Murphy Shows Worth, Delgado Offers MRD Contract on the Spot, Then Fires Jefferson

After his 15th place finish at Decatur, MRD Motorsports owner Tom Delgado hunted down A.J. Murphy after the race, and immediately gave him a piece of paper. It was later revealed that the piece of paper given to Murphy after the race was an MRD contract to drive the #76 in 2012.

"A.J. showed us something that we haven't seen from anyone in our stable this year" Delgado said. "He showed us determination, tempered aggression, and a will to soak up everything on the track and win" Delgado added, heaping on the praise of Murphy's efforts.

After praising Murphy's race, Tom Delgado then fired John Jefferson on the spot, buying out the final few races of his contract. It is unknown who will drive the #76 at Phoenix.

Sprint Car Champ Daniel Leckliter to attempt Cleveland?

3 time National Sprint Car Association Southeast division champion Daniel Leckliter is said to attempt Cleveland, and the 2012 season. He's going to show up in the #110 Chevy Impala with sponsorship from the Tampa Bay Rays, which he'll run in 2012. He's also looking into bringing a second car into the team, which will be confirmed after the Phoenix race.

Jefferson to drive for ZakkTek at Phoenix, Cleveland

In a surprise announcement, Zack Kovach, owner-driver of the struggling ZakkTek team, will not race at Phoenix and Cleveland. He will put John Jefferson, recently fired from MRD Motorsports, in that car for the final two races of the season with additional sponsorship from Allied Waste Services and KeyCorp. The deal was reportedly determined over a handshake and several beers at a local Phoenix bar.
