Poetry in motion. This is how karting should be nowadays. Less plastic bullshit and more open engine regs.

He may not have been overly incredible in F1 but in karts, Pantano was fantastic. Quick choke of the engine and slides it through, absolutely fantastic.

I hate to be "that guy" (really, really hate it), but there are already rumors going around that this may be some sort of viral marketing by VW. At one point in the video, the driver says something along the lines of "This is the new Volkswagen!" and the race interrupted was a one-make race for modified VW Beetles.

Of course, this is all just speculation. Even if it were true, that would arguably make it worse. Red flagging a four-hour endurance race by driving a road car onto an active track just for the purpose creating buzz for your brand would be unbelievably stupid, dangerous, and not at all fair to the drivers and teams.

The Fun Cup has no relation to VW. All cars are modelled around the Beetle however do not carry VW badging nor is the series sponsored by VW.

BRSCC, Brands Hatch and the police are also looking into it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2658725/Is-Britains-idiotic-driver-Video-posted-YouTube-appears-boy-racer-driving-girlfriends-VW-Polo-Brands-Hatch-circuit-middle-race.html <<excuse the fact the journalist has no idea about anything either.

The idiot's tried defending his actions by saying he lives every day like it's his last. Then go skydiving, or cliff diving, or run with the bulls in Pamplona. Don't do things that put other people in danger. If someone had hit that Polo in the back at full speed, his videoing buddy would've been killed. And if that girl in the passenger seat were my daughter, he would be banished from ever seeing her again, under threat of death. I hope she's had the sense to tell him to go to hell after that.

The idiot entered a freaking active track and he still tries to justify his actions. That is just silly, thank god that he was arrested, because he didn't endangered only himself, but he endangered the rest of the people in the car.

Re: Racing Video/Picture Thread

Post by BWard on Tue Jun 17, 2014 9:50 am

I know other people have said their opinion on the matter, and now for mine:

That is one of the most disgraceful and most stupid things I have ever seen. He goes onto the track without knowing the fact that he is putting his life, his passengers, and competitors on the track at risk of danger. Then he goes and tries to defend himself by making up an excuse, saying 'I live every day like it's my last', that honestly sounds like he putting his life at risk every day by doing dangerous things like this.

If he is going to get sentenced, which is very likely, he needs a good couple of years inside a Prison Cell for him to start thinking what he did wrong. This reminds of the Frank Wrathall scenario, which of course was different but similar. He only got 21 months (which is 1 year, 9 months) for killing a cyclist while on the phone driving, which to me was not enough. He should've got at least 5 years behind bars, and so should that aforementioned idiot as well.

Re-discovered the website with all of the pictures of the 1969 Wolverine Trans Am (the only race that was ever held on the full road-course layout of Michigan International Speedway).

http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8328.0

Spoiler:
The start of the race.

Entering the outfield in turn 3 of the oval (the fence obscures the course).

Crossing over the backstretch of the oval...

and into the infield.

Sliding through the final corner to rejoin the oval in heavy rains.

The Carousel turn in the outfield.

Since Leckliter got me started on defunct racetracks the other day, I've been doing some work in Google Earth to accurately map out the CART Meadowlands Grand Prix circuit since there has since been renovations to the Meadowlands and little of the original circuit remains.

Meadowlands Grand Prix Circuit, 1984 - 1987

Meadowlands Grand Prix Circuit, 1988 - 1991

Yellow lines in each of the pictures represent the pit lane, and the markers represent the start/finish line.

Nothing special, but I did this because I live about a half an hour from the Meadowlands. That, and as it stands, with the Port Imperial circuit still an uncertainty, this is the closest any racing league has come in recent to a race in New York City. Also I figure that those pictures might be somewhat useful to anyone who wanted to recreate the circuit for NR... *wink wink nudge nudge*

That was always one of my favorite schemes in NASCAR. I've always loved orange cars, but that one is my favorite. I remember watching it finish 4th in 2004 when I went to MIS for the first time. Casey Mears drove it that day.

I believe that I've mentioned this before, but this, in addition to being another iconic Busch Series scheme, is also one of my all-time favorites.

The NASCAR Goody's Dash Series had an awful lot of severe crashes at Daytona in the late 1990's and early 2000's. The first spoiler contains some incredible footage from the infield of turn 1 in the 2000 Discount Auto Parts 200 Presented by ACDelco Rapid Fire.

The accident occurred on the second lap of the race.
