[Syzygy]

Qualifying was split into two rounds. The first round, containing all cars, was 20 minutes in length. The second round, containing the top twenty drivers from the first round, lasted 10 minutes.

In the first round, Eun Yong Kim was turned by Salvatore Torregrossa on the front stretch. The 52 car slammed into the inside wall and shot back up in front of the 63 car of John Bracchi. Bracchi t-boned the side of the 52 car at 160 miles per hour entering Turn 1, destroying both cars. Bracchi's time was good enough to qualify and he will go to a backup car. Eun Yong Kim's time was not good enough to qualify to begin with, and the lack of a backup car forced the team to withdraw.
