2016 Japanese GP

Post by The_Wall_91 on Mon Oct 03, 2016 6:56 pm

The 17th round of the F1 season takes us to Suzuka in Japan. There are now only 5 races left and the championship is still up in the air. Here are some headlines entering Japan.

The Force Inside Sergio

A few hours after the conclusion, it was announced on the official F1 website that Sergio Perez will stay with Sahara Force India for the 2017 season. At this time, we have no word on his teammate Nico Hulkenburg as to whether or not he will stay.

What the hell Happened on Sunday?

The Malaysian GP was... interesting to say the least. Sebastian Vettel did his best Daniil Kvyat in China impression, Lewis Hamilton had an engine failure, and Red Bull finished 1-2 for the first time since 2014. However, Red Bull were not the only heroes in Malaysia.

Palmer and Ericsson Become Heroes

2 drivers in back marker teams became heroes of the Malaysian GP. Those 2 being Sauber's Marcus Ericsson and Renault's Jolyon Palmer. These 2 have had their drives on the line for a long time but putting on a heroic performance will definitely help.

Silly Season is MIA

The silly season for the 2017 season has gone missing in action. Most rides are already confirmed for next season with the exceptions of Force India, Renault, Sauber, Haas, and Manor. In my personal opinion, this is how I see what these teams could do.

Force India should keep their lineup unless Wehrlein becomes available.
Renault should get rid of Palmer and keep Magnusson.
Sauber should hold on to Nasr but that seems unlikely when the new owners of Sauber are linked to Ericsson.
Haas should keep Grosjean and Gutierrez even though Esteban's season has been brutal.
Manor needs to keep their lineup.

Weather possible for this race as a typhoon will be passing mid-late end of the week. We'll see if it's that way come race time.

Both Haas cars made Q3 qualifying a very respectable 8th and 10th

Guess this says how notable it was. Hamilton sucks off the start yet again, a little bit of controversy, but the main news is that Rosberg continues to take control.

In all fairness, it wasn't a bad race. Verstappen drove brilliantly to hold off a recovering Hamilton, Perez briefly ran 3rd, there were battles all throughout the field, and backmarkers apparently forgot what blue flags meant.
