What would they name it? The U.S. East Grand Prix and the U.S. West Grand Prix?

No, I think it's a street race with Manhattan as a backdrop. I thought the same thing, too.

This is only an attempt to kill off the Baltimore IndyCar race.

On the organizers (in NJ) part. F1 couldn't give two "feces" about some open wheel race in some port city on the Chesapeake. Someone looking to bring a much more prestigious series with one of the worlds most famous cities as a backdrop as a selling point does.

Formula 1's Jersey Shore, I couldn't think of a worse place to have a Formula 1 race in America. This race will last at most 2 seasons, they'll keep trying though. The only place I could think of that could hold a street race would be Chicago actually. Watkins Glen is too far from any major city for Formula 1. The attendence will be junk in Jersey.

If F1 were to ever do this, I am not saying I wouldn't do this (I would in a heartbeat), but I would much rather have ISC invest in some F1 style pit paddocks, and get F1 back where it belongs, at Watkins Glen.

And it being far from a major city, under that argument, Nurburgring, Spa, and a few others that dont immediately come to mind shouldn't be on the schedule either.

Re: A second US GP in 2013? On the Joysey Side?

Post by Mystrsyko on Tue Oct 25, 2011 10:40 am

i can't see this working at all. they didnt want a nascar track built in the area, so i cant see them being too eager to close down the roads in one of the busiest areas of the country for weeks for formula 1. this is tailor made to be a complete farcical nightmare. i always assumed that f1 and ecclestone hated the US, and setting up this disaster-waiting-to-happen only reinforces that assumption

heck, i still have doubts about the austin race actually taking place. maybe if that race gets off to a good start and has a few good races under its belt you could expand to the east coast, but i can't see simultaneous projects working out, especially considering the history of f1 races in the past

then again, maybe i just hate that everybody seems to forget that the US actually has anything between coasts (about 2500 miles of anything)

Several people might disagree with you there. 2500 miles of flat wheat fields is closer to it. I'm not completely positive that Wyoming even exists.

Actually,I've just checked out what I do believe to be the "proposed track map" for Jersey GP,and it is quite nice, actually.I don't know whether it is anticlockwise or clockwise, that's the only problem.

The circuit is 3.1 miles long, starts down River road, has a small chicane on the main straight and, assuming it is clockwise, would take a left(in order to see the New York skyline,I suppose)then a two right turns followed by another to go on JFK Blvd East. Then,it will take a right at Anthony Delfino Way and then a tight hirpin back across the line.

Have a look for yourself.

New Jersey track plan.

LOL F1.

Just call the Austin race "Grand Prix of Texas" and the NJ race "New Jersey Grand Prix." Not that hard, Bernie.

It reminds me of the whole "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" situation. Also, why "Grand Prix of America", when it could (or should, rather) be "Grand Prix of the United States"?

Funny you guys keep making Jersey SHore refferences because if I recall correctly, the governemnt has cut off funds for another season. Hopefully if they are serious, they won't make Snooki the Grand Marshal.

As for this race itself, I want to have faith it'll work but I can't. The race in Austin Texas is far more believeable then this (though it helps that two other major overseas series are coming over as well.

Fun Fact: Last Time F1 raced in Texas was in 1984 with the Grand Prix Of Dallas (the same race where one driver tried to push his car across the line and passed out).

I'm not so certain I'd like a circuit destroyed just so F1 can race there.

Last I checked, it has pretty much been the same circuit since they added the boot on it in the 70's, all you need is f1 garages

I think he means, Bernie would want Herman Tilke redesign it to his liking. Look at Hockenheim and the A1Ring

The problem at the Glen wouldn't be track design, but the relatively small run-off areas. It would take too much money for the circuit owners to get the track up to scratch for Formula 1.

They had the brilliant idea to put that race in the summer. The pavement cracked, it was the hottest F1 race ever, and only 7 cars finished due to the proximity of the walls. The driver who passed out pushing his car was Nigel Mansell.
