So the 18 gets off with just a probation for something that happened in practice, but the 27 gets 6 points off?

The penalty is apparently for, from what I can understand, making illegal changes to the car after the car had gone through and passed inspection, and that's why the penalties are so severe.

The fuuuuuuuuu-??? By that logic anyone who's ever failed a post-race inspection ever should have that much of a penalty. And even this year they haven't.

Don't forget, this is NASCAR we're talking about. Most of the things they do don't make any sense whatsoever.

Because the drivers that are locked into each race are determined by owner's points.

^This. Though this year it's kind of pointless since there's nearly a 2-race gap between 35th and 36th.RyanB06 wrote:bartman97 wrote:NASCAR, putting owner points as a punishment as always, why?????

They penalized it because it passed every other inspection, and then failed post race inspection to the point of needing a 25 point penalty. In this case, everything passed in pre race inspection, but in post race inspection, the frame rails did not. Menard did not have as serious wreck in the Cup race, and he didn't have any serious mechanical problems during the race, so NASCAR take that out of the possible reasons, so they sent it to the R&D center, where they found that the car had been in violation of rule 12-4K, which is the following:
Race equipment that has been previously certified or previously approved by NASCAR for use in an event, pursuant to sub-section 8-12, has been altered, modified, repaired or changed in any manner.
Therefore a large penalty was handed out to the team.
