Not the first time any BTCC driver could be imprisoned, ex-racer Russell Spence was jailed for 13 months in November 2011 for an apparent car-wash related fraud.

Wow. Just...Wow.  A driver who thought would have been a potential champion is probably never going to get this chance again, very careless for a touring car driver though.

As a cyclist, I want the worst for him. Seriously, nothing pisses me off more than idiots who talk on their phones when driving. It shows a ridiculous lack of respect for the safety of others.

If that happened in the US, with the same degree of evidence and all, a good lawyer could probably get him out of it with probation or perhaps a 6 month jail sentance.

And this is why I prefer the UK justice system. There is no way he should avoid jail time. I liked Wrathall, but there is no excuse for it. What a fool.

Very stupid of him, not sure he deserves too serious a sentence but nonetheless he doesn't deserve any less.

It's one thing if you are out on the open highway with little traffic around.

But with people that could be around?!? That type of situation?!?

Whatever he gets, he deserves it.

He doesn't deserve to race in the BTCC, honestly. I know half the time it's a wreckfest, but if you can't be careful on the public roads then you shouldn't be a race car driver.

I agree with PYL on this one, he deserves what's coming to him.

Bumping this thread for BREAKING NEWS:

Frank Wrathall has been sentenced to 21 months in Prison after pleading guilty to Careless Driving, when he killed a cyclist while driving a van on the phone to his girlfriend on the 3rd of May, 2012.

Wow. He pleaded guilty as well. Had he not pleaded guilty, the sentence would have been worse.

I'm glad it turned out this way, though.
