Kensethfan's/Gone-sovereign's Art Gallery
Inspired by SpeedDemon's Drawings thread, I thought I'd set up here a thread for my artwork.
I do call myself an amateur graphic designer and digital artist, I've even had some of my artwork featured on Facebook pages. I'm planning on taking art classes in college to try and develop my current skill, because God knows I could use some techniques to speed my process along. In the meantime, this is what I have to show for, or at least the pieces I'm most proud of. Spoilered for convenience.
I might be adding to this once I've completed work that I want to show here.

- Digital Artwork:
- Most of my work is digital (some of it's themed around racing, some of it isn't), and I do try to take an illustrative direction with my artwork on this front. Here's a few examples of that. I use the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) for my digital work.
A Shipwreck In The Sand Pointilism -- November 2016
For my 2D Design class, we were assigned a project where we had to take an album cover and essentially do a pointilism painting of it. Naturally, I chose one of my favorite albums: Silverstein's A Shipwreck in the Sand.
I'll admit that I did kinda have to cheat on this though: While I did put down all of the points myself, the raw painting I had lacked some of the detail that I wanted (which I suppose I should have expected, it's a pointilism painting after all). To bring some of it back, I overlayed the original album cover on top of what I had. I swear it's really not that noticeable.
I did another pointilism painting like this using artwork from Corey Taylor's graphic novel, House of Gold & Bones, but people seem to prefer this piece.
My Only One -- November 2016
Most likely the most cliché art piece that I’ll ever do. It’s beside the point though, because I’m very happy with this. This art piece is loosely based on the song “Lines Full of Lies and a Thousand Roses” by the band Upon Beauty Rests. Originally I had wanted to do something a little more original with this; something that was more relevant to the actual title of the song it was based on. Then I realized I had no idea how I was going to do that once I’d gotten far enough into the project, so I just decided that I liked what I had and went with it. More than anything this was an exercise in shading.
Everything I’d actually drawn here was done completely free-hand. Of course I had reference to go by, but I didn’t outright trace anything.
Chase Elliott's NASCAR Challenge -- October 2016
The driver should be a pretty good indication as to what this in reference to -- It's a pretty blatant reference to the infamous "game over" screen from the 1991 NES title, Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge. You guys have my permission to use this whenever Chase is involved in a stupid wreck not of his own doing. :3
Ohio is For Lovers -- June 2016
Based on Hawthorne Heights' "Ohio Is For Lovers" (excuse me, my emo is showing). I did this to experiment with watercolor brushes and effects as well as typography. This isn't the most original thing in the world obviously, but I don't think I've seen anyone do this in particular for this song, popular as it is.
Dearest Love -- April 2016 - July 2016
This piece was an inconsistent effort between school, family occasions, graduation, wavering interest, and generally a lot of distractions. I could say a lot about this one, but for the sake of brevity, I'll just say I've always been intrigued by World War 1 because I found there's a certain poetic irony surrounding it. Two sources of inspiration for this one: The Alesana song, "Last Three Letters", and the film All Quiet on the Western Front (I was shown the 1979 made-for-TV version, but I am familiar with the 1930 film as well).
WORLD WAR W: Now Screening in IMAX 3D! -- August 2015
I'm sure everyone's familiar with the joke behind this one, as this image is not only the source of my avatar, but I've had the World War W gimmick going for about three years now. It actually refers back to a comment that Duff (F1V1 on here) made during the 2011 Daytona 500 on the old forums; the race where Waltrip spun his teammate and caused a pileup. From this, and the general consensus that Michael and Darrell are both plain terrible, I formulated the Waltrip Tag Team Duo of Death -- Michael slaughters the field, Darrell butchers the commentary. Together they hunt zombies, and they're ideal for it because neither one of them has a brain!
Look What You've Done -- December 2015 - January 2016
I don't think I've been too subtle about my fanaticism for the classic Mega Man franchise; this reinforces that. This piece in particular is based on the song "Look What You've Done" by the Megas, which in itself is based on the Wily Stage 1 theme of the first Mega Man game. For this piece, I traced over a sprite of Mega Man from the ending of Mega Man 7, and worked on top of it, adding details such as battle damage.
Polandball Map of Normandy Landings -- April 2016
I think it's safe to say the majority of you are familiar with Polandball, so I'll save the explanation. I've been known to use drawings of Polandball characters in my history presentations for school, and in this case I made this for a project in my War & American Society class about the invasion of Normandy (got a 98 on it largely because of this. ). I wasted most of my spring break on this for the sake of that project, and for that reason I never want to have to look at this again.
Feels Like Frostbite -- December 2015
Pyro, Ohio is a post-hardcore/metalcore band that Casey introduced to me. This piece is based on their song "Feels Like Frostbite". I experimented with line for this one, as I wanted it to have a sketchy, messy, grunge-type feel to it.
A Rumor of Skin -- July 2015
I think some of you are familiar with the alternative metal band Stone Sour, or at least know who Corey Taylor is (frontman on Slipknot, Stone Sour is his side project). This is based on the Stone Sour song "A Rumor of Skin" from the House of Gold & Bones double concept album, which in and of itself is based on a graphic novel that Corey Taylor wrote of the same name. This double concept album is one of my favorite albums, and this song is my absolute favorite. This piece in particular is referencing a scene early in the graphic novel, during the first meeting between the novel's anti-hero and the antagonist. "A Rumor of Skin" is a dialogue between these two characters.
Changing for the Rain -- August 2015
This is based on an unreleased song by the post-hardcore band Dear Whoever, called "Changing for the Rain". The song itself has a very moody feel to it, one that resonated very well with me for some reason, such that it's become one of my favorite songs. This is simply an illustration to go along with the song. Not much else to say about it honestly. This is a piece I would definitely go back and redo when I have time though.
- Drawings & Physical Work:
- Some of my sketchbook drawings, or other work that I'd done physically instead of digitally. Some of it comes from my Painting & Drawing class from my senior year of high school.
Atrophy -- January 2016 - February 2016
One such drawing from my Painting & Drawing class, the subject of focus being fear (because I'm afraid of living a routinary lifestyle down the line). Based on The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus song, “Atrophy”, though I have a feeling I might have misheard the song lyric I used here. Oh, well.
Stuck in '96 -- October 2015
Again, a piece I had done as part of a project in my Painting and Drawing class. The goal of the project was to do a reinterpretation of "lost" things, so I chose to highlight the North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina, which in its current state much reflects the state it was left in when it was closed in 1996, in addition to the impact nature has had in the years since.
Some Line Art -- November 2015
Sketchbook piece I'd just done out of boredom. Maybe it's a tad bit cliché, but at any rate I think it's interesting to look at.
Wait Until You See My Nephew -- April 2015
Piece based on Ayrton and Bruno Senna. To answer that prediction, Ayrton, yes, we did see Bruno, very clearly in the rear view mirror as he was putting around the back. What a shame.
I might be adding to this once I've completed work that I want to show here.

I'm very impressed, especially by your physical drawings (I would love to have the ability to draw open-wheel cars like those). Thanks for sharing these!

I've updated the original post to add a couple of more recent digital art pieces. This has been a pretty productive month for me, as far as getting art pieces done.

I have the feeling I'm gonna use this a lot in 2017.
