Re: Denny Hamlin fined for Gen6 criticism
That's honestly the stupidest penalty I have ever seen, because he's actually given them some, oh, constructive criticism!!!
He even offers a reasonable solution, so the "he's just bitching" argument doesn't even hold water!
Denny Hamlin wrote:It's frustrating because you can catch a guy, you just can't pass him. Once you get in his wake, there's just no getting around him. That's just something that's a byproduct of a new car that we really haven't developed all that much. A very, very hard tire from Goodyear – especially on the left side. We've got to get that softer. Once we do that, you'll have some tire wear and overtaking like there's supposed to be

Honestly, if this happened 20 years ago would Bill France Junior care? (idk since I started watching in 05) It's like Brian is a power-hungry man... since he took over NASCAR has declined
2 Examples :
1. Won't change back to the old championship format, even when hardly anyone likes the chase
2. Stupid Fines & penalties (Carl Long at Charlotte 2009)

And this is why F1 is the attractive option right now. Sure it's leadership is corrupt, but I don't think they would do this.

2. Stupid Fines & penalties (Carl Long at Charlotte 2009)
So you think NASCAR should reward repeat offenders, by letting them off easier?

oh? i did not know that... but the point is they just put out stupid penalties (like Hamlin)
Re: Denny Hamlin fined for Gen6 criticism
I guess so, since everyone knows that small teams are always screwed over by NASCAR, and never do anything wrong...Mother of Invention wrote:2. Stupid Fines & penalties (Carl Long at Charlotte 2009)

And this is why I've been looking more forward to other series like F1 and IndyCar than NASCAR. Take a hint!

Apparently some "Fans" use that penalty as an excuse to bash NASCAR yet, He has actually had a history of doin stuff and NASCAR probably had some Justification in giving some form of a stiff penalty. (I dont agree with he monetary fine they gave him, but yeah....)

Bernie is too rich to care. F1 people are also way different than NASCAR people -- they don't care about driver opinions or if an important figure slams the administration. F1 people understand, most of the time, that the product is paramount over silly things like that.

There's a legitimate penalty, and then there is a meaningless penalty. Say we have a team using an illegal part to cheat (assuming that we are talking about a part that the team in question has the ability to play around with, because a lot of NASCAR's spec parts these days can't be messed with), and then that part failing them early in the race and resulting in them finishing last... it almost doesn't matter in that case. A fine is fair, but not a draconian fine, because while yes, the team is cheating, whatever they have that is illegal isn't doing them any good... that is my issue with Carl Long's penalty.
Honestly, has Carl Long ever cheated and made an impact in a race because he was cheating? When I say make an impact, I mean him actually beating someone on speed alone, not because they crashed, botched a pit stop, etcetera...
His All-Star penalty was just insane, because he had an oversized engine, and he was the first car to drop out of the Open ... because the engine failed!!! A proper penalty would be to just strip him of whatever prize money he would have gotten, remove all points he would have earned, drop him to last place in the results (assuming he wasn't already last) and leave it at that.
In other words, pointless penalty is pointless.
Re: Denny Hamlin fined for Gen6 criticism
NASCAR is corrupt, run-down and pretty much won't let the drivers say anything against them. Much like the USA today, excluding the last part.

Actually my post was not as much about the actual penalty, (I think it should have been handled differently), But rather,my post was directed at those annoying "Conspiracy Theorist" fans who claim NASCAR wanted to rid themselves of the small teams, without even researching and finding that Carl had prior issues with NASCAR inspectors.

And now Denny is saying he WON'T pay the fine.
This ought to get fun...
And NASCAR should learn that.

Re: Denny Hamlin fined for Gen6 criticism
This reminds me of the Spring Bristol race in 2007 that ran the first race with the COT (ironically this race was held on my 10th birthday). Kyle Busch who won that race had his interview in victory lane saying and I quote, "I can't stand to drive them, they suck." Didn't he get into trouble for saying that?
Re: Denny Hamlin fined for Gen6 criticism
There are so many words describing this fine:
Blasphemous, atrocious, stupid, pathetic, ridiculous, embarrassing, just completely agonizing by NASCAR's part. They're just too stubborn to hear the real truth.

The comments section on NASCAR.com for the article is "down for maintenance". 5 bucks says NASCAR shut things down because they were getting justifiably slammed.

I almost feel bad that I'm sort of supporting NASCAR by going to MIS this year, this whole situation is beyond ridiculous. Kudos to Denny for not paying the fine!

Someone commented that statement on the link, which would be 100% true.

If I had a penny for every American that didn't understand the first amendment I'd probably be able to buy Forumotion ten times over.

The first amendment does not apply to private organizations, who can regulate what is acceptable speech at will.
Re: Denny Hamlin fined for Gen6 criticism
Bumping this because Hamlin dropped the appeal. However, he is not paying the fine, so NASCAR will just take the $25,000 out of his race winnings at a race, most likely this weekend at Bristol.
