Well, it's that time of year again. The 2011 season is coming to a close. So, I thought i bring back something I think I did last year. Basically, I'll post a couple of topic and you guys pick what moment from what motorsport fits it. Feel free to add your own topics.

Driver of the Year: Trevor Bayne. Why? How many 20 years olds have won the Daytona 500? Bayne may not have won a lot of races or a championship. But he gets my vote for not just the 500 win, but for outrunning Carl at Texas. (I know not probably a good pick but it's what I think.)

Performance of the Year (single driver in single event): Tony Stewart in the Ford 400. From the back to the front to the back to the front to victory lane.

Biggest Upset of the Year: Dan Wheldon in the Indy 500. Where the hell did he come from?!

Biggest Surprise of the Year: (No offense to those who like him) Brad Keselowski. 3 wins including one at Pocono with a broken ankle and finishing 5th in the final points standing. Not bad for you 2nd full time cup season.

Disappointment of the Year: Jamie McMurray. From the high of winning 3 races last year, two of which being the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 to going winless and off the radar.

Heartbreak of the Year: Tie. Carl Edwards and Will Power. Edwards, to lose the championship on a tie breaker even with a better average finish. And Power, to have a shot and have it taken away late in the season and being involved in what happened at Vegas.

Race of the Year: Tie. The Ford 400 and the Watkins Glen NASCAR race. Two great races that came down to the end.

Crash of the Year: David Ragan and David Reutinmann at Watkins Glen. Has to be the hardest hit of the year easy.

Driver of the Year: Sebastian Vettel - His performance in Formula 1, as you all know, has been fantastic. He's already confirmed champion, and has absolutely dominated. He will be as good, maybe even better than Schumacher.
Performance of the Year (single driver in single event): Regan Smith at Darlington - He had one of the worst cars on the field, and converted that into a win at Darlington - The oval that requires driver talent more than any.
Biggest Upset of the Year: Dan Wheldon at Indianapolis - In a Bryan Herta car, Dan makes advantage of JR Hildebrand's massive error and wins his 2nd Indy 500. He came out of nowhere to win it, and frankly, he deserved it.
Biggest Surprise of the Year: Ricky Stenhouse - No-one would have called Ricky Stenhouse wins the 2011 Nationwide Title. It was a surprise, but not a good one. It was the car entirely that won him the title. He's a HACK.
Disappointment of the Year: Jamie McMurray/Jeff Burton/David Ragan - Jamic Mac had an awful season in 2011, primarily because of the teams lack to realize that JPM isn't the only driver on that team, but if Ganassi focuses on NASCAR more than Indy, he'll be back in winning form. Burton's been nowhere but the back until Talladega, and Ragan's just a disappointment in general.
Heartbreak of the Year: JR Hildebrand at Indy - Leading the Indy 500 on the final lap and crashing in the last turn, only to finish 2nd... That was the worst case scenario in any situation.
Race of the Year: Talladega Fall - 2 Car Tandem Packs?!?! Well, it provided some amazing racing, so I'm not complaining!
Crash of the Year: Simona De Silvestro at Indy - Having your car do a blowover at Indy in never a good thing... especially not into the catchfence. It was a miracle Simona got out with no injuries and still made the 500!

Sprint Cup:
Driver of the Year: Carl Edwards
Performance of the Year (single driver in single event): Regan Smith at Darlington
Biggest Upset of the Year: Dale Jr. making the chase ;L
Biggest Surprise of the Year: Jimmie not being competitive in the chase

sorry these are a little americanized. i have a tough time keeping up with all the other forms of motorsports out there.

Actually, Schumacher's done better than last year, and when the Mercedes was on the pace, he was quicker than Rosberg. He deserves to be there next year, but I can't see him go further than next year.

The guy who should have been retiring nine years and is now making his fifth comeback is Pedro de la Rosa.

Why didn't we all do that?

I think the category is a bit too vague and should be split into two groups. One would be Performance of the Year (Full Season), which is why I put Vettel. The other category would be Most Popular Driver, which would easily go to Dan.

Biggest Upset of the Year: Regan Smith at Darlington. I know a lot will say Trevor Bayne, but just about any bum with a decent car can win Daytona.

Heartbreak of the Year: Anybody who goes by any form of JR on the last lap of the Sunday Memorial Day races
