2016 Austrian GP
The 9th round of the F1 season takes us to Austria's Osterreichring. The tire choices will be Ultrasoft, Supersoft, and Soft. Here are the headlines entering Austria.
Turmoil at Mercedes AMG Petronas?
Last race, I highlighted the fact that Nico Rosberg was knocked out of contention early by Lewis. However, Lewis had the Karma Police meet him at Baku (like my Radiohead reference? No, that is still great music). Apparently, Lewis likes being salty. He constantly complained all race about his car.
Baku, Good Maiden Race
In my opinion, the race at Baku was better than expected. There was no major accidents. The only screw up during the race was Felipe Nasr hitting the wall. Other than that, it was a very clean, very good race.
Sergio Perez Claims Another Podium
For the second time in 3 races, Sergio Perez claimed a podium in the Force India. However, if it was not for a grid spot penalty, he may have won the race. It seems that Sahara Force India could be a team that could make a charge late in the year to climb up the Constructors Championship.
Who are the Back Markers?
Baku showed something that most people did not expect. For the first time in a long time, Manor were not the slowest cars on the track. Manor and Sauber almost scored points at this race. Wehrlein peaked in P8 and Felipe Nasr almost hit the board in P12.

No way, there's no corners for the Red Bull to actually stand a chance. It'll be another Mercedes cakewalk.

Lewis Hamilton will receive at least 1 possibly 2 10-Spot grid penalties for exceeding several car specifications maximums. Lewis will be given the option to what race(s) he take the grid spot penalty(ies).
Vettel will be given a 5-Spot grid penalty for a gearbox change.

Continuing to just give Rosberg the championship.

"Give Rosberg the championship"
Please. Hamilton's still within a race of Rosberg, with 12 still to run. He had more things go wrong in 2014 and still took the title with ease.

Hamilton Captures Pole During a Rain Hit Session
After a rain hit qualifying, Lewis Hamilton took the pole with a Q3 time of 1:07.922. Daniil Kvyat crashed during Q1 and is expected to start from the pit lane. Here is the starting lineup for the Austrian GP:
Row 1: Hamilton(?10-Spot Grid Penalty?) - Rosberg (5-Spot Grid Penalty, will start 7th)
Row 2: Hulkenburg - Vettel (5-Spot Grid Penalty, will start 9th)
Row 3: Button - Raikkonen
Row 4: Riccardo - Bottas
Row 5: Verstappen - Massa
Row 6: Gutierrez - Wehrlein
Row 7: Grosjean - Alonso
Row 8: Sainz - Perez
Row 9: Magnussen - Palmer
Row 10: Haryanto - Kvyat
Row 11: Ericsson - Nasr
The top 3 starters will be Hamilton, Hulkenburg, and Button. Very surprising row 6 with Gutierrez and Wehrlein.

Re: 2016 Austrian GP
That was awfully interesting. Can't believe Wehrlein got a point, but it's obvious that he's better than Haryanto's moolah. Unfortunately, it came at Sergio's expense.

Re: 2016 Austrian GP
- Winners of the Austrian GP:
- Lewis Hamilton: Race Winner
Max Verstappen: Podium for you, great job to finish 2nd
Jenson Button: 6th place after a top 5 qualifying effort
Romain Grosjean: Very quiet, very good 7th place
Pascal Wehrlein: 10th place, first career points for you
- Losers of the Austrian GP:
- Not Being Destructive: Mercedes tried to pull another Spain
Nico Hulkenburg: Threw away that front row start ay Nico
Brakes: Lots and lots of brake dust flying
Sebastian Vettel: Tough break with a tire failure
Williams: I thought this was a great track for you guys? Only 2 points to show

Re: 2016 Austrian GP
Rosberg HAS TO be punished by the FIA. Brake issues or not, you cannot tell me that wasn't intentional. Especially when Hamilton gave all the room in the world for Rosberg.

Just received this, Nico Rosberg was given a 10 second time penalty, however, the penalty doesn't change where he finished.

Re: 2016 Austrian GP
I was hoping Rosberg would run Hamilton out of road on the exit of 2, but, well, you have to at least attempt to make the corner first to make that work... this kind of thing is why I stopped supporting Rosberg last year. Guy just does not seem to be learning from his battles.

I feel like Robert vs Hamilton would be the next Senna vs Prost after this race.

They said that back in 2014. They were dead wrong then, and that's not gonna change now. Before anything else, Rosberg just isn't good enough.

Re: 2016 Austrian GP
I have a hard time buying it was intentional, dumb? (especially when Hamilton didn't have the preferred line) yes, penalty-warranting? yes, intentional? I don't buy it because of the doubts with the brakes and the fact that was his teammate.
Race was boring till the last 10 laps when the battles starting kicking off. Wehrelin with points, awesome for the dude....he's been hot this year.

Re: 2016 Austrian GP
You can see pretty clearly here, Rosberg doesn't start turning until it's far, far too late to make the apex. Brake issue or not, that decision to not even attempt to turn until that point was entirely on him.
As for the race, I thought it was pretty great tbh, cars running out of position almost all race
