I'm amazed that we're almost halfway in and there's no caution yet. Too bad for TK. Hopefully Marco can pull it off.

Still caution free (so far) after 125 laps. How these drivers have been able to do this is beyond me.

125 laps and no cautions. Could we go the rest of the race...

I actually enjoyed the fact that there were no cautions. It really made the strategies come into play, & there was good racing. Just hope it stays that way, & doesn't turn into a wreckfest from here on out.

Not a smart move on Plowman's part. Feel for Josef.

REALLY smart of those drivers going 3-wide into turn 1.

Going 3-wide at Indy for an IndyCar doesn't work. Hinch should have been smart enough to know that, but tough break for him and Carpenter.

Racing incident that really. Last fifth of the race, everyone's just desperate to make positions, & Hinch and Carpenter came out of it worst

GREAT job by Townsend to get away from that.

I know that feel. Honestly, that was just a Racing deal in my opinion, when it gets late in the race desperate people start doing desperate things, and these kind of things can happen.

Great job wrecking two of the best cars too.
Hunter-Reay's onboard shown it all, Bell turned down on Carpenter, they made contact, Carpenter went down into Hinch. All Townsend Bell...
He even said it himself; "Shit, we were three wide?" What a moron.

Honestly, as the driver on the outside, you wouldn't know unless you're spotter says it's 3 wide, which Bell's spotter clearly didn't inform him about.

Townsend Bell isn't the best for spatial awareness. But yeah, his spotter not being useless would have been a huge help there as well.

Dammit. I like Ryan, but I was REALLY hoping Helio would make it four. At least it wasn't Marco.

Re: The 2014 Indy 500
Yeah, this was SuperSpecialAwesome racing at it's finest. Longest green flag run to start the 500, lots of strategery, and we actually got an awesome finish to the 500. Also, kudos to IndyCar for putting out the red flag and allowing the fans to get what they paid good money for. Major props for that. And congrats to Hunter-Reay on a good win.
This race was just as good as last year's running, except this time, we got one helluva finish to complete the package. And last year's race got a perfect score from me, so you're damn right this race will get the same thing. And great job, Kurt Busch, for a well-deserved 6th place run.
The 2014 Indianapolis 500 is well-deserving of a perfect 10/10. Well done, IndyCar.

Awards:
Bad Driving Award: James Hinchcliffe makes it 3 wide when there was no way that would work, takes himself out of the race
I Got Screwed Award: Ed Carpenter wrecks due to Hinchcliffe's aforementioned stupidity
Special Award:
How the Hell Did That Work Award (given to the driver who pulls off a move that could have easily ended in a Bad Driving Award): Ryan Hunter-Reay's insane almost-driving-into-the-grass dive bomb
On another note, I suppose you would rather see 2 cars finish on the lead lap, 10 seconds apart, than see a phantom debris caution provide an exciting if somewhat fake finish.

Carpenter slid up wide and there was plenty of space on the inside for Hinchcliffe to dive underneath him.

Kurt Busch is unofficially in 23rd in points in IndyCar, ahead of Graham Rahal, who has run every IndyCar race this season.

Re: The 2014 Indy 500
My thoughts on the race:
-Having watched this race for more than 20 years (nevermind that I don't really remember anything about it when I was 4, lol) I was a bit teary eyed when Jim Nabors came up and sang for the last time. But when they let him give the command alongside Mari Hulman George, I lost it. I fucking cried. Nobody besides the Hulman family has ever given the command since they started doing it. Letting Jim join in is probably the biggest honor and classiest thing they could possibly have done for him. That alone was enough to make this race memorable for me.
-A 150 lap green flag run? That was cool to see. I knew it wouldn't last, because it's Indy, and Indy doesn't forgive mistakes, but it was cool nonetheless. It's so rare to get long stretches of racing anymore
-For the most part, every incident was fairly tame, which is good. Too many times recently have drivers left Indy injured. Very nice to see everyone unscathed at the end of the race this year.
-At the end I was cheering for Curse and Helio. I can't imagine the frustration Helio is going through. He fought so damn hard for that win, and it would have meant so much. The side by side view I saw of Hunter-Reay celebrating and Helio sitting with his head in his hands is going to be on the highlight reel for decades to come.
