2014 Chili Bowl Empty 2014 Chili Bowl

Post by flyingturns89 Tue Jan 14, 2014 5:26 am

One of the most well known dirt races in America is the Chili Bowl. Some of the biggest names in racing have been in this race, including two time winner Tony Stewart, NASCAR drivers Andy Hillenburg and Dave Blaney, open wheel driver Billy Boat, and dirt legend Sammy Swindell. However, the last four years have been dominated by one man, Swindell's son Kevin. Before the younger Swindell came along, no one had ever won the Chili Bowl in consecutive years. Kevin Swindell has now won four times in a row, one away from tying his dad. The question is, is this the year someone knocks the Swindell dynasty? Could it be a NASCAR driver, someone like Kasey Kahne, Kyle Larson, or even JJ Yeley. Well, with almost a full 300 entries, and only 24 spots in the Chili Bowl's A-Main, and no drivers locked in yet, it is still anyone's game.

Qualifying for this race is one of the toughest to go through for some drivers. Come race day half the field will have locked in, and everyone else has to drive as hard as they can. Qualifying starts with the drivers being split up into four groups, which run on separate days, starting Tuesday night. Every drivers runs hot laps to determine where they will start in the day's heat races. A driver's finishing position determines which qualifier they will be in, and then those races determine there positions in the day's Mains. The three finishers in each day's A-Main move on to the A Feature on Saturday. Everyone else will placed in a Saturday Main with a shot to race their in.

2014 Chili Bowl Empty Re: 2014 Chili Bowl

Post by RealRacer4 Sat Jan 18, 2014 8:27 pm

If you guys are looking for a live stream for the Chili Bowl, you're in luck! http://www.justin.tv/nascar49race

So to recap on what's happened, Oklahoma local Jonathan Beason won the first preliminary show last Tuesday, with Zach Daum and Alex Bright finishing 2nd and 3rd. The 3 drivers finishing in the top 3 puts them in the big show, with Kyle Larson, who finished 5th, ending up being put in the B-Main tonight.

Last Wednesday, Caleb Armstrong held off Sammy Swindell to win the 2nd preliminary feature race of the week. The only other driver to make it into the big show from the feature was Chris Windom.

In the 3rd preliminary feature race, Christopher Bell made a statement by winning the race, as Damion Gardner, the 2008 Chili Bowl winner, finishing 2nd and Michael Pickens 3rd.

In last night's final preliminary feature race, Bryan Clauson held off the field to win the race in what was a stacked field. Tim McCreadie, WoO Dirt Late Model regular, finished 2nd and The People's Champion, Dave Darland, finished 3rd to make it into the big show for tonight. A redraw was made for the 12 drivers that have made it into the Chili Bowl main event shortly after last night's feature and these are what the 1st 6 rows are looking like:

8-Tim McCreadie-47X
9-Chris Windom-3
10-Dave Darland-17R

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. started from the E-Main 2 and has managed to win both the E and D-Main 2 events. J.J. Yeley won D-Main 1 from the pole and will start 15th in C-Main 1.

The line-up for the Chili Bowl has been set. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was sitting in the final transfer spot in the 2nd C-Main event but ended up getting passed on the last lap of that race. J.J. Yeley, unlike Stenhouse, was able to make it past the 1st C-Main event but was unable to make it through the 1nd B-Main event. And of course, here's the line-up:

1-Caleb Armstrong--7C
2-Christopher Bell--97
3-Bryan Clauson--63...
4-Jonathan Beason--8J
5-Zach Daum--5D
6-Sammy Swindell--1
7-Damion Gardner--47
8-Tim McCreadie--47X
9-Chris Windom--3
10-Dave Darland--17R
11-Michael Pickens--63NZ
12-Alex Bright--77
13-Rico Abreu--67K
14-Kevin Swindell--39
15-Kyle Larson--71K
16-Danny Stratton--56L
17-Daryn Pittman--21
18-Chad Boat--15X
19-Alex Schutte--17K
20-Brad Loyet--05
21-Jerry Coons Jr--5
22-Tracy Hines--24
23-Thomas Meseraull--16
24-Kevin Ramey--7M

That feature race was awesome. I'm glad Bryan Clauson got the win. I think he most definitely deserves the win, unlike the Swindells. I was rooting for Kyle Larson to win the race, but of course, Sammy Swindell was being the idiot that he is by running into him and Larson ended up blowing up later in the race.

I'm really glad MAVTV broadcast the race live. I know that this year, they're doing a lot more tape-delayed races for the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series than last year and even some live broadcasts later this year. Hopefully, MAVTV will become popular enough where the channel will become available to everyone and have a lot of live broadcasts for races.

Oh yeah. Someone in the pits uploaded a video what happened between Shane Cottle and Brad Kuhn.

I love how they cut to Abreu and Larson watching the fight.
