2017 Dash Cup Super Stocks Season Chronicles - Part 2 of 5 (Croft, Oulton Park 400km, Bordeaux)
Races 10, 11 and 12 - Dash Cup @ Croft
The last regular weekend before the start of the World Tour was at the shortest road course of the season, in Dalton-on-Tees. Two sprints of 25 laps, plus a 67 lap feature race were contested.
The sprints were full of side by side contact, but mostly uneventful, as Tom Delgado led from start to finish, winning his first Dash Cup points event since 2013, and Emily Brannagan winning her first race pf the year and the first Matthews-Atlantic in the season, after her teammate and race leader Kellan Rogers-Ashby blew up with 5 laps to go, not making into the feature race.
The feature was far more "fun", as 5 cars were swept out in a first lap incident, and other crashes involved many of the championship contenders, which were forced to settle for little or no points at all, as Ben Atkins picked up the pieces in order to take his first win of the year.
Sprint 1 Winner: #37 - Tom Delgado
Sprint 2 Winner: #56 - Emily Brannagan
Feature Winner: #28 - Ben Atkins
Race 13 - The Oulton Park 400km Endurance Race
The first ever endurance race in the history of the Dash Cup Super Stocks Series takes place at the Oulton Park Circuit in Little Budworth. Many teams opted to enter less cars, as both drivers in each vehicle would score points towards the championship standings. The 90 lap event saw many important teams fail to qualify, while underdogs went through, the race was also a test of man and machine, as 4 drivers retired due to fatigue close to the end of the event, and many cars were done by mechanical failures, with only 15 of the 40 starters finishing the event.
When the dust settled, Ben Atkins had achieved the victory, after his relief driver Caitlin Richler took the lead of the race from an unsuspecting Franco Giovanardi.
Race Winners: #28 - Ben Atkins and Caitlin Richler
Races 14, 15 and 16 - Dash Cup in France
The Circuit Thierry Sicotte at Bordeaux saw the return of Europe's top flight of Stock Car Racing.
Sprint 1 was dominated by Harriet Wallace, while Sprint 2 was a 1-2-3 for Matthews Atlantic leading the way, as Kellan Rogers-Ashby brought home her first win of the year, putting an end to a rocky start of a season, although she would blow up in the opening lap of the Feature race, as Mikhail Jakobsen took his second win of the season. The Super Rookie now consolidated his Championship lead following a 4th place at Oulton Park with the win.
Sprint 1 Winner: #08 - Harriet Wallace
Sprint 2 Winner: #90 - Kellan Rogers-Ashby
Feature Winner: #72 - Mikhail Jakobsen
