2017 Chinese GP
Formula 1 makes its return to Shanghai to contest the Chinese GP. China is home to the longest straight in F1. Let's get to some headlines.
Wait... Ferrari Won?
Yes, your eyes were and still not deceiving you. Ferrari won the season opener in Australia by not blowing their pit strategy like they did last year. This win for Ferrari was their first since Singapore 2015. What made Ferrari's win more surprising was the fact that there was no dirty tricks played. While 1 race is never enough to determine anything, this is definitely a positive note for 2017.
Nico Hulkenburg: "Extremely Hard to Overtake"
Nico Hulkenburg's debut race for Renault was pretty good. He finished 11th, 1 spot away from a points paying finish. After the race, however, he was not exactly the happiest guy in the world. Nico complained of a severe lack of overtaking in the race. This may, or may not be true but it is kind of hard to believe a guy after 1 race.
Pretty in Pink
Sahara Force India's pink paint scheme has obviously not damaged their competitiveness. A 7th place effort for Perez and a 10th place effort by Ocon showed that the livery does not matter if you are grabbing points, right Hulkenburg? Oh yeah, that is right, you left Force India because you couldn't beat Sergio even with all of that hype.
Got Puke? (In the Engine)
One of the major storylines during the race was reliability. 7 drivers had to retire from the race due to some sort of mechanical issue. Both Haas cars, Jolyon Palmer, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Daniel Riccardo, and 1 other, whose name has slipped my mind, all retired from the race. While it was still race 1, this is not a good sign for everyone.

It's easy if you watched the race and saw cars catching each other at over a second a lap faster and not even be able to attack due to the turbulence from the aero upsetting the balance.

Yeah, kind of odd to attack Hulkenberg for not being able to pass when Hamilton couldn't pass Verstappen and Bottas couldn't pass Hamilton. It's not a good sign.

It was known that these cars would be quicker but passing would be near impossible. Don't expect a high overtake rate this season. If they do happen though, most will be works of art.

I agree that the cars are going to be a pain to overtake. I was not necessarily attacking Hulkenburg about the passing, I was just quoting him.

Yeah I got confused because you talked about him in another section of your post about him being beat by Perez. My apologies.

Re: 2017 Chinese GP
Time for the questionnaire. Same as Australia, there are 5 questions about the Chinese GP. Here we go,
1. The first Chinese GP was held in 2004. Who won the race and what team did he drive for?
2. Michael Schumacher's final win came in China 2006. Where did he start in the race?
3. 2010 saw one of the odder moments in Formula 1 history. During FP1, this driver lost both of his front wheels while on track.
4. Before this year, what did Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso have in common in China?
5. In 2005, what team clinched the Constructors Championship in China?

Those 3 are correct, questions 3 and 4 are still up for answers

In a slightly unrelated note, this year's Malaysian Grand Prix will be the last race at Malaysia.

Re: 2017 Chinese GP
FP1 and FP2 were both heavily affected by weather. FP2 didn't happen, while only a combined 124 laps between 14 drivers occurred in FP1.

Lewis Hamilton wins the pole for Shanghai. Jolyon Palmer and Romain Grosjean will start on the final row after grid penalties in qualifying. Antonio Giovinazzi also crashed in Q1

Re: 2017 Chinese GP
- Winners of the Chinese GP:
Red Bull: Both cars competitive all day, podium and 4th to finish
Max Verstappen: 16th to 3rd is very impressive for the future of F1
Carlos Sainz: Talk about punching above his weight, very impressive run for finishing 7th
Kevin Magnusson: First points for Haas, first points for Kevin at Haas
Sahara Force India: The "slowest midfield car" is still scoring points
- Losers of the Chinese GP:
Bottas' Strategist: Apparently he forgot Nico Rosberg retired by calling him Nico
Valterri Bottas: Pretty impressive to spin under the safety car
Williams: Obviously Stroll's money isn't going towards finishing and consistency
McLaren: You guys already know why they are here
Antonio Giovinazzi: That was a huge step down from Australia

- Spoiler:
- Didn't watch (because I can't be bothered to wake up at 3 AM), but judging by those last few posts, I can infer that Hammy won, Lance Stroll crashed, and McLaren blew up. How typical.

Though, I'm convinced that Lance Stroll's crash wasn't entirely his fault.

Re: 2017 Chinese GP
- Spoiler:
- Stroll was starting do drift and somehow didn't realize that fucking Perez was behind him, he could've slowed down lose the position to Perez and catch him later.
Verstappen is the L I T kid, even though I don't like him that much.
Giovanazzi didn't realize he was wheelspinning and absolutely murdered the Sauber, so RIP Sauber. At the same time Ericsson was also stooging it up in front of him.
Race was not bad, albeit the start did set up much of the changes we'd have through the event.

Re: 2017 Chinese GP
Ok race. Mercedes back on the top step but i think Vettel's goof on the start and strats falling Mercedes way really gave them a boost this time, the Vettel v Hamilton storyline might be real imo.
