
- The 728 team of Nikos Kastapolous had one strategy: stay towards the back of the pack and don't crash. Unfortunately, the big one tonight took over the whole racetrack on the backstretch.
"It was a real pain in the butt to get anywhere on the track honestly." said Kas after the race, "It's another bad start in this rookie season, but at least there were a crapload of people that wrecked out... Quite frankly I still am dissapointed at ARLA for the whole zero points for DNF drivers, if anybody it should be start and parkers, but i dont think we shuold go on the same level as people who don't even qualify. At least deduct x amount of points instead of just taking all of our points..."
Kastapolous is officially 73rd in the poitns.

Monroe addresses engine failures
M&J Racing co-owner Kevin Monroe was one of the many victims of engine failures in round 2 of the Daytona 300.
A majority of the engine failures occurred for Saar drivers, but Ebenezer Quiggles, Jr., Lawrence Burr, Chris Winter, and Jason Teller experienced engine problems as well.
Said Monroe, "If you've got one of those stupid sloped noses and you made it to the end, you should consider yourself lucky. Those things are overheating so much because the morons who designed the bodykits didn't leave any room for the grilles."
However, Mark Ildest, owner of the #149 Xenos driven by 12th-place finisher Gary DeSouza, disputed Monroe's claims.
"We had no temperature problems at all. I'd say some engine builder at M&J needs to be fired instead." Said Ildest.

Scott was able to navigate the #33 Aeroscopic Lenard through multiple wrecks to finish just outside of the Top 10 after taking the checkered flag in the 11th position.
