The problem is, the ref didn't know. Rules are rules. I agree with the refs desicion.

Plus the refs knew that someone would probably be offended by a heavenly gesture, ans possibly sue the school and/or organizations sponsoring or hosting the game, they were covering their butts.

Rules or not, Religious or not, a tribute to a fallen friend does not deserve a penalty, Did they slam Gordon with a penalty when he did the missing man formation after Dale died? No. So why should it be any different in high school sports, of any kind.

Because people have become so politically correct you cannot say anything without someone being offended, plus, many fans of NASCAR understood the meaning of the Missing Man formation, the refs however did not until after the fact.

This happens all the time, especially in high school football. Penalty was not called for, but like others said, you can't even say "Christmas" without people being "offended". Oh well...

AMEN. quite frankly i wouldnt care if a fallen friend was muslim and they did one of their gestures. Give the guy a break, a dead guy is a dead guy, and its what is done afterwards that the memories are kept in people

Gavin Lovejoy...I've Met that guy. He lives across the street from my grandmother. His family is friends with my Aunt's family.
Louisville, OH...I've never lived there but that's where my family is from.
I heard about this story from my cousin and it really is sad. They were tributing a fallen friend, and that is nothing worth punishment.

Exactly how I feel about it. Keep your invisible friends/"supreme beings" and all that to yourselves.

Muslims worship the same god that Christians do, for the record.
