So at the ARIAs (Australia Record Industry Awards) on Sunday, the best male Artist was a DJ, the winner of best album supposedly didn't even appear on the album, and the star of the show was from New Zealand.

In alphabetical order...
Artist: Alkaline Trio
Track The Torture Doctor
Album: My Shame Is True
Genre Pop Punk/Alternative
- Spoiler:
- Had to include a little Alkaline Trio in the mix. I was in love with this song when My Shame Is
True was released. Even though it kind of lost it's charm after the first couple of weeks (mostly because I
played the hell out of it), it was still one of my favorites this year.
Artist: A Lot Like Birds
Track: Kuroi Ledge
Album: No Place
Genre: Post-Hardcore
- Spoiler:
- This one is strange at first glance but listen to the entire album and you'll get a powerful listening
experience out of it. A Lot Like Birds is the band that former Dance Gavin Dance vocalist Kurt Travis
teamed up with a couple of years ago.
Artist: Anberlin
Track: Dead American
Album: Devotion: Vital V2
Genre: Alternative Rock
- Spoiler:
Artist: Battlecross
Track: Force Fed Lies
Album: War of Will
Genre: Melodic Death Metal,
- Spoiler:
Artist: Blessthefall
Track: Youngbloods
Album: Hollow Bodies
Genre: Metalcore
- Spoiler:
- Could get some hate for this one lel. These guys have never been my favorite, but they've steadily been
improving and this song is a good indication of that. Sick breakdown at 1:45
Artist: Born of Osiris
Track: Illusionist
Album: Tomorrow We Die Alive
Genre: Progressive Deathcore
- Spoiler:
- Some people had the nerve to label this one as "generic" although said people didn't have much to back up
their claim. Born of Osiris has earned a bad reputation lately, mostly stemming from Jason Richardson's
comments about them using cocaine and heroin before he departed to join Chelsea Grin. Whether or not this is
true isn't my business nor do I care, because I was really impressed with this album, especially Lee McKinney's work
on the guitar.
Artist: Children of Bodom
Track: Bodom Blue Moon
Album: Halo of Blood
Genre: Melodic Death/Black Metal
- Spoiler:
- MUTHAFUXIN CHILDREN OF BODOM FROM FINLAND
Even in the midst of his worst year for health issues, Alexi Laiho didn't seem to be phased by his unfortunate luck.
I was lucky enough to see them live this year.
Artist: Dance Gavin Dance
Track: Carve
Album: Acceptance Speech
Genre: Post-Hardcore
- Spoiler:
- First release by Dance Gavin Dance to include their new vocalist Tilian Pearson, and it was an
incredible piece of work.
Artist: Dayshell
Track: Hail To The Queen
Album: Dayshell (Self-Titled)
Genre: Hardcore/Post-Hardcore
- Spoiler:
- This is the new Shayley Bourget, former vocalist of popular post-hardcore band Of Mice & Men. After
therapy and such for his depression issues, Bourget reunited with his bandmates from the old days of Covette,
and thus Dayshell was born.
Artist: Evergreen Terrace
Track: Browbeaters Anonymous
Album: Dead Horses
Genre: Metalcore

Artist: Greeley Estates

Album: Devil Son EP
Genre: Metalcore

Album: Death Will Reign
Genre: Deathcore
- Spoiler:
Artist: Lights ft. Coeur de Pirate
Track: Peace Sign (Acoustic)
Album: Siberia Acoustic
Genre: Acoustic
- Spoiler:
- I almost didn't include this one just because of how terrible the mastering was on the acoustic version of
this album :/ what happened there is beyond me... Oh well, this was one of my favorites from the original album that
came out in 2011, and despite the third-rate producing I still found the acoustic version catchy.
Artist: Man Overboard
Track: Hot To Hide Your Feelings
Album: Heart Attack
Genre: Pop Punk
- Spoiler:
Artist: Mayday Parade
Track: Even Robots Need Blankets
Album: Monsters In The Closet
Genre: Alternative, Pop Punk
- Spoiler:
Artist: Mayer Hawthorne
Track: The Innocent
Album: Where Does This Door Go?
Genre: Soul
- Spoiler:
Artist: Protest The Hero
Track: Without Prejudice | Yellow Teeth
Album: Volition
Genre: Progressive Metal
- Spoiler:
- This one was a full playlist uploaded by Protest The Hero themselves. Tracks 4 and 5 were my favorite but
the whole album is fantastic. Features Chris Adler from Lamb of God on the drums because their former drummer left
just before recording this album to pursue a career in tool & dye manufacturing (no joke).
Artist: Silverstein
Track: Massachusetts
Album: This Is How The Wind Shifts (Acoustic version on re-release Addendum)
Genre: Post-Hardcore
- Spoiler:
- No surprise here. Silverstein came and conquered the post-hardcore scene yet again with this year's
release of This Is How The Wind Shifts.
Artist: Sungha Jung
Track: Felicity
Album: Paint It Acoustic
Genre: Acoustic Solo Fingerstyle
- Spoiler:
- A live performance. Already rivaling some of the fingerplucking greats such as Andy McKee and Don Ross,
Korean guitar prodigy Sungha Jung is exploding in popularity overseas especially after just his 3rd studio release
Paint It Acoustic. If you think that's impressive, he just turned 17 a few months ago.
Artist: Winds of Plague
Track: United Through Hatred
Album: Resistance
Genre: Deathcore, Melodic Death Metal

Re: The Music Thread
A lot of the music that isn't video game music that I listen to comes from songs I find associated with racing videos, video games, and the like. And as such, I've been hooked on both of these songs for the past month.
And then The Megas, one of my favorite bands, did this kickass cover of "Send Me an Angel" a while back, accompanied by audio excerpts from the movie The Wizard.

Just came back home from Soundwave, which had an amazing 3 hour set from Green Day, with the main highlight being Billie bringing up an 15 year old girl to play his guitar during 2000 Light Years Away (I think it was this song, may of been Burnout), then letting her keep it.

A few things:
-First of all, just two days ago, Toots Thielemans, probably the greatest harmonica player of all time and a Belgian music legend, retired from the music scene at age 91. Yes. 91.
-Secondly, this is a song that's getting major airplay over here and that I absolutely love despite the huge French accent:
-Thirdly and finally, I have just been reminded of the absolute epicness of this cover of a not very good song:

(I can't imagine there's any problem with bumping this thread a couple of days.)
Over the weekend, The Megas, as I've mentioned before in this thread, released a new album over the weekend. I'm of course a Mega Man classic fan, and they do really tight rock covers of various Mega Man stage themes, accompanied by lyrics (Go figure why I like them). The album they just released was kick-ass. Here's a few of my favorite tracks from it.

I have slowly been liking Five Finger Death Punch over the years that I've listened to them. After watching this, they've become my new favorite band that are releasing albums and going on tours on a regular basis.
