Decatur Pre-Race Thread
Xenos Cars Painted Black
Xenos Racing has shown up to Decatur with two cars, the #47 car with Robert Dorian at the wheel and Leigh Gruell in car #48. Both cars are solid black, with the sponsor decals still in place.
Bouvier, Donzelo Ruled Out of Decatur
Jacques Bouvier and Carlos Donzelo will not be taking part in the Round of Decatur as a result of injuries suffered during the Round of Brazil. Bouvier will be replaced by Canadian TM Lights driver Jacob Kard, while no driver has been announced for the #75 car as of yet.

Terra International Motorsports to remember Scott Hamilton
The team will wear black armbands on their uniforms and race suits with the number 46 in memory for the driver during the Round of Decatur, regardless if they get anyone in the race. The team also sent condolence packages to the family, friends, and teammates of Hamilton.

Carcia-Aragon Motorsports (team fielding the 728 of Nikos Kastapolous): "We're psyched to run at such a popular racetrack. We're still searching for some of the equipment, but we're ready to rock."
The team will run with sponsorship from TheRacingExperts.com, the same company that sponsors their ARLA Elite Series efforts, which is going full time next year.

Ex-Fortner members send condolence packages to Hamilton family
"I know we're not in the series because of what took place beforehand and we're sorry for that. On behalf of the Fortner team, I want to extend our condolences to Scott Hamilton's family, friends, and teammates for the tragic loss of Scott Hamilton during the race at Brazil. I just can't find words to describe this tragedy. At this time, Fortner is donating portions of earnings from Independent's Trophy races Fortner entered to the Hamilton's, and to his friends and teammates. We are shocked, appalled, and just amazed at how this affects the world of motorsports regardless of what series it is. We'll miss #46. Prayers and thoughts are extended to the entire Xenos operation." says ex-Fortner driver/team owner Billy Fortner.

Lester hopeful to qualify for Decatur
Casey Lester: I've gotta say, this is probably one of the biggest weekends of my life. I had a one-off for this race lined up last year, but we didn't have everything ready in time to get on the initial entry list. This year, I got on fair and square with one of my most loyal companies in PUMP Energy onboard and I'm hoping to get a midfield finish good eough to get in. Good luck to my fellow racers and teams. Gentleman... let's race.

(Forgot something...)
Casey Lester: Also, if Cesar Vila Nova is running this event, you might as well cross him off the list because he was a complete f**king idiot in Japan and he caused Holtzmann and Plissken to wreck and, to be blatant, killed Scott Hamilton. I thought he was alright when I first heard him, but I don't really want to see him on the track in the TM Lights or anywhere else. He's probably going to be a moving chicane this weekend just like the past two races.

RTR Crew Remembering Scott Hamilton with Charity Auction
Following the race at Decatur, Cameron Taylor will auction his autographed helmet to the highest bidder. The proceeds will be donated to the Scott Hamilton Memorial Fund. "It's the least I can do for Scott's family." He also invited other drivers to do the same.

Re: Decatur Pre-Race Thread
First of all, that would be bought for like $10. Second, we don't want to completely parody Wheldon's death...
Re: Decatur Pre-Race Thread
An Autographed helmet of any driver would be worth way more then 10 dollars, especially one that raced in a series that can be compared to F1.PKligBKFan wrote:First of all, that would be bought for like $10. Second, we don't want to completely parody Wheldon's death...

Not really his character.. Anyway though, like I said this is getting way too much into the Dan Wheldon death.

Re: Decatur Pre-Race Thread
Hamilton's death was not meant to be a parody to Wheldon's death. It's kinda like a parallel, if that even makes sense. I just don't understand how some of us are being critical of somebody's character doing something for another character, kinda like Woody said.

I agree... but picking on him doesn't really do much about that.

WE DID IT!
Those were the words that Ben Atkins yelled on his radio when he got the news his time was good enough to put him in the field. Ben got out of his car and congratulated with his pit crew about making it into his first ever TM Master Cup Race. "This was the boost I needed. This team have been fantastic. I'm glad I'm gonna be with them for the ARLA season next year." Ben stated. "I just can't believe it right now. We're gonna be racing at Decatur! It's amazing!"

Deja vu for Matthews: Forgive Ryan Matthews if he felt like he'd been here before.
No, not at Decatur Raceway, but having to race his way into a TM Master Cup event - just like at Karjala earlier this year.
"I'm starting to wonder," he said. "Hopefully this turns out more like Dwyer (where wife Tiffany raced her way into the ARLA event there) and less like Karjala."
Matthews awaits his pre-qualifying race assignment.

No one gets it done at their own home track, Terra International Motorsports will continue onto the prequalifiers
Hopefully things will turn around for the Decatur, IL based team, while Ryon and Sarah ran faster times than Greg during the pole qualifying races, no TIM members were fast enough... Greg was about 30th fastest during his pole qualifying attempts.
Get it together!

Big Mac Racing Not Fast Enough
Thomas Moore stated after his qualifying run, "The car and driver just weren't quite good enough during that qualifying run. We'll just have to work on the car and surprise everyone when we sneak into the race."
Makoto Yamada was unable to be reached for a comment.

Azure struggles in qualifying, must race his way in.
FAC Motorsports owner Frank Azure got out of his car irritated that he was nowhere near timing his way into the Round of Decatur and now must race his way in. "That was just pathetic. We're so slow right now that I don't think we could race our way in. We have a lot work to do before pre-qualifying" Azure concluded.

Dan Wheldon wasn't a fictional character in the TM universe now was he? Any professional athlete that has ever died (whether playing the sport or completely unrelated), has had a memorial fund named after them at some point. Don't argue about things you're clueless about.

Vila Nova Fires Back at Lester
After qualifying his AHG Omecha 10th for the 2011 Round of Decatur, Brazilian rookie Cesar Vila Nova was ecstatic that his time was good enough to make the field. He admitted that managing traffic in the half-hour session was a problem.
"It was tough, man, there were so many cars everywhere so you had to really be careful." Vila Nova said.
The Brazilian also took time in his interview to hit out at American rookie Casey Lester.
"I'm happy that Casey Lester didn't make it through, because a driver with his maturity doesn't deserve to call himself a racing driver... especially since I heard other people complaining that he was a weapon. He needs to grow up if he wants people to respect him, because we all had respect for Scott [Hamilton], and that is why people gave Scott chances, everyone respected him."

I have a feeling during the PreQualifier Woodard will somehow be starting towards the back and through people going off of the track, he'll find himself landing a top 10.
That's my feelings though. For all I know the tires on the car will be consistent by going flat or being cut by debris XD

Lester responds to Vila Nova
Casey Lester: OK, I was alot harder on you than I should have been. I saw the replay and it seems you held your line. Looks like it was a racing incident. I have been a bit chaotic in my previous attemots, but I hope to have a clean run in the Pre-Q race and not make more enemies than I already have.

Roderick to Wear Hamilton's Helmet Design for Decatur
Leonid Roderick showed up to Decatur with his usual racing gear, orange firesuit and blue gloves that he has become known for. However, the "flaming meteorite" helmet design that Roderick has used for most of his career was notably absent. In its place was the design used by Scott Hamilton for his top-level career. Hamilton's helmet design, which depicts a tropical scene, was based off of a photo taken at his wedding in late 2008.
Hamilton's widow, Natalie, and father, Roger, will be guests of FLASH Racing and Leonid Roderick for the race. Natalie Hamilton has been to all TM Master Cup Series races this year, where she has been a part of the pre-race show for Channel 44.
Decatur will be the first race Roger Hamilton has been to since the season opener.

Re: Decatur Pre-Race Thread
PreQualifying Race 1:
Michael Sykes led all but 1 lap from the pole. The only lap he didn't lead was because of pit stops. Not like it mattered a whole lot.
Old friends Packer Carroll and Brian Sendack tangled on the first lap and sent Troy Griffith off course. Further down the field (OOC: Art imitating life?) Ryan Griffin pushed up into John Jefferson, taking both into the wall. Both continued, but with extensive damage.
With only two laps remaining, Mike Whitmore, who had been running 11th, pulled off the course after a tire exploded.
Mikko Forsstrom, Ryan Matthews, and Ike Durbin are one step closer to making their TM Master Cup Series debuts, while Brian Sendack is a step closer to his first start of the year.
Notable among the DNPQ list were Danny Savin (whom Sendack shoved out of the way at the top of the Hill with two laps to go), ARLA title contender Kevin Monroe, Daniel Foray (whose first foray into TM Master Cup Series racing did not go well), Shane Lake, and Leigh Gruell.
(Will post the full results in a few minutes)
PreQualifying Race 2:
Adrien Devereux broke the track record and put his car on pole with the Lady in Red alongside him on the front row. Most drivers would use caution when starting on the outside of the front row at Decatur in a prequalifying race, but Rainsford opted to throw caution to the wind, nearly jumped the kerb in a hero-or-zero move to take the lead. It worked.
Fortunately, nobody else tried anything quite as crazy in the first turn of the first lap. Before the field got to turn 3 (a right hander), Anthony Griffith pulled to the left into Justin Robinson, trying to run him into the grass. Robinson did not budge. The result was both cars going off course and Robinson bouncing off the wall. His day was done after he drove the 79 car back to the pits.
Griffith was invited to the Steward's Office.
After turn 3, Casey Lester got into Cyrus LaTerza, spinning the 99 car... ... oh wait, nevermind, LaTerza just did a 25 yard long drift. The field stacked up, and too many cars in too small a space at the top of the hill inevitably leads to a crash. Today was no exception.
Michael Dougly continued his streak of not making friends this week by turning Sarah Xavier around and nose first into the wall. Xavier would have been fine and have driven away from this incident. That is, if Yevgeny Kuznetsov knew where the brakes were and didn't hammer into the right rear of Xavier's car. Darrell Wallace hammered into the back of Kuznetsov's car, eliminating both and Xavier on the spot. Nobody was injured.
Rainsford in the meantime opened up a huge lead before green flag pit stops, where the Volpi crew (typically) blew it and gave the lead to Devereux, who led until the end. Rainsford had a 4 second lead before the pitstops. After the pitstops, she was 8 seconds back. Whoops.
A good battle ensued in the midfield for the race, and it was a tight battle to get the transfer positions. However, annoying backmarkers (and by backmarkers, I mean Michael Dougly, Mike Walczak and Anthony Griffith), rained on that parade.
Michael Dougly jammed up Axel Andersson (10th), who was lapping Mike Walczak's Tutino. Behind Andersson was Chris Davenport, who, being the epitome of patience, punted the Tutino out of the way, taking Andersson and himself off the track. Taylor Silverman also went off track as well but he wasn't hit by anyone...
One lap later, Griffith jammed up his good friend (sarcasm) Allie Riggs (13th) going up the hill. Riggs made several attempts to spin the 31 car of Griffith out, but her last attempt was foiled by Cyrus LaTerza. LaTerza intended to actually race and poked his nose under Riggs going up the hill. Riggs attempted to punt the 31 off the course. She succeeded, but she also cut across LaTerza's nose in the process, sending herself and Griffith off course.
There was a little bit of drama still to come. Nils Tolonen, running second in his Finntech Omecha, broke a camshaft and exited the race. Meaning, of course, that he racked up a DNPQ. Kurt Plissken was the beneficiary.
PreQualifying Race 3:
Phillip Borland was scheduled to start the 68 car from 36th, but blew up on the pace lap.
Scott Bates put a whoopin' on everyone. Led 17 of 18 laps. Cameron Taylor, in the meantime, was busy getting booted off the road by Tom Delgado in turn three. It was a move that the stewards did not particularly like, and issued a warning to Delgado for reckless driving.
Vitaly Karpenko's Tolyatti did what Tolyatti does best midway through the race -- it blew up!
Other then that, Jacob Kard, subbing for Jacques Bouvier, did a tremendous job to finish third.
Michael Sykes led all but 1 lap from the pole. The only lap he didn't lead was because of pit stops. Not like it mattered a whole lot.

Griffith and Riggs involved in altercation after race
Twenty-five minutes after PreQualifying Race 2 ended, Anthony Griffith was seen storming over to the hauler of Allie Riggs. In the qualifier, Riggs made repeated attempts to spin out Griffith, and finally succeeded when racing with Cyrus LaTerza. Three minutes later, a shouting match had erupted between Griffith and Riggs. A punch was reportedly thrown, then Griffith was unceremoniously thrown from the premises of the #19 team's hauler. Both drivers claimed to have thrown the punch, but there were too few witnesses to verify exactly who did it.

Sarah Xavier 'okay' after issues during prequalifyer
Sarah Xavier, Michael Dougly, and some random Russian got into it momentarily as Dougly turned Xaiver into the wall, the random Russian, which this reporter cannot spell, forgot that he wasn't in ARLA today, which in this reporter's opinion, is why he forgot the car actually has brakes.
Dougly apparently wasn't too fond of making any friends as he goes down in history as a racing troll and on the black list of drivers to never be allowed to drive a Lycoia ever, again.
Greg on the other hand whooped his teammates a new one as he came up from 10th to 6th during his prequal race. This is indeed a good day for the residents of Decatur... now... onto the qualifiers!

Delgado DNPQ's, Blasts Team As Well as Officials and Taylor
Tom Delgado pulled no punches after his pre-qualifying event. He was issued a warning for reckless driving after throwing Cameron Taylor off the track. Immediately on the radio, Delgado laughed about the official's warning. "Slow ass shouldn't be slow then" Delgado said, whilst laughing at the fact that the officials warned him for "doing everyone a favor". Afterwards, Delgado hit out at Cameron Taylor, and the officials for the warning.
"I can see the epidemic of stupidity has spread to the officials. I don't usually criticize things they do, but when they make an unnecessary mountain out of a mere molehill, something has to be said. I hope these people are told to brush up on what actually constitutes the term "RECKLESS DRIVING" during the offseason" Delgado said of the incident. "This is an unacceptable setback for everyone at Star Team Nemoto, and quite frankly I'm disgusted with the whole situation. Everyone here needs to get their <censored> together for 2012 because I will not tolerate DNPQ'ing for any event ever again. We are too good for this garbage" Delgado added as the frustration of failing to pre-qualify started to set in. "I plan on meeting with Katashima-san in Japan during the offseason, and I want to make it very clear that this kind of effort from my team is beyond unacceptable. We can do better, and I know Katashima-san will do all he can to bring in people who want to win as bad as I do" Delgado added as he kicked his car in disgust and made a slow walk out of the track so he can return to Rockford.
"I will win the Rockford 200 for my fans and all the people who still believe in taking care of your business ON the track and not crying behind a bunch of official's backs" Delgado said to the few reporters who were still looking for a soundbyte as he walked to his hauler.

A Disappointing Day for Big Mac Racing
At pre-qualifying for the TMMC Round of Decatur, neither of the two Big Mac Racing cars made it past pre-qualifying. In the first heat, Thomas Moore was only two spots away from pre-qualifying. In the second heat, Makoto Yamada did not show too much speed. Yamada, once again, declined an interview. Thomas Moore was visibly disappointed, but he accepted an interview. Moore said, "We were real close today. The car was pretty good, and I just got outraced. The racing around my position was close, but clean. Racing with Brian Sendack, Danny Savin, and some of the current ARLA frontrunners was great for my experience. This race definitely helped improve my road course racing skills. While I'm upset that we did not pre-qualify, I know for a fact that we will qualify next year."

Camphausen Pre-Qualifies.
"Hard to believe at the beginning of this year I barely had the money to put an ARLA car on the grid for 7 races. Now I am sitting here oh so close to my Master Cup debut. I need to thank everyone at Blake Camphausen Motorsports, Safe Crackers, William Philips for funding the Master Cup effort here this weekend and Team Saar USA for giving me a drive next year. This is just amazing."

Azure fails to pre-qualify at Decatur.
Frank Azure's luck from Rockford didn't carry over to Decatur as he failed to pre-qualify for the TM Master Cup Series finale. "This is the top racing series in the world for a reason. It's not easy for anybody to make these kind of races. My expectations were a little higher than what we actually ran. I thought we would be a little more competitive but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Just wait until Karjala next year. We will redeem ourselves."

Ike One Step Closer to Making TMMC Debut
Ike Durbin has been all over Illinois as of lately. He has been traveling back and forth from Decatur, IL and Rockford, IL for the Decatur TMMC race and the Rockford ARLA race. Earlier in the week, he raced his way into his ARLA debut by winning the B-Main, to transfer into the A-Main. And now, he is one step closer to making his TM Master Cup Series debut less than one week later. Durbin had a decent showing in his Pre-Qualifying race, staying out of the way and finishing 11th, right in front of former TM Master Cup Champion, Tony Durbin (of which he has no relation to). Durbin commented to reporters after the race about his showing. "It was a good run. My goal was to stay out of the way of the senior drivers, which I feel I did. I made it into the Main Qualifier, which I'm happy about. But I know that this performance will not get me into the main qualifier, so we'll need to step it up in the main-q."

Nick Dawson Pre-Qualifies for Debut
"Wow, what a turn of events, I wanna thank everybody who stuck with me in this. Now my girlfriend can be happier!" Dawson has no prior history of any stock car racing experience, but is very talented in the FIA. He hopes to bring his road course experience to the TMMC.

PSI Has "Serious Concerns" About Griffith Now
PSI owner William Power has what he called "some major red flags" over Anthony Griffith's altercation with Allie Riggs shortly after the conclusion the Decatur Pre-Q #2 race. "This type of behavior is reprehensible and raises some serious concerns regarding our team in 2012. We have several female drivers in our stable and this type of behavior is totally and completely unacceptable. I have a rule-- you don't hit women. Period. End of discussion. But the most alarming part of this whole fiasco is that Anthony Griffith is relishing in what he's done as evidenced by his most recent tweet:
I won't tolerate it. It's grounds for dismissal in my book. I'll wait until all the facts are in, but it's not looking good for him right now. He hasn't even stepped one foot inside the PSI doorway and already this crap has taken place. I'm going to have to reevaluate this entire situation. This puts us in a tight spot and I don't appreciate it very much. Not a good way to impress your new boss at all. He was to become an integral component of our team next year and now everything is up in the air," Power stated.
The "tight spot" Power referred to was that Tonare was to provide PSI with it's new Surge chassis after PSI unceremoniously parted ways with James Dalton Racing. Anthony Griffith was part of the deal to replace exiting driver Marcos Leonard. If Griffith is ousted before he becomes an official member of the team, PSI could once again lose it's chassis supplier.
"Tonare is a good company and I hope they do the right thing concerning Griffith here. This is not an image we at PSI want fostered in the public eye-- that we support this type of abhorrent behavior. I'm sure they don't as well. But he's acting as if he's proud of this incident and we don't want any of this thug type of mentality over in our garage. It's toxic and counterproductive to all that we've worked for," Power concluded.
"Speaking of James Dalton, I'm very interested in the progress of that investigation that was launched a while back. I wonder if we'll hear anything of the findings before the season is over?" queried Power as he left the podium.

I don't mind reactions to story lines at all, I was hoping for a little more substance though. Is the "meh" in response to Will Power's reaction to the Anthony Griffith saga?! If so, that's cool, but at least flesh out the responses a little more.

Actual race will probably not be run until Thursday.
