New look for Indycars for 2018

This is the concept look of the car that the IndyCar Series will use starting next year. Thoughts on it?

Now THAT looks cool. But for the speedway configuration, where are the numbers that are normally on the wings going to be? (Unless they remove them altogether and only have them on the nose, but that seems dumb).

Prototypes from what i've heard look pretty fugly, so it's still in development hell. Also i understand the bumpers are supposed to be stay on from the superspeedways but are absent from the render. (Could mean ditched idea, could indicate that the render isn't the final product rather than the intention )NeverNeutral wrote:Where's the roof?
The car looks awesome, a shout to the old but with some new stuff to make its own product.

I totally dig the road course car. The speedway car looks kinda weird to me, without any rear attenuators or end plates on the rear wing. I think that'll take some getting used to, unless what Alta's saying is true about the bumpers still being worked on.

Yeah, it's kind looks like reincarnations of previous open wheel cars

My thoughts are essentially the same as Contey's; the rear of the speedway car will take a bit of getting used to if there won't be any attenuators, but that's hardly a problem. Overall I love the car! It actually looks a lot like a step-up version of the current Indy Lights car (which, of course, is exactly what it's supposed to look like).
I loved the original (2012-2014) DW12 aerokits, a lot more than most longtime AOWR fans from what I've read online. But this new kit looks clean, fast, and traditional. This will definitely be a welcomed change!

But you would think they would at least have it on there for the sake of safety and figure out aesthetics later. Unless it's just traditonalist "open wheels, open cockpits" nonsense as usual.Alta wrote:Prototypes from what i've heard look pretty fugly, so it's still in development hell.NeverNeutral wrote:Where's the roof?

It wouldn't make a difference. At best it would help kiling a driver in the case of a flip. If a piece of debris flies fast enough, and knowing how fast a indycar travels, it would tear through that shit like a bullet. The big debris isn't the problem, the small shrapnels are.

Part of me feels there's more too waiting on it/being wishy washy about then just "oh we're appealing to our homebase."NeverNeutral wrote:But you would think they would at least have it on there for the sake of safety and figure out aesthetics later. I could see many issues from it being not logistical on the current iteration of the car, i could see them waiting for the FIA to implement a solution into F1/etc. cause the series does seem to have money questions at times.
I think there's more too it than just some dudes in the facebook comment section being upset, but's my trying to figure out the more hard answer too it.
