I actually remembered that Ragan was unusually fast in practice at Bristol last fall, but only now did I learn that he was the fastest in practice!Alta wrote:26 34 David Ragan Ford Dockside Logistics Bob Jenkins 31 3

Maybe Front Row can get another top 10 this weekend. Ragan did finish 12th in that race, granted there were some large crashes near the end.

Look at the bright side, at least it isn't like 1993, when snow postponed the Atlanta race

Timmy Hill is the Dennis Vitolo of NASCAR. I could have done a better job at avoiding that.
Also, Cole Whitt just wrecked himself. In no way is that Danica's fault, even though blaming Danica is the popular thing to do.

EDIT: Kenseth has gone from 30th to 24th since the restart. This better mean he's still got something.

On an unrelated note, why does the FOX team keep calling the second-tier series the "Nationwide In-surance race"?

Hey, I might emphasize my own username in this context. Though I admit that move was a lot like something I would have done online in NR2003.
It still sucks that we've been screwed over by a backmarker. Stick to start-and-parking and iRacing, Timmy.

Its so weird seeing the stands for a Cup race at Bristol be those similar to a lower tier series.

Re: 2014 Food City 500 - Sprint Cup Series
The caution was either for the caution light malfunction or the rain, but it wouldn't have mattered because it started pouring soon after. I don't know what to think of that, mostly because I was listening to the radio broadcast and they weren't saying it started raining until just about a minute after the caution came out...
On that note, one of the commentators said that the conspiracy theorists are gonna have a field day. I couldn't have said it better.
Also, first four races with four different winners? I like that. Now if we can just get a first time winner into victory lane.
Or Kenseth, because that works too... [/fanboy]

NASCAR never said anything over the radio about the caution coming out when the caution lights went on, though, so I'm inclined to believe that was the actual problem. And from as far as I can tell, rain was out of the question at that point. If it weren't for the caution lights, I think they could've made it the last 30 seconds.
It's certainly unusual though that the caution lights would come on then and there without an explanation, though. But it's also happened before at Vegas, just much earlier in the race. I don't think there was any sort of conspiracy at play here.

Definitely a weird ass race, this one was. Shenanigans on pit road, rain rain rain, guys you normally don't see at the front of the field, and the caution lights coming on with two laps to go... with no explanation why. Yep, we're at Bristol.
Good win for Carl, and he needed it badly. It's been quite a while since he last won a Cup race. Good runs by Stenhouse and Almirola.
The 2014 Food City 500 @ Bristol gets a 7.0/10. The rain delay sucked, and there were some parts that were kind of meh, but overall, this was a pretty solid race. Bristol seems to be the only track to put on good shows consistently right now. That and Phoenix. And the roadies.
Next race is.... California. Oh, budday. Is this race gonna go back to the shitastic racing its known for, or will it surprise us like last year's race did?

It sucks for Kenseth, Harvick, Truex, Stenhouse and Almirola, though.
Kenseth got nailed by a backmarker, got sent all the way back to 30th, worked his way back to the lead, only to hit the wall in the late stages while leading and finished 13th. For both Harvick and Truex, that's the second mechanical problem they've had all year. And had Mother Nature held out long enough to get us to a green-white-checkered, we might have seen either Stenhouse or Almirola as a first time winner.
Good win, Edwards. You were running away with it on that last run; you deserved it.

According to NASCAR, there is a manual override switch on the flagstand at the track that, if the flagman sees a reason to hit it, will turn some of the track caution lights on. NASCAR says that this switch was hit, and then the flagman noticed it and waved the yellow. It is unknown who actually hit the button though.

After a $hit 2013, Ambrose has his first top 5 since the 2012 Bristol night race funnily enough. Bristol is the only oval where he has multiple top 5's. Could be a chance in the fall race. In the a pretty god day for RPM, Almirola gets his career best finish of 3rd.
