Developmental Division inherits Modified Division's old points system

The Continental Racing League announced at its Charlotte headquarters on Sunday that the points system for the inaugural Developmental Division season will be the former points system used by the Modified Division. Under this system, only the Top 12 score points in a race, with two bonus points opportunities.

"We only have 23 entries for next season," said CRL President Josh McCollum, "so it makes sense for us to give the new division the bigger division's old points system."

As a refresher, here is what the system looks like:
Win-20 points
2nd-16
3rd-14
4th-12
5th-10
6th-8
7th-6
8th-5
9th-4
10th-3
11th-2
12th-1

Drivers also get bonus points for winning a pole and leading the most laps in a race. The Modified Division's new points system now awards points to the Top 33 finishers in a race. The Modified Division got a new system because there will be more entries in 2012.
