Re: NASCAR at Darlington
It...
is...
BACK!!!
I would watch the race for no other reason than to see this car! (Yes, the #32 car ran this scheme last year, but not with Tide on board!)
And it obviously won't be the only classic livery to return.
I've been looking forward to this race all year, for the great racing as much as the throwback paint schemes! I can't wait!

- Here are a few others:
- We also have another Mark Martin Valvoline tribute for Trevor Bayne this year!
The Hooter's scheme made famous by Alan Kulwicki returns (for both Greg Biffle and Regan Smith)!
Last year's winner Carl Edwards wasn't running a throwback scheme at the time, but he gets one this year in the form of a tribute to Tony Stewart in his final year of full-time NASCAR competition as a driver from Joe Gibbs Racing!
Kurt Busch's car pays tribute to a vertical machining center produced by Haas in 1988 called the VF-1 (although at first I thought that the car was advertising Haas F1 Team )!

Its a shame such a good paint job on the 6 is for a mediocre driver.

Re: NASCAR at Darlington
Bayne hasn't done much in the #6 car but to be honest I think that he still has some potential that hasn't been fully developed yet. He has been driving a Roush car, which has definitely been part of the reason (seeing as he finished 29th in points last year when Roush's program was much worse, and is currently 17th). I don't know if he will ever develop into a championship threat but, for example, Joey Logano drove with JGR for four years and never finished better than 16th in the standings. This is only his second full-time season.Memoriesallbutdone wrote:Its a shame such a good paint job on the 6 is for a mediocre driver.

The #1 car for this year's race wins the prize for my favorite throwback scheme. Somehow I never appreciated that Mac Tonight car until I saw it on the Gen6.

We can scratch one of the party-poopers from the Cup list!

I've never actually seen that car before. Looks like 1976 Daytona 500?

I believe so. It's definitely 1976 vintage.

Re: NASCAR at Darlington
The #98 acquired a throwback scheme. It's a LeeRoy Yarborough car.
To be fair, Premium Motorsports is probably too poor to afford automotive paint for two cars let alone one, and if Twisted Tea is insistent on running the same scheme they've been running all season on the #44 car, then they'll just look very out of place. At any rate, I like how we're essentially peer-pressuring everyone into running a throwback scheme.

Re: NASCAR at Darlington
I was wondering what car they could actually throw back to with that number. LeeRoy was a talented driver but an absolute psychopath, eerily similar to a certain "Rabid Wolverine".

Due to the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Harambe Hermine, NASCAR pre-emptively cancelled both Cup and Xfinity qualifying scheduled for tomorrow. Both fields will be set by the rule book.

In major news, Dale Junior will be missing the rest of the season.
Gordon will run Darlington, Richmond, Dover and Martinsville. Bowman the rest.

Re: NASCAR at Darlington
He honestly just needs to retire at this point. This is seeming pretty severe now.

Re: NASCAR at Darlington
I honestly see the stuff about Dale Jr.'s head injury, and the first thing that pops to mind is Ricky Craven. Granted, Ricky Craven in the 90's was a young up and coming driver with loads of potential, and Dale Jr. today is a veteran with loads of experience, but after the Talladega crash in 1996, among a few other crashes, Craven's career nearly got derailed because of head injuries. Dale Jr. is in his 40's and having problems with concussions. In this day and age where head injuries are taken much more seriously than even Ricky Craven's time, I can't see Dale Jr. running another race. I see retirement happening, but with the Tony Stewart retirement show happening, Jr. (with maybe some convincing from NASCAR) is being told to hold off on the retirement talk until after the season is done, so Tony Stewart can have the retirement limelight.

^This^ is all I can say.
Re: NASCAR at Darlington
Always feels like a cop-out when Sadler wins to me. On one hand - hey, Xfinity regular winning, that's cool. On the other - why does it have to be him and not Jones or Suarez or Bubba Wallace, or, you know, a driver that stands half a chance of moving up to Cup?

This race has been crap to start with and Bayne caused a monkey wrench to get thrown into it...
EDIT: I will say at least Bayne isn't as bad as Brian Scott

Re: NASCAR at Darlington
Not really a bad start of a race, it has been how Darlington races used to be way back in the day. Bayne spinning did give this race a bit of extra fun.
I think the Mears/Scott incident was just hard racing, one pushed up alittle bit, the other pushed down a little bit.

Once again a non-throwback wins, but it's Truex so I can't be mad.
Nice to see he got more than one win a season

Felt that race was a tad weak. Good win to Truex though.
