SERIES OVERLOOK

It's 1974. Zach Whitt has just come off one of the most dominant performances in auto racing history, locking up the 1973 Grand National Championship with six races left in the season. A title in his third year racing in the Grand National Series for Morrison-Campbell Racing, the driver of the #57 Patrick Sellars Ford Dealers Torino is looking to repeat last year's results in the championship.

But he's not the only one in the title hunt. After driving a year for the Ward Brothers, Zach's younger brother Alex has signed with Shinbaum Motorsports and will drive a better equipped Torino with backing from the Palmetto Oil Company and Associates, Limited (Palmocal). His teammate Bill Champion, driver of the #22 Palmocal Torino, also has high expectations for 1974. Team owner Scott Shinbaum will do any and eveything necessary to get his drivers in the winner's circle.

But they'll have to watch out for Scuderia Ezio. Driving their Winston backed Lorenzos, Mark Granby and Antonio Oglesby are first class stock car drivers who are susceptible to clashing with each other--but when working together they're virtually unstoppable.

And so is the story for Aindreas Siosalach, James Huber, Dorsey Schonn, the veteran Harold Urlacher, and all the others competing in the Grand National Series. The seasons are getting longer and tougher, and it's not uncommon for drivers to race a bullring one week, fly off to an extreme road course the next, and then pack up and race on high banked superspeedways the week after that. It's beyond demanding. To quote those famous words: "This isn't just a thousand to one shot. This is a professional bloodsport."

This is where legends are made. Where the men are separated from the boys. This, THIS is the Whittoria Auto Club Grand National Series.

SO, BASICALLY...

This series takes place in the country of Whittoria: Basically an alternate US that also has St. Lucia and various other islands as territories (as well as 1/4-1/3 of the actual US's population). Other real life countries exist, such as Germany and Micronesia, as well as fictional ones. If you choose to sign up your driver should be from Whittoria (all 50 states exist as normal). This series is not TMMC Canon, but it is canon with my Whittoria Auto Club.

This is the series that I began on another site originally; the "current" season is 1982, and it's currently in the preseason stages. The "first" season took place in 1980 Whittoria, and the goal was (and still is) to mirror NASCAR of the same era (with a few differences, of course). But I didn't want 1980 to be the surefire beginning of the Whittoria Auto Club, and I posted somewhere that the WAC had been around since 1963. So some time ago I began going back and running races to simulate the WAC's early history. I started at 1970 and went through 1973, then went back and ran the 1963 season--the very first Grand National season! Only six cars competed that first season, compared to the 35+ in the WAC of the 70's.

So here we are at 1974. The schedule is up. Participants who sign up will be in charge of a driver from Whittoria. You may choose a driver who already competes in the GNS (with a few exceptions) or you may create your own driver and have them start as a rookie. Either way is fine.

RATINGS PACKAGE:
Spoiler:

There are two categories where you may choose the maximum AND minimum rating from 0 to 100: AGGRESSION and PIT STRATEGY

For the rest:

DRIVER:
-You have 2 sets of 45-85, 2 sets of 40-80, 2 sets of 60-80, and one set of 80-90 to apply to your driver's abilities

VEHICLE:
For Existing Manufacturers (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Plymouth):
-You have one set of 40-80, one set of 40-85, one set of 50-75, and one set of 35-90. However, whatever you choose for Reliability will have a minimum of twenty (20).

For Fictional Chassis':
-Should you choose one of my fictional marques to compete, note that each has unique characteristics, and none are perfect. They will not necessarily have any advantages over existing marques.

TUTTLE TARHEEL:
-Tough, reliable cars with plenty of horsepower, average aerodynamics and handling. The only make to have a reliability minimum higher than 20.
Aerodynamics: 50-75
Chassis: 40-80
Engine: 40-85
Reliability: 35-90

LORENZO PANTHER:
-With a sportscar heritage in the Impala and GTO, the Panther has excellent handling and great aerodynamics. Horsepower is above average, but its reliability is questionable.
Aerodynamics: 40-85
Chassis: 45-90
Engine: 40-80
Reliability: 15-75

ARENDALL LIGER:
-A true to form muscle car, factory built for stock car racing. Excellent horsepower, great aerodynamics, average reliability, but poor handling.
Aerodynamics: 40-85
Chassis: 35-75
Engine: 45-90
Reliability: 20-80

CULLER 402:
-The Culler 402 is all about horsepower. With the largest engine of any vehicle competing in the Grand National Series, the 402 generates close to 800 horsepower. With a moderately advanced suspension it handles quite well, although it's aerodynamically challenged. Reliability isn't any more of an issue than any other car.
Aerodynamics: 35-75
Chassis: 40-85
Engine: 45-90
Reliability: 20-80

All Pit crew ratings will be set from 0-70
THE CARS

In addition to real life manufacturers, there are 4 major auto manufacturers in Whittoria:

Tuttle

Lorenzo

Arendall

Culler

Not trying to be a tool, but was this approved by one of the admins? Most times, people who run the Minor Leagues series post that their league was approved by the admin who approved it at the top of their first post.

Cynon told him that if he wanted his league here, that he could just ask him, so I'm assuming that that he asked Cynon and Cy approved.

^This. I have edited it though to reflect this. Wasn't sure on the proper protocol as far as that was concerned; looking through some of the other minor league threads, some of them had that at in the OP and some didn't.

But yes, I have permission from Cynon to run this here.

While I'm thinking about it, would it be appropriate to link to where the bulk of this league is run? Not to try and woo people away from here of course, but just to give those who sign up (if any) and idea of the space they'll be working in?

Other leagues have, so I assume it's okay,.

I'll join. So, if we sign up, it'll be like Texas, Whittoria?

This evening when I have time I'll update the OP with all the info needed for formal signups to begin.

@Chives: Edit, I misunderstood the question, but yes, that's correct. Basically you can pretty much switch "United States of America" with "the Commonwealth of Whittoria"

This thread has been updated; instead of a regional series this is a historical series of the Whittoria Auto Club. This will be a bit easier for me to manage than the original idea I had. See the OP for more details.

This change has been approved by Cynon.
