RON Pulls Out, Thompson To Finish Season
After the devastating explosion and subsequent oil spill that occurred from the RON Oil-operated Discoverer Frontier oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, it was announced that the company would be pulling all advertisements globally, effective immediately. This includes all forms of motorsports sponsorship, cutting off important cash inflow to Walker Texas Racing and Mark Thompson in their FARC Lowe Dollar Series championship bid.
However, this will not stop Thompson from running the final race of the season, the Oktoberfest Nationals. With his main source of funding gone, Thompson has reportedly been scrambling to gather sponsorship together to cover the bill. Thompson stated in a phone interview that he will self-fund his ride in the final FARC Lowe Dollar Series race of 2018 if enough outside sponsorship cannot be found. It is unknown what Thompson's motorsports plans are following the Oktoberfest Nationals, but it is likely that as a RON Oil executive, he will be involved in many of the court proceedings that will follow in the coming months.

Malone quits Lou Singer Racing after disappointing run
Confirming rumors reported during the race broadcast, Mike "Knuckles" Malone announced shortly after the C9 Antifreeze 99 that he has quit the Lou Singer Racing team, which he joined in his quest to win both the FARC Lowe Dollar Series and Super Series championships. While he managed to salvage a 5th place finish in points in the Super Series despite missing two races, moving from his self-owned team to replace Aaron Singer in the #11 Lowe Dollar Series entry failed to bear fruit. The ABQ Speedbowl winner failed to score any top 15 finishes during his 7 race stint with the team, with a best finish of 18th and failing to qualify at Talladega.
While he is mathematically eliminated from Lowe Dollar Series title contention, Malone is locked in to the semifinals of the Smash Beer Oktoberfest Nationals thanks to his win at Albuquerque. It is expected he will return to driving his own #5 car with backing from Milton's Mustard, who joined his team after that victory. This may be the final time Malone drives for his own team, as he is reportedly courting suitors to make another run at the Lowe Dollar Series title in 2019.
