CRL unveils points system for Developmental Division's Darlington sprint race
In December, the CRL unveiled the schedules for both the Modified and Developmental Divisions. In October, both series will make their way to Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. The Developmental Division's race at the track, the 13th of 15 on their calendar, will only be 19 laps, as it will be held 90 minutes before the Modified Division's race at The Lady in Black.
Due to the race's short length, a different points system will be used. As with the points system that will regularly be used in the Developmental Division, only the Top 12 will receive points. For the Darlington race, the winner will receive 12 points, second place 11 points, third place 10 points, and so on, until the 12th place finisher receives one point. No bonus points will be awarded.
CRL officials say that using a different system for the much shorter Darlington race is fair, because they don't want a race that could take less than 15 minutes without a yellow to cost someone a shot at the championship, which will be decided in late October at Manhattan Raceway Stadium in New York.
Meanwhile, both divisions are at Irwindale Speedway in California to open up their 2012 seasons. Track activity begins on Friday morning with Developmental Division practice.
