Fabrezia hoping to cash in for a shot at TMMC Empty Fabrezia hoping to cash in for a shot at TMMC

According to various media outlets, Italian pay driver Nicola Fabrezia went on the record today expressing his interest in obtaining a part time or one off drive in the TM Master Cup series. Fabrezia is banking on his cult following (brought on by his unique personality) along with his strong personal connections within the Benneton Group to find a seat in the series. Even though the season is five races old, he remains confident in his chances, despite a recent blowup at the STS International Touring Car team

At a young age, Fabrezia quickly began to make a name for himself among local karting circles. Blessed with strong family ties, he was given an early start into the world of motorsports and showed somewhat credible talent. It's after winning the Italian Karting Championship in 06' and the World Karting Championship in 07' that we get a glimpse into Fabriezia's character.

After winning the karting crown, he used his connections and money to move into Italian F3000 for 2008 with the Scuderia Derpinza team. It was here where Nicola began to earn his reputation as an ultra-aggressive driver. The speed was there, and the young Italian did achieve considerable success. But when he wasn't winning or on the podium, he was destroying equipment at an alarming rate. The problem lied in large part to Nicola's "win or die trying" mentality. Watching Fabrezia make unnessecary risks was commonplace; despite scoring as many podiums as the series champion, he also ranked up the most DNF's of any driver that season to boot.

He departed F3000 on very sour terms at the end of an average 2009 season and Fabrezia made a move into the International Touring Car Championship where he accompanied Tony Durp at the factory STS team. Despite taking a podium in 2011 at Snetterton (a race where only three finished in monsoon conditions), a championship eluded him due in part to his overaggressive driving style. After a slow start to the season, Fabrezia left the team and made his announcement yesterday stating his interest in a TMMC ride.

His unpredictable behavior both on and off the track has congered himself a rather healthy following of fans and back home in Italy. Nicola managed to find a niche for the way he managed himself both on and off the track. Called "idiotic", "insane", "badass" and "a bit off" by some, it is his carefree attitude, prankster reputation and sheer blunt open mindedness that has won him fame along with critism. For example, Fabrezia made headlines by urinating in the gravel pit at Barcelona back in 2009 after a late race punt in a battle for 8th position. His "middle finger salute" to league officials afterward further ignited critism. He was fined $55,000 by the FIA for his actions and was primarily the reason why he earned the boot from Scuderia Derpinza. Humorous obscenities are commonplace in interviews and had led to further fines and a notable points penalty last year which some say cost him the ITCC crown.

"It's just who I am" claims Fabrezia. "I simply speak my mind and let it be known. Hell with the naysayers" he says.

Multiple teams have expressed intrested in signing Fabrezia and either way, having him in the series is sure to provide excitement both on and off the track.
