DAYTONA, FL. (28-12-2011) - The Spaniard Fernando Alonso, twice world champion in Formula 1, has confirmed through its representative who will take part in the next edition of the Daytona 500, testing which takes place next month February and will open the 2012 season of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In a brief note, Alonso announced he will drive for one of the strongest teams in the championship, which will prepare an extra car for the occasion.
The news caught everyone by surprise, given that Ferrari has never shown a special interest in NASCAR, at least in public, and arrives just when important changes are occurring in their private lives.
Is this the first step of the final leap from one of the greats of Formula 1 to NASCAR?
On the other hand, the interest of Santander bank introduced in the U.S. as it has in other countries, has been promoting this movement, in an unprecedented marketing operation, which will promote the debut of the first Spanish driver in America's largest auto racing: NASCAR.
- "This is something I've always wanted to do, and thanks to Santander and Ferrari, which has not put any impediment, I can finally wear out" - said the pilot in the note received exclusively by NASCAR-EUROPE.
At the moment no further details are known about the team that will give the Spaniard a chance to participate in the Great American Race, but we expect more details during the day.
“In Spain, December 28th is a day of practical jokes, similar to what we in the USA celebrate on April Fool’s Day. Dia de los Santos Inocentes. Newspapers tend to include false information in their edits and it has become another classic to find them, provided they are not obvious or are included on the cover.”
