Touring Car Thread
To stop us from using the RDT thread to talk about BTCC and stuff like that, I decided to make a general touring car thread that we can use when BTCC/WTCC/DTM etc is on and we want to talk about it. So I'll start...
Sam Tordoff just took his first win in the BTCC series at Snetteron in a 1-2 finish for MG, so I'm super happy. Gonna miss race 2 and 3 though since I'm going out, which kinda sucks but it's whatever

Re: Touring Car Thread
Seeing as it's related, Dan Cammish continues to make the opposition look silly in the FFord. 16 wins, 18 poles, 12 fastest laps and a 150 point lead all from just 16 races (plus two more races later today). Proves how irrelevant FFord has become...

I wish Turkington didn't get turned by Shedden, but never the less a sensational race!!! Can't wait for Knockhill next.

Re: Touring Car Thread
Damn, I missed all the action at today's BTCC. I went to see the Classic Touring Car Racing Club's festival at what will probably be Mallory Park's last car event. It was a brilliant to watch Neil Bray's standard MK1 Fiesta beating the Rover Vitesse's in the wet and even getting second in a race against Sierra Cosworth's and BMW M3's. I'll post a video of the highlights soon, I believe it was shown live on Motors TV today though.

Penalties after Snetterton which I don't completely agree with, from the BTCC website:
-Andrew Jordan received two penalty points for an incident relating to driving standards in race two.
-Gordon Shedden received three penalty points and a £500 fine for an incident relating to driving standards in race three.

I'm assuming this is to do with the contact with Turkington, which is utter bull. Much as I like Colin, the head-on shot clearly showed him coming across on Jordan.
Anyway, who's ready for a good laugh?

Yes it was. Now this puts Andrew Jordan on 5 penalty points, which is something I hate to see because he is quite a clean driver. He had 3 penalty points added already from Race 3 at Oulton Park, in which ironically he won as well. I think the officials just don't like seeing him win when it really is just called 'rubbins racin', because thats what the BTCC is supposed to be all about.

Re: Touring Car Thread
That was probably a defining moment in my opinion of Plato. If your car is not quick enough, invest in a damn turbo. Instead he (one driver) cried about it which got the rules changed. Does he forget his years at Seat where the TDI was a clear advantage on the straights? He even complained about the Fords which were running a fuel that was helping the environment and subsequently got them restricted to the point where they were no longer worth using. He is a good driver but his attitude is unbearable.BWardboy88 wrote:Nope, Plato has done that too. Check this outBen Atkins wrote:Matt Neal is worse. Re: Touring Car Thread
I usually get sick of his driving and his attitude combined, one example of why I hate the way he drives was when he blatantly spun out Tom Chilton on the straight at Silverstone in 2005 to win the race, and then got thankfully stripped of his victory.Metro 6r4 wrote:That was probably a defining moment in my opinion of Plato. Re: Touring Car Thread
Neal and Plato are both annoying twits. Neal's a nitwit who'll sacrifice common sense for a win (see: finish at Oulton Park two years ago when a Honda 1-2 ended up being a Honda gravel trap special), and Plato whines about everything, such as the confrontation with Neal at Rockingham two years ago, when Plato whined that Neal committed "battery" by putting his hands on him. I would love to be wrecked by Plato, because I would relish punching him in the face afterward, just to hear his whining to ITV.

Re: Touring Car Thread
The same applies for Matt Neal. There was so many Honda fans at Oulton Park who would cheer whenever an MG got passed. When Tordoff had a problem in race 2, the Honda fans were STILL cheering for every car that passed him. I found it funny, even though I'm a diehard MG fan.RetrogradeRenegade wrote:Like him or not, he wins races. A lot of them. I agree Plato can be a tool, and is aggressive, but he is a good driver. I like him because of his (oh lord) driving style in recent years. I think he's calmed down lately and stopped whining as much. Point in case, his interview at Snetterton after he rolled his car. He was still making jokes instead of calling out anyone for the check up, while Matt Neal was QQing over his radio even though he still scored points in the race. However, I'm a bigger fan of Tordoff than Plato so...

Re: Touring Car Thread
I haven't watched BTCC since 2010, when Triple 8 Vauxhall thought it would be a good idea to replace Fabrizio with James Nash and Phil Glew...
Out of interest, does any one else watch the WTCC? I've always preferred it to the BTCC (don't hurt me) as the Eurosport broadcasts are generally more enjoyable to watch, and the support races were also quite interesting (only Auto GP now ). Anyway, after BMW, SEAT and Chevrolet ended their works programmes in the WTCC, leaving Honda and Thomo in the sorry Lada to make up the remaining works teams, Citroen will bring that number to 3 with this:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/109203
And with Muller and Loeb piloting it...

Actually, their original sponsor to begin the Season UNIQ pulled out after the first meeting at Thruxton, so Giovonardi couldn't be retained by the team.Milan655 wrote:I haven't watched BTCC since 2010, when Triple 8 Vauxhall thought it would be a good idea to replace Fabrizio with James Nash and Phil Glew...
Re: Touring Car Thread
Yes I know. Glew took Fabrizio's original race seat, then after UNIQ pulled out Nash had sponsorship and was inexpensive.BWardboy88 wrote:Actually, their original sponsor to begin the Season UNIQ pulled out after the first meeting at Thruxton, so Giovonardi couldn't be retained by the team.Milan655 wrote:I haven't watched BTCC since 2010, when Triple 8 Vauxhall thought it would be a good idea to replace Fabrizio with James Nash and Phil Glew...

Re: Touring Car Thread
To be fair I found it kind of irritating that Phil Glew was never given more drive's in a BTCC car because he dominated the Clio Cup and managed to get his car smothered in sponsorship sticker's. I actually met him along with Andrew and Mike Jordan at a testing event and he seemed like a really nice guy, I have no idea what he does now. The last I heard was that he was racing for Roger Clark's son in Time Attack events. I never really paid much attention to the WTCC but I did follow the season where Tarquini took the title (not sure what year it was). I will definitely watch it when Loeb gives it a go, as he seems to be brilliant on tarmac no matter what.Milan655 wrote:I haven't watched BTCC since 2010, when Triple 8 Vauxhall thought it would be a good idea to replace Fabrizio with James Nash and Phil Glew...

Autosport has done a feature on one of the greatest periods of touring cars (in my opinion the most important); SuperTouring. Available online for purchase at £2.99, featuring:
*What went wrong
*Top 25 SuperTouring drivers
*TOCA video game series
...among others.
EDIT: It appears the some of the features I mentioned are only available for subscribers on the Autosport website

More news from the British Touring Car Championship. A new record will be set on Sunday, as Scottish driver Aiden Moffat aged 16 will become the youngest ever driver to compete in an outright BTCC Race at Knockhill this weekend.

Re: Touring Car Thread
Rob Austin claims pole for Race 1 at Knockhill in the BTCC. The difference between Qualifiers 1 to 19 were seperated by just 0.833 seconds. Coling Turkington is 2nd, while Andrew Jordan got 3rd, but he has that six place grid penalty implied to him from Snetterton so he is relegated to 9th for the first race.

He was racing Fiesta Junior's last year. He also had a very close battle for second with another driver at Donington and he wasn't afraid to bump people out of the way so he'll do well in the BTCC.Milan655 wrote:Moffat sounds familiar, but am I thinking of a V8 Supercars driver?BWardboy88 wrote:More news from the British Touring Car Championship.
