Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama @ Barber Motorsports Park
The IndyCar Series has it's last race before everyone heads to Indianapolis for month of racing in May. Will Power holds a 27 point lead over Mike Conway. However, Conway is not running the full schedule, which adds more intrigue to the field. The rookies have also done well, with Carlos Munoz and Mikhail Aleshin both in the top 10 in points right now. The question is, who will capture the win at Barber, and who will walk out on top of the points.
Will Power won the pole for the race today, scoring him an advantage for tomorrow's race, for which coverage starts at 2:30 PM ET.

Well after a 3-hour rain delay, the race was wet at first then it dried up with RHR in victory lane after 15 laps into the race, Will Power made a crucial mistake in turn 4, ran wide, and fell back since. Good racing overall, IMO.
BTW, it was a timed race at an hour and 40 minutes.

Okay race. Power's goof ended up giving the race to Hunter-Reay.
Was messy in the middle portion but calmed down at the end.

Too many wrecks to get much racing momentum, but the racing was good when it was there. I'm still surprised Power made that mistake.

If I were Power, watching that replay would be a punch in the gut.
I thought it was a good race, and Barber is a fantastic track. The fast chicane is a great turn, and most of the rest of the track has great racing.

Almost all US road courses are excellent, maybe ironically the best in the world.

Honestly, with the rain making things slick out there, I thought the race would be, well, more entertaining. But, as is normally the case with Barber, it was a pretty bland race for the most part. Yeah, we had Sato spinning on Lap 1 and Will Power with an unusual mistake which handed the win to Hunter-Reay on silver platter, but other than that, the race was pretty... meh.
Got to admit, the beginning of the IndyCar season has been a little underwhelming, while the Sprint Cup Series has surprised us with extremely solid racing. The month of May, however, is IndyCar's chance to pull even with NASCAR, and they better take advantage of it.
The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama gets a 3.5/10.
