It is definitely unique... lol

That’s pretty much what I’m thinking, 2-4 races for the part-timers. Their involvement would be encouraged in the New England area races - especially the two events at New Hampshire.

Considering this series is meant to be more small-time and all the races are on the East Coast of the US, I would prefer that the team was based in at least the continental United States. I hope you aren't upset with me asking for that. I asked the same of UndyingLight for his first entry....

With that said, I don't have a problem with you using this exact entry (as is, based in Australia) as a part-timer/one-off.... the same goes for UndyingLight's entry based in Japan.

So far I have received 9 of the 28 submitted full-time entries. Several of the entries I have not yet received, I have seen renders but don’t have the schemes myself. And further several entries include plans for how they would get painted.

I do not have the following entries and I don’t know if they have been painted, or who will be painting them.
Woody wrote:#2 Faber - Steven Wallace, Jr. [Gearhen Racing Industries] (UndyingLight)
#57 Faber - Jeff Gearhen [Gearhen Racing Industries] (UndyingLight)

#7 in-house - Nathan Smith [7 Islands Racing Team] (TheRealNathNath)

#8 Saar - Dan Bowsher [Dan Bowsher Racing] (bsoyuz)

#19 Saar - Frank Azzaretto [KAT Motorsports] (racingfreak1999)

#95 Lenard - Nathan Ormond [Dank Memes Racing] (NascarAwesomeSquid24)
UndyingLight’s original entry (the #3) and zfitzwater599’s #59 entry are acceptable part-time entries (and idk who is painting these as well....).

The only additional information I am requesting for part-time entries is which of the races on the schedule they would like to enter (4 races maximum). The schedule can be found in this thread.

I would like to get the season started by the end of March, so I’m setting a deadline of Sunday March 24th for paint schemes. I feel that gives plenty of time.

I am personally willing to help anybody that needs assistance in getting their cars painted, and there a lot of great painters that participate here on the forum. There’s no reason why a request can’t be posted. If you have at least posted a request, I will look out for you and get your entries completed before I start the season.

If I don’t have the paint scheme for a specific entry when I get up on March 25th, for which a request was not posted, nor was an update given for how the scheme will be painted, then I will prepare to move on without that entry and consider them a no-show.

Rounding up the last few paintschemes now....

For any interested part-time entries, fill out the entry form and send it to me as a PM, along with up to 4 races to enter (the races at New Hampshire in particular are encouraged, as these will be two of the bigger events). I’m not going to wait in limbo for part-time entries that haven’t at least been requested, however; I will definitely be fair to you if I see you are putting effort into getting it done (even if you cannot paint it yourself). If you want to make sure your entry gets in, I strongly suggest posting a request, start painting the car, or asking me to paint it when you send me the PM.

Expect an entry list for Middle Georgia to be posted in the next week. 2019 RROL NOMAD - Page 2 4276145973

Post-Race Comments:
Cris Cole Laments "Neutered" Nomads
Just one race into RROL NOMAD competition and there's already a critic - and the criticism comes from perhaps the most well-known driver in the series. Former RROL Elite Series and TM Lights driver Cris Cole expressed his opinion about the Nomads to reporters after a disappointing result in the season-opener. Cole looked to be the favorite going into the race, qualifying on the pole and showing 3rd-fastest in practice.

He lead the first 4 laps before ending up 21st out of 28 competitors.

"These cars feel neutered, they need more horsepower... The speeds we ran here this week - Master Cup was running those speeds in the early 70s."

"What's separating us from the weekly modified tour here? Literally nothing because the specs are just about identical. If you ask me it makes us look amateurish."

NOMAD Voyager:
Poorly-timed caution, late-race fuel fiasco mark first-ever NOMAD race written by Scott Bigsby
BYRON, GA. The first-ever RROL NOMAD race was an event full of twists and turns along with several impressive performances; although arguably what will be most remembered about this race is the poorly-timed caution that left all but two cars on the lead lap after 134 of 182 laps, and the late-race fuel fiasco due to gambles taken by several teams during the second pit cycle.

Polesitter and one of the favorites going into the race Cris Cole led the first 4 laps before performing a disappearing act. Cole was anonymous for the remainder of the race, finishing 21st of 28 competitors - 3 laps down. Another experienced driver that fell well short of expectations was Jerry Richson, who started 10th and never appeared to have competitive speed in race trim. Richson would be the first driver to go a lap down, other than Steven Wallace, Jr. who stalled on the apron on lap 3 and had to be towed. Richson would also later on be involved in the two most significant cautions of the race.

Quickly the Reach Motors with Forkner Performance team, cars #07 and #08 - driven by Maxwell Tender and P. J. Endersen, showed a lot of strength. Both charged up to the top-5 during the first run of the race after starting 28th and 24th. Tender and Endersen would each go on to pick up a bonus point for leading during the race. Rick Jarrett Racing driver Mike Falls had an impressive performance and lead the most laps in the race (84).

Chrome Horn Racing's Tip Dover in car #36 was the only retirement from the race after a clutch failure on lap 121. Dover's teammates fared better in the race overall than Dover, who struggled; however, neither Matt A'dore or Chip Pasteur scored any points. A'dore fluctuated just outside of the top-10 for most of day. On the other hand, Chip Pasteur ran in the top-10 for a significant portion of the race but wound up losing fuel pressure at the final restart of the race and a late emergency pitstop resulted in a 26th-place finish for Pasteur.

A. J. Hayward came to life after the first pit cycle and the caution that followed it. He restarted a lap down, 2nd in line behind then race-leader Maxwell Tender. Hayward got the jump on Tender, was back on the lead lap, and during the green flag run, raced all the way around to the end of traffic and worked his way back into the top-10. Hayward and the 25 team decided to stay out as long as possible when the next pit cycle started and it wound up paying off big time. Jerry Richson and Chip Pasteur collided on the back-straight as one attempted to enter the pits and the other attempted to exit the pits. This caution left Hayward in the lead, with only Mike Falls (who had just pit from the lead) on the lead lap with Hayward.

The pit strategy gambles made during the 2nd pit cycle seem odd, but there isn't really another explanation for why the cars would have been running out of gas at the end of the race.... and the bigger head scratcher - why didn't anyone pit during the final caution of the race if those teams and drivers knew they would be close on fuel since they had gambled?

Nathan Salim overcame a lot during this race and probably could have ended up with a top-5 had things gone his way. The Canadian youngster was involved in the race's first caution and then utilized an early pit stop strategy. Unfortunately, Salim passed Chip Pasteur on the inside before crossing the start/finish line while taking the final restart of the race - and had to serve a stop-and-go penalty. Salim was scored in 7th at the time.

Mike Falls, Chip Pasteur, A. J. Hayward, Jonathan Cox, Maxwell Tender, Nathan Smith, Nathan Ormond, Jeff Wilkens, P. J. Endersen, and Steven Wallace, Jr. all had to come in and make late pit stops at the end of the race. Falls, Hayward, Smith, Ormond, Wilkens, and Endersen all pit from top-10 positions.

Frank Azzaretto held on and crossed the start/finish line with his car's dashboard showing no fuel pressure to win the first-ever NOMAD race. It truly is a success story for Azzaretto who had been chasing his first professional win and struggled to find the little sponsorship he has coming into this season.

RROL Competition Director, Founder respond to Cole's Comments
Owen Clarke, the RROL Competition Director who oversees the North-Atlantic Open-Wheel Modified Asphalt Division, was questioned by reporters just prior to the start of the 30-minute open practice session at South Boston Speedway. "Right now our primary goal is the financial health of this division and the organizations competing in it. It is well known the struggles over the past decade to maintain a large-scale asphalt modified tour - and so that is something the members of the Competition Committee agree is an extremely important factor - and we've outlined it as something we're focusing on this year."

"I understand Cris' perspective; however, the season is still young, and I am confident as the season goes on performance in general will improve. The nuances of these Faber Acromions will be better understood and teams will be getting the most out of their engines."

Owen's father Robert, the founder of the RROL, supported his son's response during a phone interview on Scott Bigsby's Nomad Voyager podcast. "Owen handled it well and he makes several good points - things will improve over the course of the season. I spoke to Cris privately and I hope he can be patient, understanding, and perform to the best of his abilities while this division grows."

Skeez Antifreeze Racing Struggle to Start Season

After 2 races in the RROL NOMAD series SkAR drivers Josh Miller and Nathan Salim sit last in points together after rough races. Mechanical woes and wrecks have kept them both at the bottom of the standings and the team looks to have better results in the future. Team owner Devon Kenward had to say "We hope the struggle doesn't last all year, we're a new team and are just trying to figure out these cars and tracks. A little bad luck to start the season is definitely aggravating but we think we can turn it around before the year comes to an end. We've shown speed, but just need things to start going our direction soon."

BREAKING: NOMAD race at Beech Ridge to split into double-header
Scarborough, MA - On the eve of Beech Ridge qualifying, RROL officials have announced that the upcoming Scarborough 100 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway will be split into a double-header. There were 30 entries that will now be split into two 15-car races. Interestingly, RROL officials also decided that the separate double-headers have been cut in half, so instead of the originally planned one 303-lap event, there will be two 152-lap races held on Wednesday.

It is currently unknown how competitors feel about the late change.

Entries will be split for the double-header at random and the event has been renamed the Scarborough 50/50.

Sources behind the scenes have stated an influential factor in this decision is Beech Ridge's small pit road.

Quinnipiac Motorsports Round Up: Olenick Sounds off, De Rosa Struggles

SCARBOROUGH, ME - The RROL NOMAD Series visited the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the Scarborough 50/50, and despite promising efforts in qualifying, both of the Quinnipiac Motorsports cars struggled throughout the day in Race 1. Christine De Rosa struggled with engine problems, and Jessica Olenick struggled in the second half after an incident with Caden Peralta; both drivers spoke out after the race.

"I knew that the engine sounded off when we started pace laps," said De Rosa. "I think we probably pushed it too far in qualifying. I'm kind of surprised the engine even lasted the whole race. It was shaking pretty bad at the end and I thought we were blowing up for sure."

Olenick had some choice words for Caden Peralta and the Peralta Motorsports team after an incident during the first pit cycle.

"Somebody needs to tell that idiot in the 28 car how to pit at a track like this," Olenick stated. "The pits are on the outside, you need to be on the outside lane to safely pit. He just decided to dive bomb from the bottom lane, through me, and dump me into the tires; that completely screwed my suspension up and cost me a great run. His team better teach him how to be less of a wrecking ball out there, he's already owed one from me."

The series' next race will take place at Burlington Raceway in Vermont. Both Quinnipiac Motorsports drivers will be looking to turn around what's been a difficult season so far.

Official Results in race recap video.
Point Standings

Spoiler:

Cole and Brozembek have to be separated by crews following Lake Champlain 100
On lap 42, B. J. Brozembek hooked Cris Cole out of the 8th corner and into the pit road. This came after a scary lap 36 pileup in which multiple cars were involved in a crash involving the end of the pit wall. After the race, Cris Cole attempted to confront B. J. Brozembek; however, things escalated quickly. Amidst angry barking and threatening remarks, the two drivers were separated by their crews.

"[Brozembek] is freaking unbelievable. We are racing outside of the top-20 with more than 20 laps left in the race... and he finds it necessary to wreck me at the pit entrance!?" Cris Cole told a reporter after being pulled away by his pit crew.

When asked what he said to Brozembek, Cole stated "I was going over there to knock some sense into him but I guess I said too much on the radio."

Officials admit possible "mistake" in Endersen's restart penalty
RROL NOMAD officials have released a statement admitting they may have made an error in penalizing P. J. Endersen for making a pass before crossing the start/finish line on lap 20. Endersen passed Jonathan Cox on the right side before the line and the first turn is a left turn, which - per the language of the law -  should be a legal pass since it was to the outside. However, polesitter Mike Falls did begin the race from the right lane at the start, and it seems that is where the confusion lies.

While an RROL representative did release this statement admitting possible fault in this decision, the same statement indicated that there will be no corrective actions taken on behalf of P. J. Endersen's race result. Endersen lost much time with his stop-and-go penalty and wound up losing a lap before the next caution of the race came out. Endersen finished 26th, two laps down. Adding a lap to Endersen's tally would only boost him to a 24th-place finish - and essentially would be the same score for Endersen and the #08 team.

The statement does vow that this ruling error has been taken seriously by RROL NOMAD officials and future events at Burlington Raceway will have a clearer definition of a restart violation.

(OOC: I just visited some family out of town last weekend and wasn't able to get the New Hampshire video out before my trip, but the race has been run and the video should be up this week.)

Round at Beltsville Speedway among rumored 2020 NOMAD changes
With just less than half of the 2019 NOMAD season in the books, it seems only natural for rumors about the 2020 season and possible changes for the series to circulate. Here's the latest:
  • Beltsville Speedway, in Beltsville, MD may be in line for a 2020 NOMAD date. Rumors have RROL officials talking with the track's representatives a round during the first half of the season.
  • South Boston may be dropped from the 2020 schedule in favor of Richmond Raceway.
  • Dover could host the 2020 series finale, with Rockingham moving into the first half of the season.
  • The Lime Rock Park and Burlington rounds will return next season, and it looks as if they will be joined by an additional 2-3 road course rounds. VIR (Virginia International Raceway) has been mentioned here.
  • The series calendar is expected to have 12-14 rounds for 2020.
  • RROL officials are looking at different engine specifications for the 2020 season; increased horsepower is frequently mentioned here, although it may be only the hopes of the drivers.
  • Goodyear has told RROL officials they have no plans to introduce a new tire compound for the 2020 season.

More 2020 NOMAD rumors...

  • RROL officials are looking into amending the leading bonus such that drivers who lead only during a caution do not score a bonus point.
  • Add Martinsville Speedway and Langley Speedway to the list of Virginia tracks vying for a NOMAD date. Supposedly, it is "all but confirmed" the series will not return to South Boston Speedway in 2020. Virginia International Raceway won't host the Nomads in 2020 - the track reportedly "isn't available" during the dates RROL officials wanted.
  • There may be a companion date or two for the Nomads in 2020 - first with the ASCC @ Middle Georgia Motor Speedway. The second being discussed is with the TM Master Cup Series @ Ohio Motor Speedway.
  • A recent rumor is suggesting, rather than the originally expected 12-14 race schedule, the 2020 schedule will have 10 races.

Spoiler:
Olenick going through Concussion Protocol
Jessica Olenick is being mandated to go through the RROL's Concussion Protocol after a violent driver's side impact into the outside wall in turn 3. Olenick's #23CT machine was flung into the outside wall at nearly 100 MPH after Frank Azzaretto got into the right rear of her car. The consensus is that Azzaretto had no malicious intent, but simply misjudged Olenick's use of the brakes going into the corner.

After the big hit, Olenick collided with two other drivers attempting to get to pit road; causing Caden Peralta to hit the end of the pit wall and retire from the race. Olenick and Peralta had some on-track skirmishes earlier this season; however, this does not appear related to those.

The Nomads do have next week off as New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials set up the track's road course layout, so this does give Olenick more time to recover.

Per protocol, Olenick was screened upon her visit to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway medical facility after her race-ending crash - she has reportedly cleared the initial screening. Olenick will undergo an examination by a neurologist this week and will also need to regain medical clearance to race again.

For the first time this season, someone NOT named Frank Azzaretto is leading the NOMAD point standings
That would be Jeff Wilkens, driver of the WilsonTech #44 car, he's been to victory lane twice this season (like Frank Azzaretto). After a 9th-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Wilkens has taken over the points lead by only 1 point. Wilkens' 22 points scored in 6 races means he's averaging 3.67 points per race - a little better than a 3rd-place finish which earns 3 points.

NOMAD Knockout Cup Preview
There's only 1 race left in the qualifying round of the NOMAD Knockout Cup and 6 drivers have locked themselves in. Jeff Wilkens, Frank Azzaretto, Nathan Smith, Steven Wallace, Jr., and Clay Cooper punched their ticket into Round 1 by winning. Chad Birch is also locked in on points - he's earned 9 so far this season; everyone behind him has scored 6 or less. The worst Birch can do in the next race (barring some kind of unforeseen points penalty) is lose 1 point.

A new winner at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Road Course would lock in a 7th driver; however, there will be at least 5 positions up for grabs among those without a win who have the most points.

RROL Point Standing tie-breakers go in order of: Wins, Laps Lead, Average Finish, Trajectory, DNFs, and Laps Run.

NOMADs to race with Tapered Spacers in 2020?

RROL Officials have been having discussions with team owners about the upcoming 2020 season and what changes could help teams. Team owners have reportedly expressed an interest in moving toward a more universal chassis/engine package which would be used at each race this season.

For a competition of its stature, the RROL NOMADs do race at a higher variety of tracks than usual. There are ovals as short as 1/3 of a mile and as long as a mile. Some ovals are highly banked, some are flat, and some are in between. There are 3 different road courses, one with essentially no elevation change, one with significant elevation changes, and a third with both elevation changes and partial use of an oval layout. At New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a 1-mile speedway with low banking, the NOMADs were outfitted with restrictor plates.

For full season use, it appears RROL Officials would prefer a tapered spacer over a restrictor plate - a tapered spacer would allow for greater throttle response than a restrictor plate. This season the NOMADs are racing with engines capable of producing around 500 horsepower. Owners and drivers have been indicating that they want more horsepower next season.

The RROL's Research and Development team have a lot of work to do heading into next season if they are going to pull off such a change. They will reportedly work closely with representatives from Faber, Lenard, Saar, and other engine builders involved in the series to reach the goal of a 2020 engine with a tapered spacer that produces at least 650 HP. As far as the 2020 chassis is concerned, Faber is not expected to make significant changes but will continue to take feedback from teams and drivers through the end of the season with significantly different from the rest of the schedule, Dover and Rockingham ending the year for the NOMADs.

Knockout Cup Field set

The first 7 races are complete and based off of the results and points after these 7 races, the 12-driver NOMAD Knockout Cup field has been set. 2-time winners Frank Azzaretto and Jeff Wilkens are locked in due to their wins along with Chad Birch, Nathan Smith, Steven Wallace, Jr., and Clay Cooper who won 1 race each. The 6 remaining spots were earned by the remaining drivers with the most points. Jonathan Cox has scored 11 points so far (and actually ranks ahead of Clay Cooper in the season-long championship). Freddy Klein has scored 7 points. Herbie Beetle and Joe Hatcher have scored 6 points each. Three drivers have scored 5 points so far this season but there are only two spots remaining in the Knockout Cup. Since none of those three drivers have won a race, the tiebreaker goes to laps lead. B. J. Brozembek has lead 143 laps, Johnathan Douglas has lead 104, and Hiroke Kirana has lead 0; therefore, Brozembek and Douglas make the cut and Kirana does not. Remarkably, Beetle and Hatcher made it into the Knockout Cup on a part-time basis - Hatcher was only scheduled for two races prior to the Knockout Cup. Hiroke Kirana nearly made it on a part-time schedule as well.

Cris Cole Gets 1-Race Suspension; Substitute Yet to Be Named
After his involvement in a scary lap 55 crash for Nathan Salim, RROL Officials have deemed Cris Cole's actions reckless and have suspended him for the upcoming round at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. There is no points penalty to go along with his suspension. Old Dominion Racing South has not yet named a replacement to substitute for Cole, but they are reportedly reaching out to some of the drivers that joined the Nomads during the past two rounds at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Three WilsonTech Cars in the Knockout Cup; Hatcher Entered for Thompson and Ocean State

With multiple seasons of experience in the FARCE/FARC Modified divisions under his belt, James Spangler and his WilsonTech team have quickly established themselves as one of the top teams in the new RROL NOMAD series. Veteran Jeff Wilkens scored back-to-back wins at Beech Ridge and Burlington, finishing the qualifying period tied with Frank Azzaretto for the points lead. The team's newcomer, Chad Birch, has also performed strongly, capping his rookie season by winning on the road course at New Hampshire. His victory was preceded by Joe Hatcher making his return to the team and NOMAD debut with a runner-up finish on the Loudon oval, a strong enough showing to allow all three WilsonTech drivers to qualify for the inaugural Knockout Cup.

After only being scheduled to run the two Loudon races, Spangler confirmed that Hatcher will be entered for at least the first round of the Knockout cup, enabling all three drivers to challenge for the championship. "We were excited to join the new NOMAD series and show why we're one of the best modified teams not only in New England, but in the country. The best part is all three of our drivers are committed to supporting each other and bringing WilsonTech the Cup, one way or another. I'm happy to open up my checkbook a little more to give us a better chance at winning the title."
