2016 Cleveland Grand Prix Qualifying Procedures

185 cars are on the preliminary entry list for the Cup Series.
63 cars are on the preliminary entry list for the Lites Series.
62 trucks are on the preliminary entry list for the Trucks Series.

Cup Series Procedures

Pole Qualifying

Five 30-minute sessions will be run, after which the top-10 fastest times will be pulled and set on the grid.

Qualifiers

Cars will be broken up into 5 groups, based on where they ended up time-wise in pole qualifying.  These groups will be known as Tier 1 through 5, with Tier 1 featuring the fastest cars and Tier 5 featuring the slowest cars.  From these 25-lap qualifiers, the top 6 from Tiers 1 through 5 will make the grid.

This will leave 40 cars set on the grid.

Tony Torgeson

Tony Torgeson won the NAAC Trihard 500, and thus has been granted a spot on the grid (41st).

Provisionals

The final four spots on the grid (42nd-45th) will be granted to the top drivers in points from each PCC Series (Cup, Lites, Trucks, Europe) who do not qualify through the methods mentioned above.

45 cars will start the PCC Cup Series race.

Lites Series Procedures

Pole Qualifying

Two 30-minute sessions will be run, after which the top-6 fastest times will be pulled and set on the grid.

Qualifiers

Cars will be broken up into 2 groups, based on where they ended up time-wise in pole qualifying.  These groups will be known as Tier 1 and Tier 2, with Tier 1 featuring the fastest cars and Tier 2 featuring the slowest cars.  From these 25-lap qualifiers, the top 12 from the Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be set on the grid.

This will leave 30 cars set on the grid.

Provisionals

If any of the six drivers who are eligible to win the championship fail to qualify through the methods stated above, they will be awarded a provisional at the back of the field.

Promotor's Options

If any or all of the championship-eligible drivers manage to race their way in, their spot at the back of the grid will instead be given to a Promoter's Option. This number could vary between zero and six drivers, depending on how many championship-eligible drivers qualify their way in either on time or through the qualifiers.

36 cars will start the PCC Lites Series race.

Trucks Series Procedures

Pole Qualifying

Two 30-minute sessions will be run, after which the top-6 fastest times will be pulled and set on the grid.

Qualifiers

Cars will be broken up into 2 groups, based on where they ended up time-wise in pole qualifying.  These groups will be known as Tier 1 and Tier 2, with Tier 1 featuring the fastest cars and Tier 2 featuring the slowest cars.  From these 25-lap qualifiers, the top 10 from the Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be set on the grid.

This will leave 26 cars set on the grid.

Provisionals

If either of the two drivers who are eligible to win the championship fail to qualify through the methods stated above, they will be awarded a provisional at the back of the field.
