2017 Mexican GP

The penultimate penultimate race of 2017 takes us across the US border to Mexico for the 18th round. Mercedes clinched the constructors championship last week and Lewis Hamilton looks poised to take his 4th drivers title. Before we get to what could be the inevitable, let's get to some headlines.

3 is the Magic Number

For Lewis Hamilton, his 4th drivers title is within reach. To get to the point, if he wins the Mexico GP, he would need Sebastian Vettel to finish 3rd or worse. Vettel finished 2nd in the USGP but finishing behind the man he needs to beat for the drivers title is not going to help. Vettel will need all miracles to have a chance to catch Lewis. I hate to say this but, good championship Lewis, I am not expecting you to pull a 2007 again.

Sainz Puts on a Show

For anyone going to a new team, it can be a very rough transition. However, for the newest Renault driver Carlos Sainz, his transition in to his new ride could not have gone any better as he scored 6 points for the French factory team lifting them ahead of Haas for 7th in the constructors title. Carlos became the first driver since Giancarlo Fisichella to score points on debut with Renault. Lets hope that this is a positive sign for the future for Renault in their possible move to the front of the field.

The Toro Rosso Merry-Go-Round

Yet again, the drivers lineup at Toro Rosso is changing. Brendon Hartley will keep his seat for Mexico and he will be joined by Pierre Gasly. Gasly is coming off having his Super Formula championship bid taken away from him due to weather. Pierre will be on a rampage after not having the chance to take home a trophy. Brendon Hartley is coming off his first F1 race where he finished 13th.
