Had a Close Call Yesterday.
As the title states, I had quite a scare yesterday. I was watching the race in my room waiting for the final restart when all of the sudden, my dad screams "get the fire extinguisher!" Apparently, when he unplugged the air conditioner in my brother's room, sparks shot out of the socket. When he felt the wall and saw smoke come out of it where the air conditioner was placed, he realized the inside of the wall was on fire. I then sprinted downstairs to the basement to shut off the power upstairs as my dad busts open the wall to extinguish as much as he could. We then called 911 and got my brother and sister out of the house as me and my dad tried to do what we could until the fire dept. got there. When they did, me and my dad then got out of the house and sat in the freezing cold as they tore open more of the wall to put out the rest of the fire. They said if we just waited for them to come and did noting, the whole house would have when up. We think that when he uplugged the air conditioner, something broke. The house is about 50 years old and when we moved in 5 months ago, they said all the electric was up to code. They are going to have a electrition over in the next couple of days. Thankfully, we are insured and everyone's alright.

Now I know that when I eventually buy a house, I shouldn't just take the owner's word for it when he says there are absolutely no problems safety-wise.

Well, the wall torn up form the floor to the ceiling. The owner said the insurance will pay to have the wall fixed.conrail1990 wrote:Thats scary crap man, glad your alright. So how much damage was done physical & $ wise.

Wow, that's scary. Good job shutting off the power, that was quick thinking. Glad you're alright.
Sucks that you missed the restart, though. It was a hell of a finish.

Glad you're alright, good thing it happened when you were all awake and not during the middle of the night, and how it was handled was very well done.
Insurance is a good thing to have, very good to have.
