RJ Bandsma Motorsports Purchased by Rick Jarrett Racing
In a surprise announcement, Rick Jarrett Racing has formally announced the purchase of RJ Bandsma Motorsports. Team owner, Rick Jarrett, told reporters, "We are looking at starting up our own engine program and we think that the purchase puts us much closer to that goal. We also feel like the lower-tiers are an excellent was to test our up-and-coming development drivers and we plan on taking full advantage of that."
Rick Jarrett Racing has been in a technical alliance with Watts Motorsports since 2008, and there was speculation that either Watts or RJR was changing manufacturers, which would effectively end the partnership. Those rumors have come back after this latest move.
There is no word on what will happen with former RBM drivers, RJ Bandsma and Randy Timberwolf; however, replacement drivers have been named. Brothers, Randall and Robert Barnett will take over driving duties. Car #09, previously driven by Randy Timberwolf, will be driven by Randall, but will be renumbered #67, and will supposedly be sponsored by FedEx. Meanwhile, car #068, will be renumbered #37 with Robert taking over. NOS will stay on the car as its primary sponsor.
Bandsma and Timberwolf were not available to comment.
