Earnhardt Jr., Newman to lose sponsorship after law is passed.

So does anyone remember that bill that would eliminate military sponsorship from major and minor sporting events? Well, after some additional support, it's back, and it looks like it will happen. The House Appropriations Committee approved it today. The bill would end military sponsorships in NASCAR, pro fishing, and pro wrestling. The US Army hold 12 races on Ryan Newman's car, while the National Guard take up almost half of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s schedule.

I don't think it would hurt Junior too much...

I don't get this...So Newman and Jr get to lose sponsors, yet the armed forces, who spend millions on their commercials, can continue to make them? The army probably spends more on their bloody commercials and other ads then they do on Newman. (Jr. it has to be massive so can't say the same.)

They do, but I think it's only about 2 races of primary sponsorship.

No damage done really. Junior has Mountain dew still, While Newman has a ton of other sponsors.

Both teams have an infinite amount of spending money and sponsorship money, it won't affect anything. I do hate it though, as I am a US Military supporter.

I think it's somewhat stupid that they sponsor (It's not like everybody already knows about it), but I can get why they do it anyway (to try and sway minds).

They do, but I think it's only about 2 races of primary sponsorship.

U.S. Air Force is schedule to be the sponsor of the #43 for 2 races (last year it was the Coke 600 and another race), so that's probably gone now, I'm guessing Smithfield will take those 2 races with some of there smaller brands.

This is all new to me. My main question is what was the main reason behind this? Does the government see no point in these sponsorships, is the public fed up with it? And then there's the question of who actually thought up the bill and who supports it.


Also, would the Coast Guard and Air National Guard count as branches that would also be affected by this amendment?

Will Newman and Dale Jr still carry their Army sponsors for the rest of the season or have they been removed from them?

I like Newman's Wix Filters car better,

and Jr. has Mountain Dew so he isn't gonna lose there.

NASCAR fans may have a lot of brand loyalty, but has anyone honestly gone into the National Guard because it was on Dale Jr.'s car?

you'd be surprised, I've heard people joining the Navy because it was on the Nationwide/Busch car a few years ago...

Yeah and David Stremme raced it as well in 05 and 06. Then JR Motorsports had with all the reject drivers he had on that team before Kes drove for him.
