ROTY eligibility to change Empty ROTY eligibility to change

FARC executives have announced changes to how the Apex Racing School Rookie of the Year award will be fought for in the FARC Elite Series Powered by Smash Beer in 2014.

In years past, the Rookie of the Year was determined by whichever rookie was highest in the standings at the end of the season. Jim Hayes claimed the award in 2013 when he capitalized on Andrea Kinasa, his main rival, failing to qualify for the Rockford 200. This year, the award will go to the rookie with the best average finish.

Teams that have declared an intention to compete for ROTY must start at least 14 of the 52 scheduled points races to maintain eligibility, a rule that is likely in place to prevent drivers from showing up to one race, finishing well, and sitting on that for the rest of the year. Drivers are also required to attempt the Apex Racing School Rookie Shootout, which will count towards the ROTY battle, in order to remain eligible for the award.

Drivers who are sharing a car in a joint championship are now eligible for the award if they meet the criteria.
