- JF DeVila Ekes Out a Win at Chicago Twin
Team Canada driver Jean Francois DeVila pulled off an upset of a win today at the Chicago Twin Speedway, beating out defending race winner Justin King and James Beverley for the top spot after the race went into an Overtime Dash. DeVila started in thirty-second place, but quickly worked his way through the field through quick pit work during the race's four long caution periods. Entering the Overtime Dash, DeVila lined up in fourth position, and made quick work of James Beverley and Isaac Parsons before dispatching King in the final turn.
With this win, DeVila moves up to fourteenth in points, tied for thirteenth with Bluto Belushi. Team Canada moves up to sixteenth in team points but still remains in the Relegation Zone, two points behind fifteenth place Tony Long Autosport.
Tauger Racing Unit Notches Best Finish
Treck Tauger brought his #06 G-Vestoil Zastava home in eleventh today, achieving a new best finish for his struggling operation. However, it could have been so much better. Despite locking out the last row, both Treck and Matt Tauger showed an ability to hang with the leaders. Matt Tauger in particular had a stellar run going in the late portions of the race, sitting in the top-five with just a handful of laps to go. Unfortunately for Matt Tauger, the engine in his #60 Phantom Zastava gave up under caution just two laps from the finish and he was relegated to twenty-eighth position. This effort ties the team's best joint performance.
With this effort Tauger Racing Unit still sits last in team points, but is now only forty-six points behind fifteenth place Tony Long Autosport. Treck Tauger sits thirtieth in points, while Matt Tauger remains thirty-sixth.
Mechanical Woes Hamper Burkhart
Sam Burkhart brought his #51 Beyer Sound Systems Zastava home in twenty-second place, in what is his worst finish since Carbondale. Burkhart started fifth place and took the lead early, but got shuffled back during the second green-flag stint. A poor pit stop put him mid-pack, when on lap seventeen his engine developed a coolant leak. The crew would be able to fix the issue, but he would remain off the pace for the rest of the event.
Burkhart remains at the top of the standings, leading Greg Maddox by twenty-four points. Sam Brown Racing sits atop the team standings, one point ahead of Winsalot Motorsports, but the team has not announced if they will defer their promotion at the end of the season.
