2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
Time to grow them playoff beards
The NHL playoffs starts Wednesday. Here are your Matchups
Eastern Conference
(A1) Boston VS (WC2) Detroit
(A2) Tampa Bay VS (A3) Montreal
(M1) Pittsburgh VS (WC1) Columbus
(M2) New York Rangers VS (M3) Philadelphia
Western Conference
(C1) Colorado VS (WC1) Minnesota
(C2) St. Louis VS (C3) Chicago (2013 Champs)
(P1) Anaheim VS (WC2) Dallas
(P2) San Jose VS (P3) Los Angeles
So? Who you got? Who has the talent and the perseverance to win the Stanley Cup?
My Pick : Colorado VS Pittsburgh (Colorado wins 4-2)
Hopefully my Habs get pass the first round and do a repeat of 2009

Bruins.
Though I'm also pulling for the Blue Jackets to knock off the Pens.

Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
Hoping the Blackhawks go two straight but I'm not so sure that will happen. Colorado is looking pretty tough. Pretty sure neither LA or San Jose will win it because whoever wins that matchup will probably be awfully beaten up for the next round...
I find myself in the interesting position of actively wanting Detroit to take out the Bruins. As F1V1 can attest, I take a certain amount of joy in watching Detroit (and Vancouver, but that's for a different reason*) get their ass kicked, but I'm not really the biggest Bruins fan...
Why are we friends?
I think the only people not wanting that to happen would be the Pens. I couldn't be mad if Columbus won the Cup/the world imploded, because two years ago, I think the least athletic people on this forum (myself included) could have done a better job than Columbus did...
* A friend of mine is a Vancouver Canucks fan, and I love giving him shit whenever the Canucks suck ... so I've had a lot of fun this year.

The Buffalo Sabres suck so much they didn't even win the draft lottery.
Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
Columbus looked strong early last night, but they kind of fell apart near the end. Hopefully it was just playoff jitters (seeing as it was their first post-season game in 5 years!) and they'll have it shaken off by Saturday.
Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
There is no joy in Fatmanland, his Devils sucked too much and did not make the playoffs. As long as Boston or Pittsburgh don't win the Cup, I can be content.

Red Wings win. Caught the final 5 and a half minutes. That was awesome.
Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
Columbus won their first ever playoff game in franchise history in 2OT over the Penguins last night, they move to Columbus for the next two games of the series. I was considering getting a ticket for tomorrow night's game, but the cheapest I could find was $60...
Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
Matt Cooke intentionally Knee-on-Knees a Avalance D-Man. D-Man out of the game and maybe longer. Wild win in overtime.
This is why no one likes you Matt Cooke.

Probably the best game in the history of the Franchise. That game was why there is nothing better than Playoff Hockey.

Montreal VS Boston (I went to high school with Torey Krug)
Pittsburgh VS NY Rangers (I hate the Pens, but I don't mind the Rangers. NYR it is)
Minnesota (Not allowed to root for Chicago) VS Chicago
Los Angeles VS Anaheim (I can't stand LA fans, but I can't stand Corey Perry. It's a draw of two terrible teams/fanbases.)

Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
Easy to win the Cup when you're playing 10 vs 6 the entire series. Those 3 overtime wins for the Kings came with A LOT of help from the referees. The way I see it, the series ends Refs 3, Kings 1, Rangers 1.
Good championship referees.

Re: 2014 NHL Playoffs thread!
The Stanley Cup returns to Vancouver Island, I'm ok with this. It's a shame that that was probably the closest that King Henrik will ever get to the cup. It's been a fun ride, can't wait for it all to start again.

No offence Tom, but the rangers had 2 PP in OT, Rangers mostly lost cause they couldn't hold a lead, Your team needs some working to beat the west, same for anyone in the east. Same goes for my Habs

I have a reply to this on Facebook, but I'll post it here for those who are not friends with me on there (either by choice or because I blocked you for being stupid!)
In spite of the horrible officiating that went on the entire series and the constant feeling of the Rangers playing 4 men down (10 vs 6), the three games they lost in overtime in LA could have gone either way. Yes, there were awful calls made that killed the Rangers, but what killed them just as much was their unwillingness to play aggressively in the 3rd periods. If you were paying attention to each 3rd period in LA, the Rangers got heavily outshot and heavily outplayed, losing leads in the process. Had there been more urgency to put the game away, perhaps we'd be talking about Rangers in 5 and planning a parade, or at least heading back to MSG for game 6. Still, this was one of the best Stanley Cup Finals of recent memory. Lots of exciting action, lots of back and forth, and in the end, the bad guys still won.
